"It won’t fry if the math holds," Elias said calmly.

The bathyscaphe settled onto the bronze conduit with a heavy, metallic thud, its magnetic landing skids clamping firmly onto the non-ferrous alloy through high-frequency static attraction. A tremendous, muffled THUUUUM echoed through the depths, shaking the bathyscaphe violently in its clamps. The violet energy field flared to near-blinding intensity, absorbing the enormous kinetic momentum of the fluid and converting it into a harmless, glowing pulse of localized ionization that rippled through the surrounding water.

Slowly, the violent shuddering of the hull subsided. The deafening roar inside the bronze pipe faded back into a smooth, steady, liquid hum.

The bathyscaphe held its position. The obsidian floor remained intact, and the bronze conduit continued its silent, continuous work of balancing the world’s oceans.

In the cabin, the copper induction cable cooled from red-hot to dull brown, emitting a faint wisps of scorched rubber smoke. Elias let out a slow, measured breath, reaching down to stroke Lira gently between her ears. Her crystal faded back to a calm, steady jade, and she let out a soft, satisfied purr.

Jacob wiped a thick layer of sweat and oil from his forehead with his sleeve, leaning against the ladder frame with a shaky laugh. "Tell me we don’t have to do that for every valve on the ocean floor, Elias."

Elias stood up, adjusting the silver slide rule clipped to his work coat as he looked out into the vast, dark abyssal plain stretching toward the east.
