Well, as everyone could expect, Bayern Munich started to play like a bunch of lunatics here. Their eyes were all red and bloodshot, wanting nothing but to score a goal as quickly as possible. Honestly, Higo felt like he had been facing a lot of opponents in his career, and yet this was the first time the boy got intimidated by the opponent’s eagerness to kill him.
"Shrink back! Fuck! Kenny, how many times do I have to tell you?!"
"Don’t get baited! Don’t get baited! Keep your position tight!"
"No! He is about to shoot!"
BAM!
Another threat was launched, this time by Joshua Kimmich. The holding midfielder managed to sneak from the half-space area, sending a low shot straight to the near post while also bypassing so many blockers in the process. It was fortunate that Higo reacted in time, diving to the ground while also using his right hand to block it away before Ozan Kabak came and cleared the ball as far as he could.
"Yes, Oz-san!" Higo roared, high-fiving the Turkish defender in front of him enthusiastically. "Trust me for the first shot, and get ready to snatch the rebound ball!"
Ozan Kabak also had his face flushed, as this was the first time he felt like he had worked so hard this season. Usually, when facing a strong opponent like Bayern, he would only show an attitude until the team conceded the first goal before giving up on everything.
However, this time, Higo gave him hope that maybe a miracle could truly happen, and the man wanted nothing more than to be a part of it right now.
Meanwhile, Bayern players also started to get a little bit impatient.
Yeah, a little bit.
After all, they had entered the 75th minute of the game, and honestly, a draw against a team that was still struggling in the relegation zone, especially when they played in their own home, was unacceptable.
Now, they even put two more offensive players, Serge Gnabry and Corentin Tolisso, to add gunpowder to the frontline. The first one was a speedy player, ready to kill Jonjoe Kenny further on the flank with his stamina, which was still quite full, while the latter was a creative player who could break the opponent’s defense with his imaginative play.
They both replaced Ivan Perisic, whose performance started to decline, and Leon Goretzka, who couldn’t offer any creativity in the pocket area, showing how eager the team was to get the lead back in hand.
Their offensive quality also increased by miles after that. More passes managed to find Lewandowski and Thomas Muller inside the penalty box, and Higo was also forced to go back and forth to protect his territory. Hell, he could see his arms were so red right now, having to cushion his fall after jumping so many times today.
Still, every single pain he suffered right now was worth the money, as he managed to keep the ball from crossing his line. So far, the boy had already made 15 saves, the most in this season in the Bundesliga, and they were still 15 minutes away from the game being over.
This was also another source of Bayern’s frustration, as Higo was so stubborn between the posts right now.
Then, to add salt to the wound, Frohling also decided to make more changes. After Omar Mascarell earlier, he put two more defenders on the back line, replacing Suat Serdar and Fabian Reese, who were the strikers today. The coach basically put all 11 of his players in the penalty box, forming a huge wall to deter all the attack.
This was the dirtiest and yet the most effective tactic to contain a behemoth like Bayern Munich, enough to make their hair grey.
"Fuck it! How could we not score here?!" Even Thomas Muller lost his friendliness, showing his angry German side that could scare the shit out of all the children in the stadium. "Lewy! Be more patient! Don’t just shoot whenever you have a slight chance! Wait for me and the others first!"
"You think I haven’t tried that?!" Lewandowski had a thick vein popping on his forehead. "We have tried everything, for God’s sake! He is doping, I tell you that!"
Of course, it was not a serious accusation. It was just adrenaline rushing right now that made them start saying so many nasty things in the air. Higo himself didn’t mind being pointed at like that. If anything, he welcomed them being furious like this, finding them to be quite tame when they lost their focus like this.
However, the rest of Bayern’s team was still quite calm, especially those who came from the bench.
Serge Gnabry really made it his mission to destroy Schalke’s left side. It didn’t matter whether there was one or two players guarding him, but he would always be able to beat them all with the combination of his speed and dribbling. If those weren’t enough, Alphonso Davies would also be able to help, overlapping from the sideline to add more pressure there.
However, Higo wasn’t that worried about them. After all, the flank area wasn’t as dangerous there, as long as the team’s defense didn’t show any space open for them to cut inside. No, it was Phillipe Coutinho whom he dared not lower his guard on, as the Brazilian man was so shifty in his movement.
He could be in the pocket area at one moment, trying to pry open the defensive line from the middle with his dribble, and in the next second, he could roam to the flank to add more numbers there, trying to overwhelm that side with numbers.
The most troublesome part was that Coutinho really possessed the ability to score from afar, so Higo would always ask Omar Mascarell to mark him tightly and never give him space to shoot.
However, that effort seemed to be quite futile, as the man also possessed a god-like ability in his dribble. This happened once again in the 83rd minute, when Coutinho managed to shake off Omar Mascarell’s defense with just a single body feint movement.
It didn’t look dangerous at first, but Higo widened his eyes in bewilderment the next second.
"SHIT! OZ-SAN! GET AWAY!"
BAM!
