The Real Heiress Has an Appraisal System

Chapter 45: Young Madam Rams Her Brother-in-Law With an Excavator, Thrilling

Gu Shengsheng quickly opened her phone. Sure enough, the celebrity news on Weibo had died down.

Whether it was influencer accounts or official pages, they were all featuring the Enamel Bird Cage she had restored.

She was still trending.

Gu Shengsheng read the praise and, for once, felt that these netizens had a discerning eye.

’Keep it coming,’ she thought. ’They’re just speaking the plain truth!’

She browsed with relish and even registered a new alternate account: AAA Pro Junk Collector Sister Gu.

She changed her profile picture to a lotus flower and started surfing the web freely, taking the opportunity to roast haters in the comment sections.

Indeed, her insults were nastier than anyone else’s.

’They were all keyboard warriors, anyway. No one was any better than anyone else.’

Just then, Gu Shengsheng got a call from the excavator operator. "Miss Gu, I’m about halfway through, almost done. If you come over now, we should be finishing up right around then."

"Alrighty."

With that, Gu Shengsheng switched her account back, packed up her livestreaming phone and her personal one, and hopped on a shared bike to head back to the courtyard house.

About half of the demolition work on the rubble heap was still left to do.

Gu Shengsheng took off her safety helmet and walked over to ask the operator a question, but she was stopped by the sight of several men in suits and ties.

One of them said, "Miss Gu, this is a residential area, and people are trying to rest. You’re disturbing our boss’s sleep, so please reschedule the construction for another day."

Gu Shengsheng looked at the three men in suits. ’They look a little familiar.’

Especially the one leading them. She felt like she’d seen him somewhere before.

Then, the man flashed her a wide, professional smile. "Miss Gu, I’m Lin Kai."

"Oh." Realization dawned on Gu Shengsheng. "Is Lu Chaoyang sleeping next door?"

"No, Miss Gu. Our president’s home is a two-alley walk from here."

Gu Shengsheng stroked her chin. "He was sleeping at the old family estate last night. What’s he doing at his courtyard house now?"

Lin Kai deliberately let a few details slip, helping her out in plain sight. "Our president found out Mr. Zhao came looking for you. He went back to the estate, but you weren’t there. When he learned you’d come here, he came over specifically to stake the place out."

He whispered to Gu Shengsheng.

He inwardly snickered. ’There’s no better spy than me.’

’Not only can I manage the moods of both bosses, but I can also feign compliance while secretly defying orders to get the job done for both of them.’

’It’s nothing, just the standard operating procedure for a wage slave. Totally not worth mentioning.’

Gu Shengsheng looked at his theatrical display, utterly speechless. "..."

’She even wondered if he was a bit schizophrenic.’

"I’ve already cleared this with all my neighbors. Yesterday, the Bean Juice Shop Owner was even rushing me to finish, saying he couldn’t wait to see the result. And now your president, who lives so far away, has a problem with it?"

Saying this, Gu Shengsheng tapped her chin.

She said, "Maybe I should go have a little chat with him?"

"Lin Kai, lead the way."

Lin Kai nodded. ’Of course!’ Just as he was about to step forward, Gu Shengsheng grabbed him by the collar.

Lin Kai: ’Huh? Why am I just marching in place?’

Then, Gu Shengsheng handed him the excavator operator’s safety helmet.

She said, "We’re taking the excavator."

Lin Kai: "..."

’Isn’t this being a little too much of a show-off? This is way too flashy and awkward.’

"There’s no need to bother the operator, Young Madam. We can walk, it’s not far."

But Gu Shengsheng had already hauled him over to the excavator like she was carrying a kitten, a stern look in her eyes.

Lin Kai, now a little frightened, obediently sat trembling in the passenger seat like a quail in a storm.

He wondered to himself, ’If I’m taking up the only passenger seat, where is Miss Gu going to sit?’

But to his surprise, Gu Shengsheng went straight to the driver’s seat.

She looked perfectly at ease as she prepared to operate the excavator.

Meeting Lin Kai’s shocked gaze, she said, "Don’t worry, I have a license for this. I was professionally trained."

Gu Shengsheng wasn’t lying. Her undergraduate degree was in geology, and they often had to dig up rocks, usually with the help of an excavator operator.

But her advisor at the time was on a tight budget and told the students to figure it out themselves. So, she did. She went and got her excavator license.

She was just good at adapting to the situation.

Lin Kai’s lips trembled. "Am I going to make it out of this alive? In a minute... it’ll be the boss’s wife who can drive an excavator... and my soon-to-be ex-boss..."

He pictured them together: one operating an excavator, the other running a company...

"That pairing is... like a ’dopamine’ outfit."

A bitter taste filled his mouth. He was at a loss for words, his head just buzzing.

Because when the excavator roared to life, the noise was indeed deafening.

Gu Shengsheng frowned, giving him a look one might reserve for a complete idiot. "Directions."

Lin Kai didn’t dare say another word and focused with every fiber of his being. By the time they reached the gate of Lu Chaoyang’s courtyard house, Lu Chaoyang himself was standing in the yard, watering his flowers.

He froze for a moment when he saw the scene before him.

Gu Shengsheng promptly dispatched Lin Kai from the cab.

He said, "President, Miss Gu said that if you..."

"Her exact words," Lu Chaoyang said, his face cold.

"If you keep running your damn mouth, she’s going to tear down your house with the excavator."

"She said you can’t even hear the excavator from here. And if you’re going to be unreasonable, she’s more than happy to be unreasonable right back."

"Hah! She has the guts?" Lu Chaoyang scoffed. "Let her try. I’ll just stand here and watch. Does she actually have the nerve to do anything?"

Lin Kai, the double agent, was already recording the entire exchange on Gu Shengsheng’s phone.

’What could he do? Men die for wealth as birds die for food. He had to pick the winning side.’

Gu Shengsheng saw Lu Chaoyang’s dead-eyed stare and understood everything.

She slammed the levers, maneuvered the arm, and started digging right in front of him.

Step one: scoop up the dirt just one centimeter from the tip of his leather shoes, then let it drop from high above.

Even though Lu Chaoyang hadn’t believed she would do it, he still jumped back in fright.

As for Lin Kai, he had already scurried off to a dark corner to film the whole thing. ’Heh heh heh... The Young Madam is so badass.’

After startling Lu Chaoyang, Gu Shengsheng moved on to step two. She expertly maneuvered the excavator to flatten all the flowers and plants in the yard. Once the bucket was full, she swiveled the arm and dumped the entire pile right in front of Lu Chaoyang.

Lu Chaoyang: "..."

With the momentum on her side, she pressed her advantage.

For her third step, Gu Shengsheng tore down a section of his courtyard wall.

Finally, Lu Chaoyang roared, "Enough, Gu Shengsheng!"

"Who the hell do you think you are?! I’m calling the police!" His lips were turning purple with rage. "I don’t care if we’re family, I’m not letting you get away with this! It won’t matter even if Grandma herself shows up!"

"You are absolutely out of control!"

Gu Shengsheng watched his display of impotent rage and tutted. "Tsk, tsk."

"Oh, Brother Chaoyang," she said mockingly, "I called the police before you did. I even sent them the recording of you telling me to ’put on a show’ while you watched."

"How could I possibly refuse such a shameless request?"

Gu Shengsheng put on a troubled expression. "I was originally going to discuss this civil dispute about the construction with you, family to family. But you just had to insist that I make a scene. As your sister-in-law, it would have been rude of me to refuse."

Lu Chaoyang: "..."

For the first time, he was truly confronted with how vile and utterly unreasonable this woman could be. And at that very moment, his hatred for Gu Shengsheng peaked.
