The Real Heiress Has an Appraisal System
Chapter 117: Miss Gu, Did You Really Think Making Money Was That Simple?"Thank you for the compliment, sir. I’ll be sure to work even harder in the future."
The livestream chat also exploded:
"What a class act!"
"What a class act!"
"..."
Qiu Xiaojun then turned to the staff. "Although it was a draw, Miss Gu’s analysis of the artifact in the final round was incredibly thorough. She even managed to find the antidote."
"I’m truly humbled. I cannot, in good conscience, accept this draw."
"The final prize of fifty million should be Miss Gu’s."
He spoke with genuine excitement. ’Finally, a promising talent has emerged from the younger generation.’
The staff member nodded slightly. "The final decision on this matter rests with the three organizers. Please wait a moment, everyone."
The staff member then left, leaving Qiu Xiaojun to look at Gu Shengsheng. "You must continue to be diligent and work hard. The Antique Appraisal World will surely have a place for you in the future."
"No... in fact, you already have one." He laughed heartily.
Gu Shengsheng said, "Thank you for your graciousness, sir."
"I’m only able to receive the prize money thanks to your generosity."
As they shook hands, Qiu Xiaojun leaned in and whispered something to Gu Shengsheng. Her expression flickered for a moment before she composed herself, acting as if nothing had happened.
A moment later, the staff member returned and announced, "After a unanimous evaluation by the organizers and the online panel of experts, we have decided that Miss Gu is the winner of the third round. She will receive a prize of fifty million yuan. Her total winnings over three rounds come to fifty-five million, five hundred fifty thousand."
The room immediately erupted in applause.
Gu Shengsheng accepted with grace, offering her thanks.
Her hand, clutching the check, was starting to sweat. ’Qiu Xiaojun just told me to be careful...’
’He also told me to be prepared for the possibility that I wouldn’t be able to take all the prize money with me.’
’Seeing his grave expression, I realized it probably wasn’t going to be as simple as just taking the money.’
She had known this place was a vortex before she even came. Now that she was here, she was determined to get out—unharmed, and without losing a single cent.
That was her principle.
Gao Liu and his two companions started walking over to meet her, but another staff member stepped onto the stage and blocked their path.
"Excuse me, Mr. Gao," the staffer said. "Miss Gu has won the grand prize of fifty million, but there’s still some paperwork to complete. The signing process is quite lengthy, so it’s best if you return to the hotel and wait for her there."
Gao Liu and the others didn’t see any issue with this and nodded. "Alright."
The staff member continued, "The competition itself is over, but there will be a one-day surprise event tomorrow. We ask that everyone be on time for that."
Although Gao Liu and his companions were a little suspicious, they agreed.
Gu Shengsheng didn’t notice anything amiss either. She nodded and said to the staffer, "Let’s go. We should hurry, I haven’t had dinner yet."
The process was indeed lengthy. Gu Shengsheng reviewed and signed numerous documents, mostly related to taxes and various partnership agreements.
She reviewed the legal clauses, all of which seemed standard and didn’t put her at a disadvantage, so she signed them.
Then, the person from finance left, saying, "Miss Gu, we will go process the wire transfer now."
"Please wait here for a moment."
Gu Shengsheng was puzzled. "I can’t leave yet?"
"Miss Gu, Chairman He would like to invite you to dinner to discuss a partnership. Weren’t you aware?"
Before she could answer, the person left, leaving her alone in the conference room where she had signed the documents.
Gu Shengsheng instantly had a bad feeling. ’Is Chairman He planning to settle accounts? Is this a trap?’
’The doors and windows are open, and there are still staff around. If I run now, I might still have time to get away,’ she thought.
Just as she reached the doorway, the supposedly automatic door slid shut. The room, which had been brightly lit moments ago, was now plunged into darkness.
The windows must have been covered as well, but strangely... she hadn’t heard the sound of any curtains being drawn.
Suddenly, Gu Shengsheng felt a jolt. The room seemed to be descending.
A cold sweat broke out all over her body. ’What the hell kind of room is this?’
It was obvious now: the room was an elevator.
She knew there was something wrong with this castle, but she never imagined it was something like this!
Gu Shengsheng now suspected that Qiu Xiaojun had intentionally thrown the match. ’This whole thing runs deeper than I thought.’
’It’s one thing to not make money, but I can’t afford to lose my life!’
Then, the room came to a smooth stop. Before Gu Shengsheng could react, a blinding light pierced the darkness, accompanied by a faint, sweet scent.
She couldn’t identify it...
Then she saw an old man with graying hair sitting in a wheelchair. Pushing him was He Chen.
So, the man in the chair had to be Chairman He.
Gu Shengsheng scanned her surroundings. Solid walls on all sides!
’What the hell! Is this some kind of illusion? How did they even get in here?’
Seeing Gu Shengsheng’s dumbfounded expression, as if she’d just seen a ghost,
He Chen called out, "Gu Shengsheng, are you scared?"
"I wonder what business Chairman He could have with a nobody like me?" Gu Shengsheng asked, her tone level.
"After Miss Gu’s dominating performance, we naturally had to meet you," He Chen replied. The old man in the wheelchair remained silent.
He Chen said with a smile, "Miss Gu, you managed to snag a treasure from our family’s private banquet, and now you’ve sailed through three rounds of this competition. With skills like that, who can compare to you?"
Gu Shengsheng blinked. "Oh? Has Young Master Xiao only just now figured that out?"
He was clearly a different person from the loud, flustered boy he’d been in front of Lu Chaoyang.
Even with Gu Shengsheng’s jab, his composure didn’t crack.
He simply said, "It was only after witnessing Miss Gu’s true abilities that I realized."
"Miss Gu, why don’t you join our He Family? Our family’s antique business is far larger than just this."
"Think of how much money you could earn with us!" He Chen said, his voice laced with temptation. Afraid he had misspoken, he instinctively glanced at Chairman He.
Gu Shengsheng noticed that he glanced cautiously at the old man in the wheelchair after every sentence.
’His lines must have been prepared in advance.’
’Is he just trying to prove to his father that he can handle things on his own?’
Gu Shengsheng didn’t beat around the bush or waste time with pleasantries. She stated bluntly, "No, thank you. The He Family deals in too many fakes. I only appraise genuine articles; I don’t get involved in such shabby business."
"And for such a large family, I haven’t seen the He Family do much of anything that’s open and aboveboard."
She was being completely blunt. She’d barely said a few words when He Chen pulled a gun and aimed it at Gu Shengsheng. "Say one more word. I dare you!"
"Don’t you dare slander the He Family in front of my father!"
Gu Shengsheng found this laughable. She pulled out her phone. "I’m recording this. Illegal possession of a firearm. If I die, you’ll go to prison. I’ve already uploaded it to a social media site. It’s encrypted, so you can’t delete it, and it’s scheduled to post automatically."
’Threatening me? I, Gu Shengsheng, have never been one to be threatened.’
Chairman He glanced at his son. He Chen retreated, holstered the gun, and said nothing more.
Chairman He looked at her. "Miss Gu, if you don’t cooperate, you aren’t leaving this room."
The words were spoken casually, almost weightlessly, but Gu Shengsheng knew Chairman He was dead serious.
Because she had just discovered that she couldn’t send a message or even dial 110. There was no signal at all.
