"Are you okay?" Erode asked as she looked at Hypnos standing before her.
The two were currently out of the Splinter’s base, despite their leader’s warnings for them to lie low for now.
"Okay?" Hypnos let out a chuckle as he looked back at her. "I feel more than okay."
He then looked up at the night sky as a grin appeared on his face. "I’ve never felt so free."
,
"Thanks to Zero, I can finally see it now," Hypnos looked down at his palm before clenching it into a fist, "humans were built to be my puppets and their minds....my playground."
Erode silently looked at him, choosing to say nothing.
Ever since he woke up from the coma that the white-haired kid put him in, Hypnos had become a different person altogether.
He now saw everything and everyone beneath him, even her.
At first, she blamed this on the second awakening influencing his mind, but as more time went by, the more obvious it became,
Hypnos was always like this.
,
He had always looked at people as nothing more than puppets, and she had been an exception to this because he cared for her... or at least, he once did.
.
Hypnos suddenly turned towards Erode, held her chin and slowly leaned down. "Emotions are nothing more than strings that held me back from exploring your mind...I realize that now."
That’s right, thanks to his second awakening, thoughts were now just as loud to him as actual words were.
He then let go of her and turned back around before saying, "Shall we prepare to welcome our guests?"
The reason why the two were currently out of their base was quite simple: a mercenary had reported that they had managed to catch Zero and was willing to trade him in for the reward.
Erode still felt like this was some sort of trap, but the man before him, Hypnos, didn’t care.
,
He was certain that even if this was a trap, he could just mind-bend whoever set it... Even if it was a trap set by Zero.
Despite not being able to normally access the hitman’s mind previously, he was certain that it would be child’s play with his second awakening.
Soon enough, the sound of footsteps was heard, and from within the darkness of the warehouse they were currently in walked a tall man in a suit.
Hypnos narrowed his eyes as he looked at the man’s features.
He was bald with blue eyes, and he wore a white shirt and red tie beneath his suit. But what caught the attention of the splinter was the mercenary’s facial expression...or rather the lack of one.
His face seemed completely blank, and so was his mind.
"You must be the mercenary who caught Zero," Hypnos spoke, looking at the man’s face.
"You may call me Agent 46," the man introduced, "it’s a pleasure to meet you."
"Tell me, 46, why can’t I hear a single thought in your head?" Hypnos asked, his curiosity very evident in his tone.
"I believe my mind is not the main subject of this meeting, no?" Agent 46 said without a single change in his expression.
"Right," Hypnos said with a smile, "where’s Zero?"
Instead of a reply, 46 simply took out an object from his coat, one that seemed to be a glow stick, stepped to the side and tossed the broken light into the darkness.
to
The darkness gave way for the light from the glow stick, revealing a white-haired man tied to a chair.
Sensing the light, the white-haired man slowly lifted his head, revealing a face that was quite beaten up, but undeniably belonged to Zero.
"Oh, it’s you," the hitman spoke up with a smile as his eyes rested on Hypnos, "I see you’ve got quite the makeover."
Hypnos let out an amused chuckle, knowing that the kid was referring to his head. "No thanks to you."
"Is that so?" Zero muttered again before letting out a pained cough, which caused blood to drip down the side of his mouth.
But he ignored the blood and continued, "Perhaps I should stop being a hitman and work as a plastic surgeon instead."
Before Hypnos had the chance to respond, 46 spoke up, "This confirms that the target is successfully captured, right?"
"Ah, this bastard’s also here," Zero muttered as he looked at 46, but the man paid him no mind; instead, he continued looking directly at the two Splinters.
"Indeed," Hypnos nodded, an action that made Zero almost laugh since his head seemed a bit off balance.
Again, the hitman was ignored as Hypnos turned towards Erode and said, "Why don’t we have our friend here be on his way?"
’Kill him.’
Hypnos didn’t like the fact that there was someone whose mind he couldn’t read... Zero’s case was different since the Splinter was now curious enough about his mind.
Besides, now that he was captured, Hypnos would enjoy breaking his mind before killing him as thanks for the second awakening.
Erode simply nodded, walked towards 46 with a briefcase in hand, one that held the reward, but instead of handing it to the mercenary, she extended her hand.
"It’s a pleasure doing business with you."
Agent 46 looked at her hand for a while, ignored it, before looking towards the briefcase. His Intention was quite clear; he was uninterested in a handshake.
All he wanted was his money.
Erode frowned at this, but she still put on a smile and lifted the case towards him.
46 calmly reached for it, but before his hand could reach it, he suddenly jumped back and asked, "What are you doing?"
Erode’s other hand was now floating mid-air as she had the intention to touch him, but the damned mercenary was quicker than she thought.
"Oh?" Zero’s voice was suddenly heard again as he looked at the exchange between the two, "It seems they want to get rid of you, dear mercenary."
"Is that so?" There was still no change in his expression as he looked directly at Erode.
"No hard feelings," Hypnos said with a smile, "but if your mind cannot become my playground, then you have no reason to exist."
"Now, stay still."
The moment those words left Hypnos’ mouth, the mercenary’s body suddenly froze and despite how hard he tried, he couldn’t get it back under his control.
Erode slowly walked towards him before stopping just a small distance away from him and resting her hand on his cheek.
"Good bye."
With that, 46’s body suddenly turned grey and cracks started appearing on him. A couple of seconds later, he fades into dust, with not even a piece of him remaining.
"Damn, you two are quite cruel," Zero said as he watched the scene.
"Now then," Hypnos finally paid attention to him, "it’s your turn, Zero."
