{Ayaka’s POV}

Mr. Aizawa had us change into our hero costumes for training at Training Ground Bravo. We were split into two teams, and Sekai and I were separated. I scowl very similarly to Kai-chan. Of course. I hate this, but at least I managed to swipe a jawbreaker before we began. That should keep me in check for now. My team: Ida, Yaomomo, Ochaco, Tsu, Midoriya, Kaminari, Tokoyami, Todoroki, Kirishima, and Bakugo. I keep quiet, clearly annoyed that I'm not with my Kai-chan.

Ida stands in front of the class. "Since I am the class representative, I was designated the leader of Team A. It is our duty to complete this rescue swiftly, so we do not bring shame to UA. We need to do our absolute best today." He continues, starting to lose Kaminari and Kirishima, who have only one brain cell shared between them. Yaomomo chimes in, "I understand that everyone is excited, but it is important for us to analyze our current situation carefully. Only then can we effectively plan."

Ida adds with a hint of relief, "You see, guys? Yaoyorozu understands what I mean." Yaomomo produces a device that projects a hologram of the building and explains, "Two hours ago, a fire broke out on the bottom floor of a large underground shopping mall. Fortunately, the inferno was extinguished, and most of those present were evacuated. However, we have just received word that one person is still somewhere inside this building who needs assistance." Ida resumes, "Our mission is to rescue that citizen as quickly and safely as possible. For training purposes, the ‘citizen’ will be a training dummy."

Yaoyorozu takes over, saying, “Damage from the fire has taken out the underground power lines, but the backup generator is fully functional.” Ochaco, looking at the hologram, says, “That is reassuring. It will be a lot easier to look for them with the lights on.” Tokoyami raises his hand, “This boils down to a race against the clock. I propose we split up into teams.” Midoriya, checking his cell phone, says, “Hey, this is weird, but I am not getting any kind of phone signal out here.” We all check our phones and verify that there is no signal. Midoriya adds, “I am guessing that this isn’t a coincidence that our most common form of communication is not an option for this exercise.”

Todoroki says with that ‘dreamy’ (Toru’s words, not mine) voice of his, “Well, if that is the case, then we will need a rendezvous point as well as a meet-up time.” Tsu says, “This mall has six underground floors. What if we went down the central stairwell and searched the first level, B1, in teams? We can meet back at the stairs 10 minutes later, then sweep each floor the same way until we find the person who needs to be rescued.” Once we agree on the plan, Bakugo just goes off on his own, saying with his usual intensity that he is going to save the dummy, and Kirishima and Kaminari go with him… We could have seen that coming a mile away.

Ida tries and fails to stop Bakugo, but he always does what he wants, regardless of the team. He is very talented, but also conceited and uncooperative. Yaomomo discusses with the rest and splits us into teams based on quirk compatibility. Midoriya, Ochaco, and Tsu form one team. Todoroki, Tokoyami, and I form another, while Yaomomo and Ida pair up. Midoriya starts nerding out about everyone’s quirks and the team dynamics, but Ochaco distracts him by reaching for his hand. He goes from rambling to blushing and short-circuiting while my team and Yaomomo’s head inside to begin our search, leaving Team Midoriya at the start.

As we search, Todoroki holds a flame in his left hand to light the way. Todoroki looks at me directly. "What's wrong, Kubo? You've been silent too long." I exhale sharply, hand to my chest. "I just hate being separated from Kai-chan. Everything feels dull without her by my si-" Suddenly, the ground shakes, cutting off my sentence. The ceiling crumbles above us. Without hesitation, I grab them and pull us into 5D—no room for delay here. Todoroki flashes an ice beam to reinforce the weakened ceiling, catching the situation fast. I get us clear of the collapse, and now, one side is totally blocked off.

We decided to shelter in place in case it was an earthquake. After several minutes, Todoroki notes, "Due to the lack of aftershock, it is safe to say that the building’s structure has been compromised." Tokoyami suggests, "There is no way the training exercise will continue now. We should just remain here and wait to get rescued."

I say, missing the taste of my jawbreaker (specifically, Kai-chan’s taste), “That seems like victim language, and I don’t think I am ready to be considered a victim yet.” There’s a tightness in my chest as I speak, a mix of defiance and longing. Todoroki chimes in, “Also, it could also be a part of the exercise to see how we handle a secondary disaster. So, standing in place might prevent us from passing the exercise. That, and our classmates might need help as well.” Todoroki turns to me and asks, “Will you be able to use your quirk, Kubo?” I feel my nerves spike at the question, but I nod, “I feel flustered enough wearing my costume to be able to use my quirk. Though it does take a little more focus without Kai-chan’s jawbreaker. So, I won’t be able to activate it as quickly as when I pulled us out of the rubble.” They nod, understanding my hesitation and limitations, and I grab them and go into 5D.

We ran into Midoriya, Ochaco, and Tsu first. They seem to be grabbing rubble and clearing a path. Due to the amount of rubble in the way, I can’t see through it as I could normally see through a wall. They stop when they see us pop into 3D, and Midoriya perks up when he sees me, “Kubo, we need you! Ida is hurt on the other side of this rubble, and you would be able to rescue him faster!” I smile and give a thumbs up, “Too easy.” Todoroki says, “I’ll go with you. You will probably need an extra set of hands.” Tokoyami chimes in, “I will join you as well, since Todoroki can keep my dark shadow in check in this dark environment.” Midoriya sighs in relief, “I will leave him to you. We will go check on Kacchan.” With that, Midoriya, Tsu, and Ochaco ran to find Bakugo.

We go our separate ways. I take Todoroki and Tokoyami with me into 5D and lead them through the rubble. On the other side, Ida is unconscious, and his costume helmet is a decent distance away from his body. His leg looks to be in bad shape as well. Yaomomo has performed first aid using supplies she made with her quirk, so his head and leg are wrapped in bandages. She explains, "He took a bad hit to the leg protecting me from the falling rubble, and then he took a bad hit to the head." He starts to stir and says, pained, "W-w-we … have to hurry… and save… them…"

Todoroki places a hand platonically on Ida’s shoulder. "You have done enough, Ida. You rescued Yaoyorozu, now it is our turn to rescue you." Yaomomo makes a portable gurney for us to carefully put Ida on. Tokoyami suggests, "Assuming that the elevator shafts haven’t caved in, that would be the quickest way to the surface if we quirk walked carefully." Yaomomo nods. "That sounds like a plan. Let’s make our way to the nearest elevator." Todoroki holds Ida at the head, Tokoyami at his feet, and I use a few tentacles to support them in the center for stabilization. Yaomomo has her hologram of the building layout up as I use my ultimate to phase through the rubble toward the elevator shaft.

We have to get creative in the elevator shaft and start off very slowly to prevent further injury to Ida. I get on the furthest wall first and use my tentacles to support Ida while Todoroki carefully gets on the wall to my right and Tokoyami on my left. They move slowly to keep control of the gurney. Yaomomo is below us just in case something happens.

As we quirk-walk carefully up, we see light peering in through the closed safety doors, as if the power had been restored. Todoroki observes, "Denki must have found a way to restore the power. Yaoyorozu is here, couldn’t have given him the idea, and we just saw Midoriya, so it couldn’t have been him. Given the information, it had to be Bakugo." Makes sense, since Kaminari only has one brain cell. Bakugo is very good at thinking on his feet in times like these.

At the shaft’s top, there’s an opening up to the surface—about 100 meters. Perfect for Ochaco, but there’s no way to call her. Tokoyami steadies Ida. "Ideas?" I answer decisively. "We’ll use my ultimate. In 5D, what I carry follows my rules. Flying all of us will push me to the limit, but I’ll go Plus Ultra." Todoroki nods. "We’re counting on you, Kubo." I focus, channel energy, and after a moment, take everyone up into 5D.

I carefully raised us, slowly flying out of the giant, multilevel hole. Yaomomo says in amazement as we travel in the fifth dimension, “Wow, I didn’t know you could fly, Ayaka!” Mr. Aizawa then realizes we escaped and is currently underneath us with Recovery Girl, catching our attention and asking, “Kubo, how many do you have with you?” Yaomomo says on my behalf, since I am focusing on getting them to safety, “Todoroki, Tokoyami, Ayaka, and most importantly, Ida, who was injured saving me.” Mr. Aizawa then responds with that same depressed tone of voice, “Continue up and stabilize Ida safely. I will go up there and join you with Recovery-Girl, so she can administer aid.”

I am starting to feel dizzy from making this many people fly in my space, and Yaomomo places her hand on my shoulder as we continue to fly carefully, “You are almost there, Ayaka! Just a little further!” Everyone is counting on me. If I drop them now, everyone will get hurt, and Ida will probably die.

I CAN’T LET THAT HAPPEN!

I start to feel light-headed near the end. I can’t lose consciousness now!

Go beyond, PLUS ULTRA!

I push as hard as I can, but my body fails me, and I say as my eyes start to forcefully close, “I am sorry, my friends.” As I said that, my eyes closed against my will from overexerting myself with my quirk.

When I woke up, the training exercise was over. Todoroki and Tokoyami used their quirks to finish the rescue after I fainted. Yaomomo made an obscenely large rope ladder so our classmates could get out of the gaping hole more easily, and Ochaco and Tsu saved Kaminari, Kirishima, and Bakugo when the bottom floors started flooding. Ochaco used the Psychic quirk she has, which she misunderstood as an evolution of her zero-gravity quirk, to raise them to safety, while Tsu used her tongue, and Midoriya used his massive strength to forge a path for their escape.

As our team was leaving the training ground, Sekai’s group was coming onto the field. Sekai wasted no time, teleporting to my side and hugging me. I squeeze her back, “I missed you, too, Kai-chan.” She grips the back of my hero costume and asks, “Are you ok? You look pale.” I reply by gently squeezing her and say, “I am loads better seeing you, Kai-chan.”

Toru pulls her off me, “Come on, Sekai. Time for training.” Toru pulls Sekai against her will as their group goes into the training ground (Obviously, a different building). Sato helps Toru since Sekai was trying to pull herself away, and now Sekai’s feet are dragging on the ground as she pouts. Sekai says in an adorably pouty tone, “B-but Toru. I -” Toru giggles and cuts her off, “You know that if you go back to her, you will abandon the training exercise to spend time with her.” Toru giggles, and Kai-chan sighs in defeat, and her pout turns more grumpy than pitiful as she continues to get dragged away.

{Sekai’s POV}

Grrrrrrrrr.

I just wanted a bit more time with Aya-chan… She was right, though. There was a high chance I would run with Aya-chan. This fucking training exercise. I am going to do this shit faster than anyone before me to get back to Aya-chan’s side. They stop dragging me, and Toru asks, “If I let you go, will you stay, Sekai?” I smack my teeth, “Tsk. I will stay.” She asks again, unsure, “Are you sure?” I groan, “Uggggh. Come on, Toru, I already fucking said I will stay. Now let’s kill this fucking exercise so I can get back to Aya-chan.” Both Sato and Toru release me, and I stand on my own two feet. Mr. Aizawa says, “Due to unforeseen structural issues with the previous training site, we will be using a similar site so the base conditions of the exercise can still be the same.”

He points to this building, and he says, “This here is a building with a multi-level underground spa. In this scenario, due to an earthquake, part of the structure collapsed, and everyone was rescued except for one individual. Your team's task is to save that individual. For training purposes, the individual in question is a dummy. However, I expect you to treat that dummy like it is the real thing.” He turns back to the class and says, “As for who should be team leader… Shoji, I’ll leave them in your hands.” Shoji looks surprised that he was chosen, and he asks Mr. Aizawa, “Wouldn’t Jiro be a better choice to be the team leader? She placed higher than I did in the midterms.”

Mr. Aizawa sighs as if tired of explaining, “There is more to my selection than just grades. Use this as an opportunity for experience.” Shoji nods and asks, “How many levels is the underground spa, Mr. Aizawa?” Mr. Aizawa says, “I won’t give you that information since I didn’t provide it to the other team either. In some situations, you won’t know the specifics going in, and you need some experience now before you freeze when every second counts. Every hero needs to be able to adapt.”

Toru asks me, “Can’t you use your ultimate to take us directly to the dummy, Sekai?” I shake my head, “Well, technically I could, but that wouldn’t be smart.” Shoji asks, “Whoa, you have an ultimate that could take us straight to the victim? Why can’t we use it, Sekai?” I sigh and say, “I wouldn’t know what we are teleporting into if I use it, and there is a good chance one of us could get hurt because of the building falling apart. Isn’t the safety of heroes also important?.... That, and my ultimate is embarrassing and not exactly school-friendly…” Shoji puts his hand to his chin and looks like he remembered when we first returned from being lost, since his eyes widened, “Ok, I understand. We will have to take this one floor at a time, then. Since elevators are likely not functioning properly after the earthquake, the stairs will be our way to navigate between floors at the spa. Due to an innocent being at risk, time is of the essence, so I suggest we split up into teams to search.” That is so embarrassing to think about.EVERYONE IN CLASS 1-A SAW ME ORGASM BACK THEN. I pull my hoodie down to cover my extremely embarrassed face.

He looks around at us, and he and Jiro whisper to each other and nod, and he says, “Ok, team one will be Ojiro, Ashido, Koda, and Sero. Team two will be Aoyama, Sato, and me. Team three will be Sekai, Jiro, Hagakure, and Mineta. I suggest each team picks a floor to search and …” He pulls out his phone and says, “Ok, it seems that phones won’t be an option to communicate. We will communicate in the central stairwell, and we will meet up every five minutes for a status update. I figured we can make the meet up time quicker since every team has a scout.” We nod, and I say, “Our group will start at the bottom-most floor and work our way up.” I pop a jawbreaker in my mouth, and I hold my teammates and teleport us inside.

We are the first team in, and we don’t know where the stairs are. We look around in the dim light from the backup generator, and Jiro says loudly to alert us, “Found the stairs!” To help our classmates behind us, Toru is helping Jiro make the stairs more noticeable by dragging things near the stairs to bring attention to them. I teleport to the receptionist desk, where they have markers and pens, and I steal a marker to write on a sign near the entrance pointing to the stairs, where my team is dragging potted plants and other things that point to the stairs. I teleport back to them and say, “I think that is good enough. Anymore, and they may think we are patronizing them.” Toru laughs, “You would have been right if Bakugo were on our team.

We all enter the stairwell by the time the next team enters the building. I hold everyone and teleport us down each flight of stairs quickly until we can’t go any lower, and we start our search. Thankfully, the ‘earthquake’ didn’t cause any significant damage to this stairwell. We leave the stairwell and search the floor, and it appears that this floor has artificial hot springs. We split up to cover more ground, and I do a lot of short teleports to speed things up and reach the furthest areas. Toru teases Mineta, “This is your time to go into the women’s bath, Mineta.” He sighs, “So cruel to say when you know how hard it has been for me to change.

Toru stops laughing, “Way to kill the vibe, being serious. I was only making a joke.” Mineta says, “Tsk. Aren’t jokes supposed to be funny?” Jiro chimes in as they search, “Every joke has an audience, as they say.” I finish searching the furthest areas of these baths without finding the dummy, then go back to the others who are finishing up. Turns out the dummy wasn’t on this floor, and right before we go into the next floor, Jiro says, “It is almost five minutes exactly. We probably should go meet our classmates.” I wanted to search more to finish this shit already, but I sigh and wrap my skin around everyone, teleporting us up to find our classmates and continue this training exercise.
