The moment Higo stepped into the tunnel again, he couldn’t help but groan, stretching his stiff body while also narrowing his eyes slightly to avoid all the glimmering light outside. The massage that was given by the medical team worked like a charm, and while he still felt aches in some parts of his body, the boy felt like he was ready to go.
However, right before the boy could step further, he was stopped by someone who suddenly hugged his shoulder in a quite friendly manner.
"Hey, Wakabayashi-san, how are you doing? Ready for the second half?!"
Higo blinked for a moment, realizing who the person was. When he turned around, the boy smiled helplessly at the friendly grin that the opponent’s captain showed in this moment.
"Muller-san, should I be honored that even you yourself know about my little nickname?" He asked politely.
Yeah, the one who greeted him was none other than Thomas Muller, the opponent’s captain. Honestly, Higo had heard so many great things about that man, from his friendliness with everyone outside the pitch to his unquestionable professionalism inside the pitch.
Basically, he would be a beast that could kill anyone during the game, but he would also be the biggest Hello Kitty once the game was over. That was why Higo was only taken aback for a second before his reaction was neutral again, not feeling surprised that Thomas Muller would approach him like this.
"Hah! How could I not know that a goalkeeper in this league has been compared to my favorite Anime character?!" The man laughed boisterously. "Still, I didn’t expect that you would be this good. You even left Lewy stun-locked, getting the boss to scold him for the first time this year! Man, his expression is quite funny, you know?" He grinned mischievously.
Higo smiled wryly when he heard that. Honestly, he would love the thought of having a good chat with Thomas Muller, but the boy didn’t really have the luxury to do so right now. No, his team was still down by one goal, so him acting buddy-buddy with the opponent’s captain would only make him look bad.
However, before he could say anything else, Thomas Muller suddenly leaned his head slightly toward him and covered his mouth conspiratorially. "Well, you have done a great job so far, but you make Lewy and the rest of the team curious. I can tell you that it is a bad sign, you know? So, be careful and make sure you survive until the end. I kinda like you, you know?"
After that, the man walked away with a laugh, leaving Higo behind in a dumbfounded state.
’Yeah, he sure is a character, huh?’ Higo felt the corner of his lips twitching in amusement. However, this only lasted for one second before his expression gradually turned into a solemn one. ’Still, another challenge from Lewandowski. He sure is relentless, huh? And Muller-san said that the entire team also paid attention to me. Does that mean they would try throwing more rockets at me?’
Just thinking about this was enough to give him a headache. After all, Bayern Munich didn’t lack any player who had a good long-range shot, and if they started to focus on that, he would have to be forced to jump all over his own territory again.
’The second half will be a nightmare to survive...’
Soon enough, he finally walked onto the pitch. There, one player had already prepared on the sideline, getting ready to come in from the bench. It was none other than Omar Mascarell, a holding midfielder from Spain who was also the team’s original captain. He had been injured for more than two months, and this time, he was already good enough to come and help the team as a super sub.
The Spaniard came in to replace Jonas Hofmann as the boy got blown away so many times in today’s game. It wasn’t like Hofmann was bad, but the boy was not good enough to fight against Bayern’s monstrous midfielders.
However, that was not what Higo cared about right now. No, it was the liveliness on Schalke’s side, as if they were a bunch of little kids being told something good would happen and now they couldn’t wait to see what kind of good thing would appear.
’So, Frohling-sensei should’ve thought of something good as a solution, right?’ He drew a conclusion immediately. "Oi, Oz-san, what is the plan here? Do I need to do something to help?" He asked Ozan Kabak, who was warming up in front of the penalty box.
Ozan Kabak paused for a second before looking at Higo with a mixture of helplessness and envy. "Only you would be able to sleep in the middle of the meeting and get away from it, you know?" His tone was full of complaint.
"Eh, not my fault that I am that awesome." Higo grinned cheekily. "Anyway, is there anything that I need to do?"
The Turkish defender pondered for a moment before answering, "Not really. Just focus on Morita’s movement during your counterattack, and he will do the rest. The boss said that your task is to be our guardian angel, so you don’t need to think about any other messy things outside."
Higo couldn’t help but let out a slight sigh of relief. Even though he didn’t mind being a sweeper goalkeeper, the boy still preferred acting like a traditional goalkeeper here, only having to guard the goal without any stupid additional tasks in between.
Soon enough, all the players were finally ready on the pitch, with Fabian and Suat Serdar waiting in the center spot to start the game. The referee was also looking at his watch while also coordinating with the linesmen on the sideline, and the moment everything was ready...
FWEEE!
The second half of the game finally started with Schalke’s kick-off, and the first thing that the away team did here was to send the ball to Morita before the Japanese midfielder launched a long pass to the frontline immediately.
