The One King

Chapter 71: The Dragon's Wrath

The clashes between Azrael and Jonathan continued at an incredible speed, until the sky above the tournament arena became a stage for dozens of collisions every moment.

Jonathan was fighting with everything he had, his sword releasing tremendous golden auras with every strike.

He shouted:

“Celestial Sword Art — Roaring Blade!”

Dozens of golden blades shot toward Azrael from every direction.

Azrael swung his axe.

“Supreme Axe Arts — Absolute Severance!”

BOOOOM!

The blades shattered all at once.

But Jonathan appeared above him in the next instant and brought his sword down with all his strength.

“Sky Dome Sword!”

Azrael blocked the strike with his axe.

DOOOOM!

The sky trembled.

The two retreated from each other, but Jonathan did not stop.

“Celestial Sword Array!”

Dozens of golden swords appeared in the sky before shooting toward Azrael like a storm.

A cold smile spread across Azrael’s face.

He spread his draconic wings and vanished.

He appeared behind Jonathan.

“Sky-Splitting Axe!”

The blade of the axe tore through space itself.

Jonathan turned rapidly and raised his sword to block the strike.

KRAAASH!

The space between them exploded.

But Azrael appeared from another direction once again.

“Void Severance!”

A purple blade of energy shot forward, piercing through space at terrifying speed.

Jonathan managed to evade the attack, but it tore through part of his armor.

Blood began to appear across his body.

As the battle continued, the difference between them became increasingly apparent.

Jonathan possessed tremendous strength and battle experience, but he was gradually losing control of the battle.

Azrael, meanwhile, became more ferocious with every passing moment.

DOOOOM!

The axe struck Jonathan’s shoulder.

BOOOOM!

A second blow tore across his side.

Then a third strike forced him backward, leaving several deep wounds across his body as blood poured from them.

One spectator said in a trembling voice:

“Jonathan is retreating!”

Another replied:

“The difference in their realms isn't that great, but Azrael... is superior in combat.”

Azrael then raised his axe.

Purple light began gathering around the blade.

“Greats-Slaying Axe.”

Jonathan’s expression changed.

But before the attack could descend—

BOOOOM!

A tremendous aura erupted in the sky.

Andor, the Master of the Heavenly Council, appeared with the power of the eighth level of Divine Ascension.

At the same time, Caesar, the Supreme Guardian of the Races Protection Association, appeared with the power of the seventh level.

The two charged toward Azrael.

Azrael was forced to change the direction of his attack before blocking Andor’s strike with his axe.

DOOOOM!

In the next instant, Caesar’s sword collided with his wing.

Azrael was forced several meters backward through the air.

The spectators were stunned.

“Andor has entered the battle!”

“The eighth level of Divine Ascension!”

“And Caesar too!”

One elder said with a pale face:

“Three Divine Ascenders against Azrael...”

He then looked toward the sky.

“This is no longer a battle.”

A man beside him replied:

“It’s a catastrophe.”

The battle intensified.

Azrael against Jonathan, Andor, and Caesar.

BOOOOOOM!

The sky trembled.

DOOOOM!

A shockwave spread across the continent.

KRAAAACK!

The earth split across vast distances.

Earthquakes began striking the Central Continent.

Cities and villages shook violently, enormous cracks opened in the ground, and portions of mountains began collapsing.

Meanwhile, in the seas surrounding the continent, waves rose to terrifying heights.

Storms and hurricanes formed above the waters, their waves violently crashing against the shores.

The Heavenly Energy used by Divine Ascenders, although it was not true divinity, was derived from Divine Energy.

Therefore, the collision of their attacks did not merely destroy things on the surface.

Their power was striking the very foundations of the continent itself.

In one of the cities of the Central Continent, terrified inhabitants poured into the streets.

A man shouted while struggling to remain standing:

“What is happening?!”

A woman screamed:

“The ground is moving!”

An old man raised his head toward the turbulent sky.

“This isn't a natural disaster...”

A young man asked:

“Then what is it?”

The old man answered in a trembling voice:

“A battle between the great ones.”

Silence fell.

Then someone else asked:

“The great ones?”

The old man pointed toward the sky.

“If this truly is because of them... only the gods know how this continent will end.”

One resident shouted:

“Perhaps the gods are angry with us!”

Another replied:

“You really think the gods are trying to destroy the world?!”

Then a tremendous explosion erupted on the horizon.

BOOOOOOM!

The buildings shook.

The man screamed:

“After seeing this? Yes!”

Far from the center of the battle, Lunaria had realized that remaining on the ground had become too dangerous.

She surrounded her family with her energy before lifting them into the sky and flying them farther away from the battlefield.

“We need to get farther away.”

Alex looked behind him.

The ground beneath them was splitting apart, rising and sinking with every seismic wave.

“This is insane...” he said in a trembling voice.

Selina stared toward the sky.

She could see cracks beginning to appear in space with every collision between Azrael and his opponents.

“Even space is cracking.”

Miranda watched the scene with a pale face.

“Four Divine Ascenders...”

She swallowed nervously.

“I never imagined witnessing a battle between them would be this terrifying.”

Valier looked down at the ground below.

“If they continue, this region won't remain the same.”

As for Lilian...

She stared toward the sky with deep concern.

But her fear intensified when she saw Andor and Caesar join Jonathan.

Three against Azrael.

Her heart tightened.

She knew that Azrael was an overwhelmingly powerful existence, but she could not stop one thought from entering her mind.

What if he dies?

Her eyes trembled.

She wasn't ready for that.

Not now.

Not before she confessed the truth to him.

And not before she asked for his forgiveness.

Selina noticed the pallor of her face.

“Lady Lilian, are you alright?”

Lilian quickly shook her head.

“I’m fine.”

But her voice was far from convincing.

Above them...

The battle continued.

A strike from Andor.

Azrael blocked it.

An attack from Caesar.

Azrael evaded it.

Then Jonathan charged forward once again with his sword.

DOOOOM!

Another shockwave exploded.

The battle was becoming a catastrophe that no one could stop.

Then...

Suddenly...

Silence fell for a moment.

The sounds in the sky ceased.

Then an enormous roar resounded.

GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

The roar swept across the entire continent.

Everyone froze.

Lunaria and her family turned toward the source of the sound.

Even people in distant cities raised their heads toward the sky.

Someone asked:

“What was that sound?”

No one answered.

Then something appeared amid the storms.

Something enormous and black.

Everyone’s eyes widened.

Emerging from the clouds...

A majestic black dragon.

It stood nearly two hundred meters tall.

Its body stretched approximately three hundred meters in length.

Its black scales reflected the purple light spreading throughout the sky.

Its enormous wings stretched across a vast expanse, and every beat of them created a violent storm in the air.

Selina froze.

“It’s...”

She couldn't finish the sentence.

Alex whispered:

“A dragon?”

As for Lilian, she immediately knew who it was.

Her eyes remained fixed upon him.

“Azrael...”

The black dragon soared above the continent with overwhelming majesty.

Then it opened its mouth.

A tremendous amount of black and purple energy began gathering within it.

The clouds around it retreated.

Even the storms seemed to bow before him.

Valier whispered:

“What kind of power is that...?”

Lunaria tightened her energy as she watched the scene.

Selina couldn't tear her eyes away from him.

Then...

Azrael released an enormous breath of black-purple flames.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

A colossal sea of flames surged across the sky, devouring everything in its path.

The continent trembled.

And the storms themselves retreated before the dragonfire.

A resident of the continent watching the spectacle from afar said:

“This isn't the wrath of a human...”

Then he trembled.

“This... is the wrath of a dragon.”
