The Rogue Villager Chen Erbao

Chapter 57: Heading to the City

Brother Long felt dizzy. He touched his head and his hand came away slick with blood. The darkness prevented them from even getting a clear look at their attacker, and they immediately lost their nerve.

"Go… Help me get away…"

The lackeys scrambled to help Brother Long up, then scurried away down the path in a panic.

Chen Erbao didn't bother chasing them. There was no need.

Besides, he had no intention of finishing them all off here.

He walked up to Chen Qing and stared at him coldly.

Chen Qing finally realized he was screwed and started to beg.

"Brother, I was wrong! Brother, I have money! Don't hit me…"

Before he could finish, the club in Chen Erbao's hand came down hard on his leg. The bone warped on impact, and the searing pain made Chen Qing pass out instantly.

Chen Erbao glanced around. This spot was a good distance from his house, so even if questions were asked, suspicion was unlikely to fall on him. He picked up the club and jogged home.

It was already eleven o'clock at night. Chen Dabao was long asleep, but Fang Yun heard a noise in the courtyard. When she went out to look, she saw Chen Erbao coming back, carrying a blood-stained club.

Her face immediately went pale with fright.

"Er Bao, what happened?"

Chen Erbao handed her the club.

"Sister-in-law, Chen Qing hired some thugs to ambush me on the road. I broke one of his legs."

"What!"

The news struck Fang Yun like a bolt from the blue. She froze for a moment, then became utterly terrified.

"This… what are we going to do? Will they arrest you?"

Chen Erbao, much calmer, reassured her.

"Don't worry, Sister-in-law. No one saw my face. Besides, he was the one in the wrong to begin with, so he won't dare make a big deal out of it. We just need to…"

He leaned in and whispered something in Fang Yun's ear, telling her to get rid of the club the next day. Then he went to his room to sleep.

Fang Yun returned to her room, woke up Chen Dabao, and they started discussing what Chen Erbao had told her.

Early the next morning, Chen Erbao took his burlap sack and left for the county town.

Lin Zhiqing was waiting for him. They had to go into the city today to meet with the senior management of Medicine King Hall.

He arrived in Cyan Mountain Town a little after ten in the morning. He knew the way to Medicine King Hall by heart, and he pushed open the door and went inside.

"Oh, Mr. Chen, you're here! Please, have a seat. Xiaoliu, go get the Shopkeeper."

The bald man saw Chen Erbao and rushed to greet him. He knew this was a major client for Medicine King Hall—a single transaction was worth seven or eight hundred thousand!

"Here's one hundred kilograms of Gastrodia. Check it."

Chen Erbao's mind was still on the events of the previous night. He tossed the burlap sack onto the floor, took the offered teacup, and chugged the contents.

Before long, the CLICK-CLACK of high heels echoed from outside.

Lin Zhiqing pushed the door open and entered, her gaze falling on Chen Erbao.

Today, she wore a white blouse, its fabric stretched taut over her full bust. Below, she had on a black, form-fitting skirt, and her long, slender legs were encased in black stockings. She looked every bit the professional career woman.

'If she just had a pair of glasses, it would be perfect!' Chen Erbao thought to himself.

Noticing Chen Erbao's leering gaze, Lin Zhiqing couldn't help but let out a cold snort. She then turned her attention to the burlap sack on the floor and stepped forward to inspect it.

"Shopkeeper Lin, it's indeed one hundred kilograms of Gastrodia!" the bald man, having finished weighing it, confirmed from the side.

Lin Zhiqing nodded in satisfaction, her expression softening slightly.

"Store this in the warehouse and transfer the payment to Mr. Chen's account."

"Yes, I'll get right on it!"

The bald man and his subordinates hoisted the Gastrodia and immediately left to take care of it.

The moment the bald man was gone, Chen Erbao's cheeky grin returned.

"Zhiqing, it's been a few days. Did you miss me?"

"Tch! It's only been one day, and no, I did not!"

With a frosty expression, Lin Zhiqing sat down across from Chen Erbao and crossed her long, elegant legs.

"Such a tough act. If you didn't miss me, why were you screaming so loud the other day?"

Chen Erbao was tempted to feel the texture of her stockings, but he decided against it, fearing she might smash the teapot over his head.

At Chen Erbao's words, Lin Zhiqing's face flushed crimson, the blush spreading all the way down her fair neck. She glared daggers at him.

"Don't you dare bring that up again!"

"Alright, alright, I won't."

Seeing that she looked ready to pounce and bite him again, Chen Erbao threw his hands up in surrender.

Only then did Lin Zhiqing let it go.

"Since you've brought the Gastrodia, we can head to the city now. I've already made the arrangements and booked the hotel. When we get there, you can discuss future purchasing arrangements with them at your leisure—for instance, whether you want a profit-sharing deal or a direct buyout."

"Sounds good. I'm ready."

Chen Erbao had already gone over the details with Fang Yun.

"Let's go."

The two got into Lin Zhiqing's BMW and set off toward the city.

Cyan Mountain Town might be underdeveloped, but the county town was quite decent, and Hongyuan City was on another level entirely.

While it couldn't compare to a global metropolis like Binhai City, Hongyuan City was still considered a famous first-tier city in the country's interior.

It had a developed economy and a skyline filled with towering buildings.

Chen Erbao had passed through while he was in college and had dreamed of one day owning a place in the city.

Unfortunately, with housing prices at 20,000 back then, he didn't dare to entertain such a dream for long.

Later, he considered buying a house in Sihai County, but even at 8,000, it was out of his reach. In the end, he remained in the village.

It was a little after one in the afternoon when they finally entered the main urban area.

"You must be hungry. We're almost there. Medicine King Hall rents an entire building in the city center, and they've already prepared a meal for us. We can eat as soon as we get there," Lin Zhiqing said to Chen Erbao, who was sitting in the passenger seat.

"With a feast for the eyes right here, I'm not hungry."

Chen Erbao turned in his seat, his eyes roving over Lin Zhiqing, his words as provocative as ever.

Lin Zhiqing was already used to his forwardness. She just rolled her eyes at his comment and ignored him.

A short while later, the car pulled up in front of a towering skyscraper. They got out and took an elevator straight to the top floor.

"Second Uncle!"

"Zhiqing, you're back! And this must be Mr. Chen, our Gastrodia supplier. Please, come in!"

A middle-aged man's eyes lit up when he saw Lin Zhiqing and Chen Erbao, and he walked over to greet them.

'I can't believe this Medicine King Hall executive is Lin Zhiqing's uncle,' Chen Erbao thought, surprised. 'No wonder she became the shopkeeper in Cyan Mountain Town at such a young age! So it was all about connections!'

The three walked into a bright office, and the man introduced himself.

"Mr. Chen, my name is Lin Cheng, and I'm the head of Medicine King Hall's operations in this city. I want to thank you for that last batch of Gastrodia. It solved a very pressing problem for us!"

"You're too kind. Medicine King Hall has a stellar reputation, so of course, I'd choose to partner with you!"

"Second Uncle, can we chat later? We haven't eaten yet," Lin Zhiqing reminded him from the side.

Lin Cheng slapped his forehead.

"Haha, I almost forgot! In that case, Mr. Chen, shall we eat first?"

"Sounds good!"

Led by Lin Cheng, they made their way to the dining hall.

The Medicine King Hall dining hall was quite luxurious, complete with private dining rooms.

Naturally, someone of Lin Cheng's status would host a client in one of the private rooms.
