Clearly, Chen Jingyi was being rude to Gu Yi, yet after she spoke, Gu Yi turned around and made a move on Tang Rao.
Time and again, all Tang Rao was doing was drinking, so why did he have to be the victim every time you two had relationship issues?
"Bro, you're going too far!"
Tang Rao grabbed Gu Yi's hand and, with a flick of his wrist, twisted it downward. Gu Yi couldn't help but follow the direction of the pain caused by Tang Rao.
No kidding, if he really twisted in the opposite direction to go against Tang Rao, he might as well give up on having a hand.
"The lady spoke out because she's reached her limit. You shouldn't have made her so upset and annoyed in the first place. Since someone called you out, you should have the consciousness to change. Instead of changing, you repeatedly stirred everyone's anger. Even if you got beaten up and your hand twisted off, you deserved it!"
From the moment Tang Rao made his move until now, Chen Jingyi's gaze was fixed on him as if he were an old friend she had known for years.
Only Chen Jingyi knew the truth—they had just met today.
The fingers are intimately connected to the heart, and elbows aren't much better off. Tang Rao's ruthless move was so harsh it even seemed a bit cruel to himself.
But so what, wicked people are dealt with by fate, and Tang Rao's actions could be considered charitable.
"Do you know where this is? Dare to lay hands on me, you'll regret it, you definitely will!"
Gu Yi's words would have been better unsaid, as the more he talked, the itchier Tang Rao's hand got!
"If I hit you, I'll regret it? Not hitting you is what I'd regret!"
Well, it would have been better if Gu Yi hadn't spoken; once he opened his mouth, he got beaten up even worse than before.
Under Tang Rao's hand, he had no way to defend himself and was utterly defeated, quite miserably at that.
"Miss, this man's not that strong. It's not easy for you to put up with him for so long. Seeing how considerate I am towards you, how about I treat you to a meal? You wouldn't refuse me, right?"
Gu Yi lay on the ground, looking not much different from a dog. It would be one thing if he just fainted, but the key point was there was no one to help him up, and Tang Rao stepped on him twice—once on his face, the second on his groin.
When stepping on his face, Gu Yi was unconscious. When stepping on his groin, the pain woke Gu Yi up and then knocked him back into unconsciousness.
"That was quite off-putting just now, now I'm a bit hungry."
Chen Jingyi didn't say whether she would eat with Tang Rao. She changed it to a more tactful way of speaking, and Tang Rao quickly caught on to what she meant.
"Then let's change tables. I don't think the feng shui here is good. That side looks nice, backlit and ventilated, a spot perfectly tailored for us."
There were quite a few backlit and ventilated spots, but Tang Rao insisted on finding the one farthest away from here. It's not that he genuinely liked the spot; the only advantage was its distance from Gu Yi's location. Unable to see anything unpleasant, his appetite would be much better while eating.
With everything arranged by Tang Rao, Chen Jingyi was quite easygoing with most things, as long as they didn't cross her bottom line. She was still quite agreeable to go along with the crowd.
"Do you know me?"
It was difficult for Chen Jingyi to take an interest in a stranger, but Tang Rao was one of those few exceptions.
"Not really, but I know your dad, and we get along pretty well. And, you know, our relationship is a bit special. If I told you, you probably wouldn't believe it."
If I told you, you probably wouldn't believe it, but in fact, I've already considered your dad my father-in-law; you just don't know it yet.
Tang Rao only dared to say that to himself, leaving an opening in his words because the woman in front of him was going to be his. From the start, Tang Rao had been meticulously attentive to his words and actions, fearing that a single misstep could make Chen Jingyi hate him forever and never marry him.
"I believe you!"
From the start, Tang Rao had been extremely genuine. If a man like this were to lie, then Chen Jingyi wouldn't know what to say.
"You have no reason to lie to me."
Chen Jingyi added, feeling that if she didn't say a couple of extra words, Tang Rao might start having wild thoughts.
"I made a bet with your dad to see if you and that guy just now are truly in love. To prove my thoughts correct, didn't I come to find you right away?"
In order to prove a point, Tang Rao willingly traveled to East Island to investigate. Such dedication deserves admiration from all.
"Did my dad tell you that we're truly a match made in heaven, and that you have no chance of breaking us up?"
Everything Chen Jingtian had said was right out of Chen Jingyi's mouth. No one knows a father better than a daughter. Chen Jingyi understood Chen Jingtian very well, but sadly, Chen Jingtian had yet to truly understand his only daughter.
"He did say that, but looking at the outcome of our bet, I win, and he loses. Miss, if you have time, I'd like to invite you to North Island to serve as a witness. I'd also like to invite you to visit my Zijing City. I'd be honored if you would accept the invitation."
East Island is their territory, and on East Island, Tang Rao couldn't make a move. Once on his home turf, North Island, Tang Rao could act however he pleased with Chen Jingyi.
Wooing a woman as laid-back as she was much easier than with other women. His interest in Chen Jingyi was at its peak, and deceiving her to come to North Island sooner was the best strategy to strike while the iron was hot.
"Go to North Island? I'm curious about the bet between you and my father."
Tang Rao's tone was too eager, which raised Chen Jingyi's suspicion.
Tang Rao had an interest in Chen Jingyi, while Chen Jingyi was interested in the bet between Tang Rao and her father. Each wanted the other to speak first, as the one who spoke first would be at a disadvantage. The first person to talk could easily influence if the other person would be truthful.
"How about you promise to visit North Island first, and then I'll slowly tell you about my bet with Lord Island Master?"
Tang Rao analyzed the pros and cons thoroughly and then proposed it clearly and directly to Chen Jingyi.
"I could just wait and ask my dad when he gets back."
Chen Jingyi started ordering dishes, discontinuing the previous conversation because she knew that if she continued, Tang Rao would have a reason to pressure her. A person who carries herself with ease should never reveal her weaknesses to others, giving them the chance to seize her handles.
"You're really someone who won't take a disadvantage. I used to think you were rather easygoing, but it looks like I'll need to redefine my view of you."
When Tang Rao mentioned that Chen Jingyi wouldn't suffer a loss, she just smiled. Seeing Tang Rao's aggrieved expression, she couldn't help but think this guy was a bit silly, but when she looked at him, she didn't find him annoying or see him as being too clever for his own good.
