The Rebirth of Humanity

Chapter 29: The Final Preparations

The days passed quietly within Zeta.

Nothing suggested that anything extraordinary was about to happen.

The cities continued with their usual lives.

The factories remained in operation.

And the army continued training day after day.

But deep within the Sacred Land of Humanity...

Things were entirely different.

Inside the Sovereign Palace, in a vast hall drowned in silence, Fafnir stood before the enormous table occupying the center of the room.

A colossal map of Zeta hovered above it.

But it was no ordinary map.

It was a three-dimensional projection of energy, displaying the cities, industrial regions, military bases, training centers, aerial ports, and resource warehouses.

Dozens of glowing points moved across it continuously.

Footsteps approached the hall.

The Four Pillars entered.

War King Thorin.

Great Sage Valor.

Saintess Morgana.

And the White Lady Eleanor.

They stopped before Fafnir.

No one spoke at first.

They knew that being summoned at this stage could not be for an ordinary matter.

Fafnir lifted his eyes from the map.

He spoke calmly:

"The final stage is approaching."

Silence filled the hall.

Then he continued:

"I want a final report on everything concerning humanity's preparations."

Thorin stepped forward first.

His voice was steady.

"The army is ready."

He raised his hand.

The map changed.

Vast numbers of military units appeared across different regions of Zeta.

He said:

"The basic units have completed the required stages of training."

Various military formations then appeared.

"Infantry units, heavy units, reconnaissance units, and specialized units... are now capable of operating as a single system."

He paused for a moment.

Then continued:

"The forces have also been trained to fight in large-scale formations and to carry out orders under chaotic conditions and during prolonged warfare."

Fafnir looked at the map.

Then asked:

"What about their weaknesses?"

Thorin hesitated for a moment.

Then said:

"There is still a disparity between some units."

Fafnir raised his eyes toward him.

Thorin continued:

"Some soldiers are excellent in individual combat, but they need more time to adapt to large-scale battles."

"Other units are highly proficient at executing formations, but they are weaker when separated from the rest of the forces."

He fell silent briefly.

"And some commanders still lack real experience in managing large-scale battles."

Fafnir did not become angry.

Instead, a faint smile appeared on his face.

"Good."

Thorin looked at him in surprise.

Fafnir said:

"An army without weaknesses is an army that has never truly been tested."

Silence descended.

Then he said:

"Do not try to hide the army's flaws."

"Find them."

"Then fix them."

Thorin bowed.

"Understood."

Valor stepped forward.

He said:

"As for the fleet..."

The map changed again.

Dozens of luminous paths appeared across the sky.

Warships moved in massive formations above different regions of Zeta.

Heavy warships at the front.

Fast ships moving along the flanks.

Reconnaissance vessels positioned far from the main formation.

And supply ships moving behind the combat units.

Valor said:

"The fleet is capable of conducting joint operations."

He pointed toward a particular formation.

"The heavy warships can withstand intense fire for extended periods."

He shifted to another group.

"The fast ships can reposition rapidly and provide support to other units."

Then smaller vessels appeared.

"The reconnaissance ships can monitor vast areas and transmit information to command."

Then the supply ships appeared.

"As for the supply vessels, they can support the fleet for extended periods without the need to constantly return to their bases."

Fafnir asked:

"The weapons?"

Valor answered:

"They have been tested."

An image of a massive cannon appeared above the map.

"The primary systems are operating efficiently."

Then he added:

"Their energy consumption has also been improved compared to the initial models."

He paused.

"But there is still considerable room for development."

Fafnir looked at him.

"There will always be room for development."

Then he said:

"What matters is that the weapons are ready when we need them."

"Yes."

Eleanor stepped forward.

She carried no documents.

All the information was already stored in her mind.

She said:

"The resources are stable."

Several regions appeared on the map.

"Our mineral reserves are sufficient."

The image changed.

"Our energy sources are operating steadily."

Then enormous warehouses appeared.

"Food and essential materials are sufficient to meet the needs of the population and the army."

Then she added:

"Emergency reserves have also been established."

Fafnir asked:

"How long can humanity continue if a prolonged war breaks out?"

Eleanor answered without hesitation:

"We can continue for a long time."

Then she continued:

"We will not rely solely on our current reserves."

"Production is ongoing."

"Mining is ongoing."

"Agriculture is ongoing."

"And the factories are capable of replacing a significant portion of the resources we consume."

Fafnir looked at her for several moments.

Then said:

"Good."

As for Morgana...

She was the last to speak.

She said:

"The human side is stable."

Fafnir raised an eyebrow slightly.

She continued:

"The new generation has grown accustomed to the current system."

"The old divisions no longer pose the same problem they once did."

Then she added:

"The training centers have also recorded a clear increase in the number of new talents."

Multiple sets of data appeared before them.

Numbers of trainees.

Cultivation levels.

Specializations.

And various abilities.

She said:

"There are a large number of young people who have demonstrated excellent potential."

"Some in combat."

"Some in formations."

"Some in the manufacture of weapons and warships."

"And others in the fields of energy, medicine, and agriculture."

Fafnir silently examined the data.

Then said:

"Do not neglect a single talent."

"Even the weakest talent today may become a tremendous force tomorrow."

Morgana nodded.

"I will take care of it."

Silence descended once again.

Fafnir stared at the map before him.

Everything was proceeding as he had intended.

But that did not mean humanity had become invincible.

Quite the opposite.

He knew that true strength could not be built in merely fifty years.

There was an enormous difference between preparing for war...

And actually fighting one.

And so he said:

"I want one final test."

The Four Pillars looked at him.

Thorin asked:

"A test for the army?"

"For both the army and the fleet."

Silence filled the hall.

Then Fafnir continued:

"I want a large-scale military exercise."

A vast region far from the cities appeared on the map.

"The cities will not participate."

"There will be no civilians."

"You will not use your full strength."

Then he looked toward Thorin and Valor.

"I want the army and the fleet to act as though they are facing a real enemy."

Thorin smiled.

It was the first time in a long while that genuine excitement had appeared on his face.

"It will be done."

Several days later...

The test began.

In a vast region far from the cities, hundreds of military units moved across the ground.

And in the sky...

The warships began to appear.

One.

Then another.

Then dozens.

Then hundreds.

The ships formed different formations.

Heavy warships at the front.

Fast ships moving between the formations.

Reconnaissance vessels spreading out at a distance.

And supply ships maintaining a safe distance.

When the order was given...

The military exercise began.

The ground forces moved.

The fleet moved.

The formations constantly shifted.

Orders passed between the units.

The reconnaissance units began transmitting information.

Then the forces moved according to that information.

At first, the battle was organized.

But as time passed...

Chaos began to emerge.

Some units moved too quickly.

Others fell behind.

Some commanders misjudged the situation.

And some ships entered less-than-ideal positions.

The exercise was halted.

Orders were issued.

Then the exercise began again.

Once.

Then a third time.

Then a fourth.

And each time...

There were fewer mistakes.

The response was faster.

And the coordination became better.

The goal was not for humanity to become perfect.

It was to learn how to become better.

From an elevated observation platform, Fafnir watched everything.

The Four Pillars stood beside him.

Thorin said:

"There is a clear improvement."

Fafnir did not answer immediately.

He continued watching.

Then said:

"That is what we need."

Valor looked at him.

"Do you believe the army is ready?"

Fafnir answered:

"For battle..."

He paused for a moment.

"Yes."

Then continued:

"But real war is something else."

Silence followed.

None of them objected.

They understood what he meant.

An army could train thousands of times.

But nothing could equal real war.

A war in which there was no chance to try again.

A war in which every mistake meant someone's death.

That night...

Silence returned to the region.

The ships returned to their bases.

And the soldiers returned to their camps.

As for Fafnir...

He returned to the Sovereign Palace.

He entered his ancient hall alone.

He summoned no one.

He stood before the window.

The sky above Zeta was calm.

And the absolute seal still covered it.

Fafnir raised his hand.

He touched the empty space before him.

He could feel that immense barrier that had separated humanity from the outside world for fifty years.

Then he withdrew his hand.

He had no need to test it.

He knew perfectly well that the time was approaching.

It was so close that he could feel it.

He turned around.

And said quietly:

"Fifty years of preparation..."

Then he raised his eyes.

"The time has come to discover whether humanity is truly ready."

Silence filled the hall.

Then a faint smile appeared on his face.

The outside world knew nothing.

It did not know what had happened within Zeta.

It did not know the size of the army.

Nor the size of the fleet.

Nor the amount of resources humanity had accumulated.

Nor what awaited behind the seal.

And all of it remained hidden.

One day...

Then another...

Then another.

Until the appointed time drew near.

And Fafnir...

Waited patiently.

The construction phase was nearly over.

And the next phase...

Would not be training.

It would be the beginning of humanity's return.
