The Rebirth of Humanity

Chapter 04: The Pillars of Humanity

The sky above the Sacred Land of Humanity was calm and clear.

A vast blue expanse stretched endlessly across the heavens, disturbed only by a few distant white clouds drifting slowly with the wind.

Sunlight bathed the human capital, glimmering across the golden and silver surfaces of its magnificent palaces and colossal buildings, while the banners of humanity fluttered proudly atop the towering spires.

At first glance...

Everything appeared peaceful.

But beneath that tranquility lay an unceasing vigilance.

Countless powerful human soldiers stood at their posts atop the enormous walls surrounding the capital.

Some carried sharp weapons.

Others wore heavy armor.

And still others hovered high in the sky, watching every inch of the surrounding territory.

No unidentified individual was permitted to approach.

Nor was any unknown force allowed to infiltrate.

For this place was not merely a capital.

It was...

Humanity's final stronghold.

The last great land remaining to mankind after the catastrophe that had befallen them during the Primordial War.

And for that reason, the soldiers did not dare neglect their duty for even a moment.

One of the guards stood atop a high watchtower, silently gazing into the distance.

Then his companion beside him spoke.

"Do you think the enemy would dare attack the Sacred Land?"

The other guard chuckled lightly.

"Who would dare?"

He then glanced toward the enormous palace at the heart of the capital.

"This is the Sacred Land of Humanity. Even our greatest enemies would think a thousand times before approaching it."

The first guard nodded.

"Indeed..."

Then he fell silent.

For no matter how powerful their enemies were...

There was one thing everyone knew.

There were secrets buried deep within this land that no one should ever approach.

Suddenly...

One of the guards raised his head.

His expression changed.

"What is that?"

"What?"

He pointed toward the sky.

"Look!"

The next moment...

A white beam of light appeared on the horizon.

Then another.

Red.

Then a third.

Green.

Then a fourth.

Golden.

Four beams of light had appeared simultaneously from four different directions.

They tore across the sky at astonishing speed, heading directly toward the enormous palace standing at the heart of the capital.

Several patrols halted for a moment.

A number of soldiers instinctively raised their weapons.

But before any of them could take action...

One of the commanders shouted:

"Stand down!"

The soldiers froze.

One of them asked in confusion:

"But, Commander, there are four people heading directly toward the palace!"

The commander smiled.

"There is no need to worry."

He lowered his head slightly.

"They are not enemies."

A soldier asked:

"Who are they?"

The commander raised his head and gazed toward the four beams of light.

Then he said with profound respect:

"You will know in a moment."

When the four beams reached the outskirts of the human capital...

They suddenly stopped.

And within each beam...

A human figure began to take shape.

From the white beam emerged a middle-aged man.

His body was powerful, his posture straight, and his aura carried the majesty of a warrior who had fought countless battles.

From the red beam emerged an old man.

His hair was white, his features ancient, yet his eyes were clear and frighteningly sharp.

From the green beam emerged an extraordinarily beautiful woman.

Her expression was serene, yet the profound aura surrounding her made even the air seem heavier.

From the golden beam emerged another extraordinarily beautiful woman.

She possessed a noble and sacred aura, while her eyes carried a depth that ordinary people could never comprehend.

Only four people.

Yet the moment they appeared...

The entire atmosphere changed.

The soldiers felt their bodies grow heavier.

Several weapons trembled in their hands.

Then...

Every guard dropped to one knee.

It was not an order.

It was an instinctive reaction to the presence of these four individuals.

One of the soldiers raised his voice.

"We salute..."

Then everyone shouted together:

"We salute the Four Pillars of Humanity!"

Their voices echoed throughout the capital.

The Four Pillars of Humanity.

Four individuals who represented the pinnacle of human authority.

Thorin.

Valor.

Morgana.

Eleanor.

The four did not even glance at the soldiers.

Nor did they stop to acknowledge anyone.

Their eyes were fixed upon the palace at the center of the capital.

There was only one thing occupying their minds.

That voice.

The ancient voice that had echoed through the palace moments ago.

The voice that had made their hearts tremble.

The voice they had believed they would never hear again.

They moved swiftly.

And within moments...

They appeared before the main gate of the magnificent palace.

Several officials had already gathered there after hearing the voice.

The instant Thorin appeared, he strode toward them.

It was obvious that he could no longer conceal his excitement.

He spoke loudly:

"Where?"

He paused for a moment.

Then demanded:

"Where did the voice you reported to us come from?!"

The officials were stunned.

They had never seen Lord Thorin in such a state before.

The man was normally calm and resolute, but now...

His eyes were filled with unmistakable excitement.

One of the officials stepped forward and bowed.

"Lord Thorin..."

But Thorin interrupted him.

"Don't waste time!"

He almost grabbed the man's shoulders.

"Tell me!"

The official glanced at the other three Pillars.

Valor was watching him silently.

Morgana had her hands clasped before her chest, her eyes filled with anticipation.

As for Eleanor...

She was staring at him with a sharp gaze.

The official hesitated for a moment before speaking.

"It... It suddenly echoed throughout the palace, my lord."

"And then?"

"After we traced its echo..."

The official swallowed nervously.

Then said:

"We discovered that it came from deep within the Sovereign Palace."

Silence descended.

But Thorin was not satisfied.

He stepped closer.

"From where exactly?"

The official raised his head.

Then said:

"From the Forbidden Hall."

The moment those words left his mouth...

The expressions of the four changed completely.

Their eyes widened.

Then...

Their eyes turned crimson.

It was not anger.

It was excitement.

Joy.

After five thousand years...

Valor murmured:

"...Impossible."

Morgana covered her mouth with one hand.

"After five thousand years..."

As for Eleanor, her eyes trembled.

"Could it be..."

She did not finish her sentence.

Thorin, meanwhile...

Let out a short laugh filled with excitement.

"Ha..."

Then he said:

"Then we weren't wrong."

The four exchanged glances.

None of them needed to ask what it meant.

They understood.

And in the very next instant...

They disappeared.

Only a faint disturbance in the air remained behind.

The officials stared at the place where the four had been standing moments earlier.

"They're gone?!"

"How fast are they?!"

"Wait!"

Then they realized something.

If the Four Pillars had moved at such terrifying speed...

Then this matter had to be extraordinarily serious.

One of the officials shouted:

"Follow them!"

In the next instant, the group disappeared as well, following the traces left behind by the four rulers.

Everyone was stunned.

They had never seen the Four Pillars of Humanity behave like this before.

It was as though something ancient...

Something unimaginably great...

Had returned to existence.

After several moments...

Thorin, Valor, Morgana, and Eleanor appeared before the hall with the ancient black gate.

The four stopped.

The gate before them was enormous.

Ancient.

Covered in the marks of time.

Mysterious inscriptions adorned its surface, inscriptions that seemed to belong to an era older than anything humanity had ever known.

But strangely...

The four did not move.

They did not speak.

They did nothing.

They simply stood before the gate like statues.

Their eyes remained fixed upon it.

Longing.

Reverence.

Yearning.

And memories buried beneath five thousand years of time.

Valor closed his eyes for a moment.

Then slowly exhaled.

"Five thousand years..."

Morgana whispered:

"Nothing has changed."

Eleanor replied:

"No..."

A faint smile appeared upon her face.

"Rather... we are the ones who have changed."

Thorin said nothing.

He continued staring at the gate.

Then, in a low voice, he whispered:

"My lord..."

Behind them, the other group of officials began to arrive.

But they stopped immediately when they saw the scene before them.

They did not understand.

Why were the four rulers standing like this?

Why had they not moved?

And whom were they looking at?

Whispers began spreading among the officials.

"What is happening?"

"Why aren't they entering?"

"Are they waiting for someone?"

Then the Great Sage Valor stepped forward.

His voice was different.

It was not the voice of the Great Sage they were accustomed to hearing.

Rather...

It was the voice of a man standing before someone whose status surpassed everything he had ever known in his life.

His lips trembled slightly.

Then he said:

"Are... are you truly there, my lord?"

Everyone's breath caught.

Valor raised his head.

His eyes glimmered.

Then he asked:

"Have you awakened?"

The officials behind him froze.

"My lord?"

"Which lord is he talking about?"

"Who is inside that hall?"

"Is there someone else in there?"

"But this hall is forbidden!"

The whispers continued.

Until Eleanor suddenly shouted:

"Silence!"

Her voice reverberated throughout the area.

The whispers ceased instantly.

No one dared speak.

Silence returned.

Absolute silence.

Even the sound of the wind seemed to disappear.

Everyone waited.

Several moments passed.

Then...

The ancient black gate trembled.

The ground beneath their feet shook slightly.

Dust fell from the edges of the gate.

Everyone raised their heads.

Then a sound emerged from behind it.

Creeeeak...

The ancient gate began to open slowly.

Very slowly.

As though it had not been opened for thousands of years.

A profound darkness appeared behind it.

A darkness that made the officials' hearts tremble.

As for the Four Pillars...

They did not move.

They simply stood there.

Waiting.

Then...

A voice emerged from within the hall.

An ancient voice.

A voice filled with majesty.

With authority.

And with something that made every person present feel that their own existence had suddenly become insignificant.

"Enter."

The voice paused for a moment.

Then continued:

"This great one wishes to see you."
