The Real Heiress Has an Appraisal System
Chapter 128: I’ll Choose My Own BuyerClearly, the people in this business were ruthless.
Their ability to target people and dig up information was probably first-rate.
Gu Shengsheng nodded. "You must be tired from your journey. Please, come in and sit. We can talk in more detail inside."
The two men placed the gifts they had brought for her on the table. After all, one couldn’t visit someone’s home empty-handed.
"Miss Gu, you haven’t sold the item yet, have you?"
"I haven’t," she said, pouring them water.
The man breathed a sigh of relief.
"Let’s not beat around the bush. We know you’re a trustworthy person, Miss Gu. We are, in fact, here for that string of numbers."
"Miss Gu, the two of us have decided to offer you twenty million. Would you be willing to sell it to us? We can discuss the details."
They were certainly direct.
They had laid all their cards on the table the moment they walked in.
After all, the person on the livestream yesterday had only offered two million.
Today, the offer was twenty million. This item was clearly worth a lot of money.
The main thing was that these people were buying a *possibility*. There was also a chance they wouldn’t make a single cent.
Gu Shengsheng clutched the warm cup.
She asked, "You all know this item is extraordinary. So why would I sell it instead of keeping it for myself?"
At this, Liu Bo replied with absolute certainty, "You won’t, Miss Gu."
"It’s impossible for you to make money from it, either. Even for us, people who’ve been trading stocks and futures for a long time, there’s no certainty how much we can earn. A layman simply can’t break into this world."
"Having the key is one thing, but you also need the know-how."
Gu Shengsheng nodded. She’d guessed as much. She had only asked because she wanted to clarify for herself what kind of buyer she was looking for.
She had felt uncertain before, with no clear plan. But now, an idea was forming. She needed someone willing to pay a fair price, someone who wouldn’t try to cheat her, and someone who could also reap a huge profit from it. An ideal candidate was already forming in her mind.
Just as Gu Shengsheng was about to refuse them, another knock came from the door.
When she opened it, she found not one or two people, but a large group standing outside.
They were all dressed in either casual wear or business suits.
Gu Shengsheng asked, "The security guards at the entrance... didn’t they say anything? They just let you all in?"
She found it absurd. Normally, security at Wanliu Apartment was top-notch.
Outsiders usually weren’t even allowed on the premises, so why were there so many today?
One of the men laughed. "That’s because we own property here too, Miss Gu. We just don’t live here most of the time."
"..." ’Alright, so it’s just me, the poor one, who’s out of the loop.’
The two men who were already inside also came out to see.
It was then that Liu Bo realized he’d been celebrating too early.
He had thought they were the first to arrive, but it looked like everyone else had shown up now, too.
One of the men in the crowd pointed at Liu Bo and asked her, "So, what was their offer?"
Liu Bo answered, "We offered twenty million."
"I’d say this is just a gamble. You probably can’t afford twenty million—"
Before he could finish, a portly, older man cut in, "Thirty million. Miss Gu, sell the book to me."
Gu Shengsheng: "..."
She didn’t even have a chance to speak before the people around her began to fight over it.
Gu Shengsheng said seriously, "What if... I choose none of you?"
Her words stunned everyone into a momentary silence.
One of them echoed Liu Bo’s earlier warning, "Miss Gu, if you keep it, you might not make any money. You could even end up losing everything."
"I have a plan, and I already have a partner in mind. Thank you for coming, everyone. Please get some rest." With these words, Gu Shengsheng was politely showing them the door.
She was resolute, but everyone still thought it was a shame.
Any discerning person could see that Gu Shengsheng didn’t actually understand any of this. She knew nothing about cryptocurrency, let alone stock trading.
’How could she possibly make money?’
’Who is this partner of hers?’
Pretty much all of the top programmers in the country were here. What on earth was Gu Shengsheng thinking?
Though they all found her decision baffling and wanted to try persuading her further, Gu Shengsheng was simply too stubborn.
Besides, the look in her eyes was clearly telling them to leave, so they couldn’t press the matter.
If a deal couldn’t be made, then so be it.
Lu Shijing had also been keeping an eye on the situation. He was in his office handling paperwork when he saw the update and paused.
’Who is this partner she wants to work with?’
’If it’s someone like Zhao Dehai, they don’t know anything about this stuff either.’
’But that’s fine. Even if she tries to do it herself, it’s not a problem. I’ll just find an opportunity to go over and teach her.’
’After all, he’d made his fortune trading on Wall Street. He’d pulled off countless high-stakes investments, often making something from nothing. He knew this business inside and out—far better, at least, than any of the people trying to buy from her.’
Lu Shijing was just wondering if he should leave work early to stage a "chance encounter."
To his surprise, a WeChat call came in from Gu Shengsheng.
He suddenly tensed up. Gu Shengsheng rarely called him; in fact, they hardly ever contacted each other at all. The recent appraisal competition had closed the distance between them a little, but otherwise, they were practically strangers.
He answered the call but remained silent.
Gu Shengsheng’s voice came through, "Mr. Ryan?"
"Yes," he replied. Despite his nervousness, his expression remained impassive, and he forced the word out.
"I have something I’d like to discuss with you. I’m not sure if you saw my livestream."
Before she could say another word, Lu Shijing quickly replied, "I saw it."
That threw Gu Shengsheng for a loop. She sounded surprised. "A man as busy as you has time to watch livestreams?"
"Yes," he replied, still sticking to one-word answers.
Then he asked, "Is this about the Bitcoin?"
"It is. I figure since I don’t understand any of this, leaving it in my hands would just let it go to waste or squander its potential value. Those people earlier weren’t wrong."
"It’s fine," he said, his voice even. "I can teach you."
Gu Shengsheng quickly clarified, though he couldn’t see her shaking her head. "That’s not why I called. I want to sell it to you. I’d like you to come over, take a look, and if you’re interested, you can give me a fair price."
Lu Shijing understood. ’She doesn’t trust those other people. For her to call me now... does that mean she trusts me?’
The corners of his lips curved up into a smile before he could stop them.
Then he said, "Alright."
’I could just give her a price right now,’ he thought, ’save her the trouble.’ But then he reconsidered. Opportunities to spend time with her were rare.
Being with her was relaxing. He didn’t feel the need to be constantly on edge. It was a comfortable feeling.
He hadn’t felt that way in years.
For the past several years, he had been constantly busy acquiring other companies and growing his own. He had forgotten that he, too, needed some emotional fulfillment.
Lu Shijing decided he was done with work for the day. After delegating his remaining tasks, he drove back to Wanliu Apartment.
He rang the doorbell. When Gu Shengsheng saw it was him on the security monitor, she hurried to open the door.
