It's just as well Ling Er didn't mention it earlier—Tang Rao was already feeling angry about it. He had initially blamed the Ent, thinking it was tricking him, but it turned out the problem was with Ling Er.

When he was transferring Immortal Energy to Ling Er, he hadn't known about her condition. All of that energy went to her side, and trying to take it back wasn't very realistic.

"I didn't give it to you willingly, stop flattering yourself."

As Tang Rao deliberately put on a stern face and spoke to Ling Er, the Ent sitting on the ground nearby almost burst out laughing.

"I never thought I'd see the day! Hahaha, you're going to make me die of laughter, hahaha."

The Ent doubled over, clutching its belly, and Tang Rao just couldn't look more comical being laughed at.

"Laugh one more time, just try, and you'll never appear in front of me again."

Tang Rao couldn't find a way to be angry at Ling Er, but he could certainly take it out on the little Ent, couldn't he?

Ling Er couldn't quite grasp why Tang Rao was angry.

"Did I do something wrong? I know I promised to leave the North Island and haven't done so yet. It's my fault for breaking the promise, but I have my reasons. I've done my best not to disturb you, so can't you let me stay here?"

Ling Er only wanted to live on the same island as Tang Rao. When she missed him, she'd sneak to see him occasionally. She had it all planned out; unless Tang Rao wanted to see her, she'd stay out of his way forever if needed. Wasn't that enough?

"I'm not making you leave."

Ling Er decided that if Tang Rao dared to say she had to leave, she would immediately run away, so far he couldn't find her. Next time she wanted to see Tang Rao, she'd just be a little more careful.

Unexpectedly, this time Tang Rao didn't ask Ling Er to leave but instead made his stance clear to her verbally.

"If you're not driving me away, then why were you chasing me?"

If Ling Er hadn't thought Tang Rao was trying to drive her away, she wouldn't have run so fast, almost losing her breath in the process.

"If you're running, why wouldn't I chase you?"

"If you chase, I definitely have to run!"

Tang Rao and Ling Er, arguing over who was right, eventually couldn't help but laugh.

"You little imp, young as you are, your mouth is pretty sharp!"

This was Tang Rao's assessment of Ling Er. Among all he said, he felt this was the fairest comment for her to hear.

"You're too kind. My mouth doesn't have a patch on yours. With just a word, you can do whatever you want with people. I've never seen someone as overbearing as you."

Ling Er felt the most aggrieved. How could it be made to sound as if she was more tyrannical than Tang Rao?

"On the North Island, what I say goes. If you can surpass me, then fine, but for now, let's discuss the matter of compensation."

Tang Rao was serious about compensation. He took out an abacus, showing Ling Er with his actions that he wasn't joking with her.

"Compensation? I don't owe you anything, do I?"

She hadn't borrowed, robbed, or stolen anything; where did this talk of compensation come from?

"Owe nothing? Then you should return the Immortal Energy I lost to you, untouched."

That forced loss of Immortal Energy almost cost Tang Rao his peak late-stage celestial power. With a witness vouching for him, does he need to fear that Ling Er will deny it?

"It's not like I asked for your Immortal Energy. You gave it to me without mentioning any conditions. Did you consult me, the person involved? Now you want me to return it—no way."

Ling Er quickly adopted Tang Rao's shameless style, mimicking it halfway through, leaving her baffled. What was all this about? Was it all just Tang Rao's wishful thinking?

"Oh? I forced you to do this?"

Wasn't that what Ling Er said? It was clear Tang Rao needed to teach Ling Er what genuine wishful thinking meant.

He moved in closer, hugging Ling Er, and pecked her lips.

"I kissed you voluntarily. I don't ask for anything in return, nor want you to take responsibility. How do you feel about that?"

Tang Rao kissed Ling Er?

Ling Er was still a bit stupefied. No one had ever kissed her, especially on such a sensitive spot as her lips.

Since childhood, she had always thought her first kiss would be for the man she loved the most. Never did she imagine that before she found her most beloved man, her first kiss was taken by the most unpredictable one.

"My first kiss? Tang Rao, what have you done?"

Ling Er felt utterly dazed for a moment. When she finally came to and attempted to slap Tang Rao, the guy was clever and had already moved out of her reach.

"I kissed you. Didn't you feel it just now?"

This wasn't an expression of affection but rather using her own methods against her, showing Ling Er that Tang Rao was not someone easily provoked.

"I know you kissed me, but what right do you have to do that?"

That's the crux, right? Is Tang Rao truly so oblivious, or is he just playing dumb in Ling Er's presence?

"You said I forced you to have my Immortal Energy. You didn't refuse; receiving it has no relation with me. So when I kissed you, just pretend I forced you, too. You didn't refuse, so it's nothing to do with me."

Hahaha, the feeling of being able to tease Ling Er could be summed up in two words: truly delightful.

He was quite thrilled a moment ago, but over at Ling Er, her expression was far less amiable. Her eyes quickly reddened, and tears started falling.

"Why are you crying? You didn't refuse me. If I knew you wanted to refuse, I wouldn't have done it. Wouldn't you agree?"

Given how Ling Er was crying, Tang Rao still thought to provoke her with sarcasm. Was making Ling Er cry all Tang Rao's ultimate goal?

"Tang Rao, yes, I like you, but that can't be an excuse for you to humiliate me. I am, after all, a Rao Family member. Before we have any relation, what right do you have to treat me like this?"

Indeed, on what grounds?

If it came down to it, Tang Rao could only claim it was because he was so handsome.

If he were to utter this, Ling Er would probably spit blood in frustration.

"Miss, remember, it's you who owe me. I saved your life; now you're kissed by me. What's the big deal? Weren't you professing your affection for me before? So that earlier affection was all just a joke to you?"

After kissing Ling Er, Tang Rao did feel somewhat remorseful in his heart. But seeing how stubborn Ling Er's temper was and her reluctance to apologize to him, he ended up saying hurtful things to her.

In the end, it was Tang Rao's foul temper; he simply didn't want to back down in front of a woman.
