The Rebirth of Humanity

Chapter 14: Cities of Resurrection

The return of humanity to Zeta did not stop.

On the contrary...

As the days passed, the flow of people became greater than ever.

Caravans arrived from every corner of Gandalia without pause.

Ships crossed the seas and skies, carrying families, possessions, and resources, while the roads leading to the ancient cities became so crowded that they could no longer accommodate the ever-growing population.

At first, the local authorities tried to deal with the situation.

Abandoned buildings were reopened.

Temporary shelters were prepared.

Markets were expanded.

And deserted districts were brought back into use.

But it was not enough.

The numbers were increasing at an astonishing rate.

Hundreds of thousands...

Then millions...

Soon, the figures surpassed the capacity of the old cities to accommodate them.

Then, one morning, a new order was issued by the Supreme Council of Humanity.

This time, it was not about the return.

It was about what would come afterward.

In one of the Supreme Council's chambers, a massive map of Zeta covered the entire wall.

Valor stood before it while Thorin and the other Four Pillars watched in silence.

The map was covered with new markings.

Designated construction zones.

Agricultural lands.

Locations for future cities.

Major roads.

And new ports.

One of the officials hurried into the chamber and bowed before them.

"The number of returning humans has exceeded the capacity of the existing cities."

He placed a stack of reports on the table.

"If the current rate of migration continues, the temporary housing will not be sufficient for much longer."

One of the Pillars raised his gaze.

"How many people have arrived so far?"

The official answered:

"The numbers are changing every hour, but our current estimates indicate tens of millions."

He paused before adding:

"And even greater numbers are still on their way to Zeta."

Silence filled the chamber.

Valor stared at the map for several moments.

Then he spoke.

"Then we will build new cities."

The official raised his head.

"New cities?"

Valor replied:

"Not one city."

He pointed toward vast areas of the map.

"Dozens of them."

He paused briefly.

"Perhaps even more."

Thorin looked over the map.

"With that many cities, the project will require an enormous workforce."

Valor answered calmly:

"That is why we will use everything we have."

He then looked at the official.

"Issue the mobilization order."

"Which group specifically?"

Valor's answer was simple.

"Everyone."

That same day, orders from the Supreme Council spread throughout Zeta.

But this time, the mobilization was not directed toward the military.

It was directed toward the farmers.

The council ordered farmers of every level to participate in the construction of the new cities.

The effort was no longer limited to construction workers, craftsmen, engineers, and practitioners of specialized building techniques.

Even farmers who had spent their entire lives working the fields were summoned to participate.

There were ordinary farmers.

Farmers of various cultivation levels.

And even farmers possessing immense strength, capable of accomplishing feats far beyond what ordinary workers could achieve.

The purpose was not to turn them into soldiers.

It was to make use of their strength, experience, and abilities to accelerate construction.

As soon as the mobilization orders arrived...

Thousands of villages and agricultural regions began to move.

Farmers temporarily left their fields.

They secured their storehouses.

Prepared their tools.

And headed toward their designated construction sites.

It was the first time in generations that such an enormous number of farmers had worked outside their lands for a single project.

On one of the vast plains, thousands of farmers arrived at a new construction site.

The area had once been nothing more than an empty stretch of land extending all the way to the horizon.

Now...

It had become a massive construction center.

A supervisor stood before the gathered crowds.

"We will not build just one city."

He pointed toward the enormous blueprint behind him.

"We will begin here by constructing a city capable of accommodating hundreds of thousands of people."

Murmurs spread through the crowd.

But the supervisor continued.

"And we will not work alone."

He raised his hand.

"Begin!"

The next moment...

Rumble...!

The earth trembled.

The farmers and practitioners of various abilities moved simultaneously.

Those with tremendous physical strength began moving enormous boulders.

Those with earth-related abilities began leveling vast stretches of land.

Some carved roads.

Others dug foundations.

And farmers possessing abilities related to plants used their powers to prepare the agricultural regions surrounding the city.

As for those at the higher levels...

They became some of the most important contributors to the project.

Tasks that would have required hundreds of workers could now be completed by a single individual in a short period of time.

What once required days...

Could now be accomplished within hours.

The Supreme Council did not build one city and then move on to another.

Instead, dozens of cities began rising simultaneously.

In the north...

A new city began to take shape.

In the south...

The walls of another city began to rise.

In the east...

Construction teams carved roads and laid foundations.

And in the west...

A massive city had already begun receiving its first buildings.

All of Zeta was transforming into a colossal construction site.

Everywhere...

The earth shifted.

Stones rose.

Roads stretched across the land.

Walls were erected.

And towers emerged from the ground.

The scene resembled nothing less than the reshaping of the entire continent.

But building the cities was only one part of the plan.

With millions of people arriving, they also had to be organized.

The Supreme Council established enormous registration centers at all major entry points.

Every family arriving in Zeta was registered.

The number of its members.

Their previous place of residence.

Their professions.

Their needs.

And, if they were practitioners, the abilities and cultivation levels of each individual.

Their appropriate place of residence was then determined.

Farmers were assigned to agricultural regions.

Craftsmen were directed toward cities that required their skills.

Merchants were sent to commercial districts.

Scientists and researchers were assigned to designated centers.

As for warriors and practitioners...

They began to be organized into defensive units responsible for protecting cities, caravans, and strategically important regions.

The goal was not merely to prevent chaos after humanity's return.

It was to build a society capable of functioning as a single unified entity.

In one of the ancient cities, a man watched a massive caravan of farmers leaving the city.

"Even the farmers have been mobilized."

His companion replied:

"I heard the council intends to build as many cities as possible before the deadline for the return expires."

The man looked toward the horizon.

Hundreds of carts were moving in the same direction.

Then he said:

"I have never seen humanity work like this since the day I was born."

"Neither have I."

The two fell silent.

Then the man spoke again.

"It seems the council knows something we don't."

His companion had no answer.

Because the same question was already running through everyone's minds.

Why all this haste?

Why all these preparations?

And why did the council want to reorganize all of humanity at this particular moment?

The days passed.

Then weeks.

And thanks to the enormous manpower that had been mobilized, the first new cities began approaching completion.

The walls rose high.

The roads were completed.

Residential districts took shape.

The first markets opened.

Warehouses were constructed.

Training facilities were established.

Defensive structures were also built around the cities to protect them.

And as soon as the essential sections were completed...

The first families began moving in.

Then thousands more followed.

Then tens of thousands.

A city that had not even existed a few weeks earlier...

Was now filled with life.

Children ran through the streets.

Merchants opened their shops.

Craftsmen began their work.

And farmers prepared to cultivate the lands surrounding the city.

These cities were not temporary shelters.

They were the foundations of new human communities.

Meanwhile...

Construction continued.

The completion of one city was never a reason to stop.

As soon as one city was finished, its construction teams moved on to the next stage, while other teams continued working at dozens of different sites.

Whenever one city appeared...

Another rose somewhere else.

One.

Then two.

Then dozens.

And as time passed...

Zeta began changing in a way no one had ever witnessed before.

The continent that had served as humanity's final homeland for thousands of years...

Was transforming into a vast and flourishing center of civilization.

At the headquarters of the Supreme Council, reports continued to arrive without pause.

Valor stood before the map once again.

But this time, the map looked completely different.

The number of empty regions had diminished considerably.

The markings now represented newly constructed cities.

Roads connecting them.

Ports.

Agricultural regions.

And military centers.

One of the officials spoke.

"The first phase of city construction has been completed."

He then added:

"Thanks to the mobilization of farmers from various levels, the construction rate has become three times faster than we originally anticipated."

Valor nodded.

"Continue."

The official hesitated.

"There has been a proposal to reduce the pace of construction once the first cities have stabilized."

Valor raised his gaze.

"No."

The official fell silent.

Valor looked toward the map.

"We do not have the luxury of slowing down."

He then added:

"Enormous numbers of people are still outside Zeta."

His voice remained calm.

"Build more."

"As many as possible."

"And in the shortest time possible."

The official bowed.

"Understood."

Then he left.

Valor remained standing before the map.

His eyes were calm.

But behind that calm...

There was something else.

He knew that the new cities were only the beginning.

Deep within the Sovereign Palace...

Far away from all of this...

The palace was immersed in silence.

The sounds of construction never reached its depths.

Fafnir knew nothing of the details unfolding outside the chamber.

He remained seated upon his black throne.

Cosmic energy continued to circulate around his body.

His appearance had returned to normal.

His long black hair flowed down his back.

His youthful and imposing face remained still.

His eyes were closed.

The restoration process continued.

[Restoration process ongoing.]

[Available cosmic energy: Sufficient.]

[Body condition: Stable.]

Fafnir did not move.

Humanity was rebuilding its cities.

The Supreme Council was reorganizing the population.

And he...

Was silently restoring his strength.

The soldiers did not know he existed.

Neither did the guards.

Nor the ordinary employees.

Nor most of the officials.

Only the Four Pillars and a very small group of officials knew that someone resided deep within the Sovereign Palace.

But even they...

Did not know all of his secrets.

To the rest of humanity...

Fafnir was merely a forgotten name buried within the pages of history.

The name of a sovereign who had vanished five thousand years ago.

No one knew that the sovereign...

Was still alive.

And that he was restoring his strength now.

More days passed.

The cities continued to rise.

And with every new city...

Zeta's capacity to accommodate humanity increased.

Humanity was preparing to welcome everyone.

The continent was changing at an astonishing pace.

But behind this enormous reconstruction...

There was another objective.

An objective unknown to ordinary humans.

The cities were not being built merely to house the returning population.

The reorganization was not simply a solution to a population crisis.

And the mobilization of the farmers was not merely a means of accelerating construction.

All of it was part of a much greater plan.

A plan the Supreme Council had given a single name:
