The Reincarnated Hitman

Chapter 106: Overdrive Vs Dune

BOOM!

A massive hand made completely of sand slammed into Overdrive’s previous location; fortunately, he managed to move quickly enough to avoid being crushed.

Unfortunately, though, he was surrounded by sand, which meant that he was at a disadvantage.

"What’s wrong, hero?" Dune spoke up with a smile on her face. "Having some trouble with my minions?"

Overdrive looked at the villain, noticing that she had formed some sort of reclining chair usually seen in pools and an umbrella above her, all of which were made from sand.

In her hand was a sealed bottle from which she drank some sort of juice through a straw.

For her, all this seemed like a relaxing field trip, and for good reason; after all, she was strong enough to create sand minions capable of keeping Overdrive at bay.

The hero jumped to the side, avoiding a hand that formed beneath him, trying to grab him.

But the moment he landed, the sand suddenly wrapped around his feet and before he had the chance to free himself,

BOOM!

A large sand club in the hands of one of the constructs suddenly slammed into him, launching him into one of the buildings.

Overdrive lay on the rubble of the wall he was launched into for a while, reorganizing his thoughts.

He was at a complete disadvantage thanks to the sandy environment. While his speed was enough to evade the constructs, it wasn’t enough to completely avoid all the sand.

Unless...

Standing up, he tapped the side of his visor and spoke, "Help me locate some fire hydrants."

[On it,] his agent responded, and the orb on his utility belt detached itself again and started scanning the area.

Soon enough, multiple locations lit up on the visor, and he nodded in satisfaction before walking out of the building.

"You’re quite resilient," Dune said with a smile as she looked at him. "I wonder if your stamina is just as impressive."

Instead of a reply, Overdrive launched himself towards her again, and she only let out a sigh. "Haven’t you realized that this won’t work? You’re currently in my domain."

Again, he didn’t respond as he quickly dodged an attack from one of the constructs and slammed his fist into another.

"Minus points for hot-headedness," Dunce said, "but suit yourself."

The next second, Overdrive felt it.

He felt a large amount of Pragma pooling beneath his feet, and he immediately realized what was about to happen.

Properly positioning himself, a massive hand made of sand suddenly formed beneath him.

Using the moment as the construct suddenly formed beneath him, Overdrive launched himself upwards, completely avoiding the hand and the constructs in his path.

Dune raised an eyebrow as she watched him continue in the opposite direction. "Running away already?"

Overdrive ignored her, and his gaze remained fixed on the locations highlighted on his visor.

She watched him with mild curiosity before casually raising a hand. "Stop him."

The sand below him erupted, but he managed to avoid it again, and he continued running forward.

Dozens of constructs clawed their way out of the ground, immediately giving chase.

A larger sand construct suddenly grabbed a much smaller one, swung it around and launched it at the running hero.

Before it could reach overdrive, his figure suddenly became a blur as he disappeared, causing the smaller construct to slam into a building and creating a massive hole within.

Overdrive, on the other hand, reappeared several meters away, and without slowing down, he continued toward his destination.

Dune’s smile slowly faded as she realized something: ’he’s not trying to reach me.’

She finally noticed where he was heading.

"The hydrants." Her eyes widened. "You’ve got to be kidding me."

Overdrive landed on the roof of a nearby building and immediately looked down at the street below. His visor highlighted a red marker directly beneath him.

FIRE HYDRANT: 8 METERS

He grinned, "Found you."

"Don’t you dare," Dune said with a dark frown on her face.

With the grin still on his face, Overdrive jumped off the building, and he noticed that the sand was trying to wrap itself over the hydrant.

Reinforcing his body, the hero positioned himself for a dropkick as he said, "Looks like there’s a ninety percent chance of rain today."

BOOM!

The sand immediately gave way as Overdrive’s dropkick slammed into the ground.

The impact shattered the pavement around the hydrant, sending chunks of concrete and sand flying in every direction.

But more importantly,

CRACK!

The hydrant broke free, causing a powerful jet of water to erupt from the pipe as it blasted directly into the surrounding sand.

Several nearby constructs were caught in it, and their bodies immediately began to lose their shape.

Overdrive landed in a crouch with water spraying across his suit, and he slowly rose to his feet and looked at the now soaked battlefield.

"Yep," he said with a chuckle, "the forecast was accurate."

Dune’s expression quickly changed from the previous flirty one to an annoyed one. "You little pest!"

She lifted her hand towards him, and the ground started trembling beneath them. Overdrive watched as the remaining sand gathered into a wave meant to swallow everything in its path.

It was then launched towards him, and he glanced at the approaching wave for a while before looking at the markers appearing across his visor.

FIRE HYDRANT: 42 METERS

A grin spread across his face as he called out, "Cyrus?"

[Yes?]

"How many hydrants are in this area?"

There was a brief pause before the agent responded, [Twenty-three in total.]

The hero’s grin widened as he muttered, "Perfect."

Dune watched the grin on his face and immediately realized that he was planning something.

The next second, Overdrive suddenly disappeared, and the next thing she heard was,

BOOM!

Then again, and again. Multiple explosions went off, and by the time she realized what it was, it was already too late.

A stream of water was soon shot into the approaching wave of sand, causing it to turn into mud.

With every explosion, more and more water was released into the air, causing all the sand around them to become mud, making it impossible for Dune to control.

Her instincts suddenly warned her of an incoming danger, and with the sand that had formed her chair and umbrella, she formed a wall.

And just in time, because the next second,

BOOM!

"I was hoping the water would distract you for a while," Overdrive’s voice was heard from the other end of the wall.

Dune tried trapping him within the sand, but he retreated quickly enough to avoid her attack.

"Now then," Overdrive had a smile on his face as he looked at the annoyed villain, "will you surrender, or do I have to force you to?"

"..."

Her frown suddenly transformed into a smile as she seemed to be listening to something for a while.

Dunce then looked at the hero in front of her before saying, "I guess my job here is done."

Overdrive frowned; unfortunately, she didn’t give him enough time to understand what she meant as she wrapped herself in a cocoon of sand.

He launched himself towards her, but the next second, the Cocoon exploded, forcing him to instinctively shield his face, despite wearing a visor.

When he put his arm down, Dune was completely gone. "Cyrus?"

[She seemed to have used a tunnel beneath the city, but I can’t seem to track her anymore,] Cyrus responded.

"And the ones previously in those tunnels?" He asked again with a frown.

[They’re also gone,] the agent said, [want me to send a drone to try and figure out where they escaped to?]

"It’s fine," Overdrive responded before turning around. "I have a feeling we’ll be seeing her again soon."
