The Plant Master Becomes A Mute Sub-Beast: Farming And Laying Eggs
Chapter 269: OfferingsWhen Kaelen woke up again, the outside was covered in white snow. Below the altar’s base, a group of kids was sitting huddled by a fire. Besides the original three children, Kaelen also saw four new faces.
The oldest was only as big as Harbet, the youngest was still being cradled in arms. Even though there was the heat of the fire, every child’s lips were dark purple from the cold. The exposed skin and flesh all turned pale blue.
Kaelen looked at the surrounding scenery, seeing the Shrine was cleaned quite thoroughly. At least it was not as messy as the beginning anymore. One day naturally could not clean this much. Kaelen guessed that he had slept for at least three days or more.
"Harbet, have you decided to leave this place? If you stay here, at least you will be protected by the Deities."
An Elf clan child spoke up. This boy had a similar age to Harbet; the proud long hair of the Elf clan was cut short, jagged like a dog gnawed it. Harbet added firewood to the fire, answering:
"I do not know where my parents and older brother are. I cannot stay here enjoying myself alone, leaving them with an unknown life or death out there."
The Elf boy frowned, not quite agreeing: "What can you do if you go out? You are only twelve years old, still not receiving the Warrior inheritance. Your size is not even enough to stuff the crevices of a demonic creature’s teeth."
Kaelen nodded, feeling this Elf boy spoke correctly. But Harbet did not think so: "I am very good at running away. If I meet demonic creatures, I will definitely hide. Our Snow Wolf clan is the most suitable to move in this snowy weather."
The Elf boy did not speak anymore, casting his eyes to look at everyone once, asking: "Does anyone else want to leave? If you want to leave, then the hoarded dry rations will be given entirely to you."
A kid whose whole body was pale green immediately spoke up: "I am not going. We Goblins do not have combat strength, going outside is only death."
The Dwarf girl beside the Goblin kid also said: "My family has no one left, I also do not know where my clan members were sold to. I will just stay here."
Finishing a round, besides Harbet and a Lion clan kid, the children all chose to stay.
The Elf boy nodded: "Alright then, this entire amount of dry rations will be divided half for each of you." The boy looked up at the Deity statue, saying: "Now that He guards here, those demonic creatures do not dare to approach this place; finding food for us is also much easier than for you."
The words of refusal from Harbet and the Lion kid reached their lips but were swallowed back inside. Paul was a person who always had his own opinions, their wandering children group usually took Paul as the lead. Paul had said to yield the food to the two of them so they must definitely take it, otherwise do not even hope to leave this Shrine.
Kaelen let out a sigh, slowly saying:
"You kids just stay there, do not go anywhere. Demonic creatures have stationed outside my domain, among them even having high-level demonic creatures. As long as you step outside, you will be killed immediately by them."
The whole group of children suddenly became chaotic, huddling together in a corner.
"Who? Who said that?" The Elf boy tremblingly grasped the wooden spear, standing blocking in front of his companions.
Kaelen smiled softly, his laughter ringing like a silver bell; tiny waves suddenly rippled in the air. The Deity statue flashed brightly, Kaelen’s transparent figure appearing. He walked step by step in the mid-air, approaching the children, reaching out his hand to rub the Elf boy’s head. Kaelen did not spare his words of praise:
"Truly worthy of being a descendant of the God of Life. Knowing to protect your friends in a critical moment, you are a brave child."
The children blankly looked at this scene, their eye sockets heating up. They simultaneously knelt down, a patch of reverence in their eyes. It turned out Harbet’s group did not deceive them; the Deity truly had manifested!
Kaelen turned his head back, looking towards the altar. On it, besides a few wild fruits, there were a flower bouquet and a stone with a very beautiful color. Kaelen recognized that it was a pure Wood-attribute magic stone.
Perhaps it was thanks to it and the faith from these children that his Divine soul gained freedom for a moment.
Kaelen approached the Shrine, placing his hand onto the magic stone. Dense Magical Energy entered his Divine soul, consolidating his origin power. When the Magical Energy was just completely sucked dry, the stone immediately turned into powder.
Kaelen closed his eyes, entering his sea of consciousness, condensing his origin sword to slash breaking the chains imprisoning his Divine Energy. Three chains were cut; his Divine soul felt slightly dizzy again.
It seemed, destroying all the chains at once was impossible. However, he had regained one-tenth of his strength. Just this one-tenth was enough.
Kaelen opened his eyes, his Divine soul also gradually became more solid. He turned his head to ask the children:
"Where did you get this stone?"
The Elf boy tremblingly answered: "Great God of Nature, I got this thing in a valley not far from here. At that time I saw it was quite beautiful so I brought it back..."
Kaelen rubbed the boy’s head: "Thank you, this thing has helped me a lot. Can you point the direction to that valley for me?"
The boy immediately stood up, running outside the door, pointing towards the East: "Over there, Sir. It only takes a moment to arrive, I will lead You there."
Kaelen focused his mind to search, successfully discovering a large amount of Magical Energy in the direction the boy pointed. He shook his head: "That place is outside my domain, it is not safe for you to go outside."
He searched again by the side of the Deity statue, seeing his spatial bag was also petrified. He tried using Divine Energy to probe, successfully able to take the items inside.
Kaelen immediately waved his hand, taking out pots and pans, bowls and plates, ladles and spoons, knives and cutting boards along with a bag of white rice, a jar of salt, a jar of lard, smoked meat, and chicken eggs.
"These things are enough for you to eat for a week. Stay put in here until I return."
Currently, the things he took out were only this much. His Divine Energy was only enough to further consolidate the domain, preventing the high-level demonic creature pack from rushing in. If used to force-ripen crops, it was still a bit of a stretch.
He wanted to go find Sane, but wanting to find Sane then at least he must leave this Shrine first.
Kaelen finished instructing the children then immediately transformed into a light beam, flying towards the valley that the Elf boy named Paul had pointed out. Inside the Shrine, only the children were left blankly looking at each other.
Paul was the person recovering his senses first. The boy turned to say to Harbet and the Lion kid:
"You two heard Him say already, currently you cannot go outside. Let’s stay put in here as He instructed."
Having spoken, the boy opened the rice bag. Each pure white rice grain reflected in the boy’s eyes, carrying a fragrant aroma.
"This thing is probably cooked like millet right? There is even salt..." Paul took a deep breath, beginning to voice instructions: "Leon, quickly go scoop clean snow back here to cook rice. Harbet, you add firewood..."
Paul gave orders to each person one by one; except for the small kids like Mono and Ivy, the older ones all had to work. Before long, the fragrant rice porridge smell had spread in the air.
Paul took the smoked meat piece hanging over the fire stove down, cutting it into thin slices, placing three slices into each porridge bowl. The Dwarf girl beat the eggs fluffy, adding them into the hot porridge bowls. The egg quickly cooked into a golden color; she hurriedly blew it cool, feeding the child still being cradled small spoonfuls.
"Alright, hurry and come get the food. Today we only eat one bowl to avoid stomachaches, tomorrow we will eat more."
The children immediately lined up in turn stepping forward to receive porridge and spoons, then returning to their places, slowly scooping each spoonful of porridge. The hot warmth and the salty taste of the salt made the children’s austere facial features relax.
After eating porridge and finishing cleaning up, the children immediately went to sleep. Each shift would assign two kids to stay awake guarding the fire, changing a shift approximately every two hours, exactly like that until morning.
A wisp of Divine consciousness that Kaelen left on the Deity statue quickly transmitted these images back to him. Kaelen nodded satisfied.
It seemed, even though they were wandering children, these children really knew how to survive. Especially that child named Paul. His survival skills and group leadership ability were absolutely not things a normal family’s child could do.
It seemed, this boy’s identity was not simple at all.
