[House Vaelric — Later]

The audience hall stood in absolute silence. Morning light poured through the towering stained-glass windows, illuminating the banners of House Vaelric that hung proudly from the stone walls.

Rows upon rows of knights stood in perfect formation. Imperial Royal Knights. House Vaelric Knights. Royal officials. Imperial scribes and every witness required by the laws of Qashmar had gathered. Not a single soul dared whisper.

Then—

Clank.

The massive doors slowly opened as a knight clad in gleaming silver armor entered the hall. Upon his breastplate rested the crest of the Imperial Crown. Following several steps behind him came two royal scribes carrying an ancient crimson chest engraved with the crest of the First Emperor.

The captain stopped several paces before Kael. Without hesitation...he lowered himself onto one knee, his head bowed deeply.

"Your Highness," his voice echoed throughout the silent hall. "I, Cedric Ardan, Captain of the Imperial Royal Knights...have come under the authority of the Imperial Council."

The two scribes stepped forward and carefully unlocked the crimson chest.

Click.

The lid slowly rose. Inside...rested a single scroll. Its parchment was unlike ordinary paper. Snow-white, ancient, and bound by silver thread. Upon its surface shimmered the Imperial Seal of Qashmar.

The Royal Decree of Ascension. A document that had crowned every emperor for nearly two thousand years. Sir Cedric accepted the parchment with both hands before raising it respectfully toward Kael.

"By decree of the Imperial Council and by acknowledgment of the Seven Great Houses...and by the sacred judgment of the Spirits..."

He drew a slow breath.

"We humbly request...that Lord Kael Vaelric accept the Imperial Throne...and become the next Emperor of Qashmar."

The hall fell into complete silence. Every eye turned toward Kael. Grand Duke Lior stood quietly beside his son; his expression remained calm...yet pride quietly filled his eyes. A royal scribe stepped forward, presenting an ornate silver fountain pen.

"The Imperial Decree awaits Your Highness’s answer."

Kael slowly accepted the pen, his amber eyes lowered toward the parchment. Across the final line...only one space remained empty.

Name of the Sovereign.

The room seemed to stop breathing: one heartbeat, two, and three. Then...Kael placed the pen upon the parchment. The sound of ink flowing across ancient paper was astonishingly quiet.

Yet within the silent hall it echoed louder than thunder.

Stroke...after stroke...after stroke... Until at last—

Kael Vaelric.

The final letter settled upon the parchment. The Imperial Seal immediately burst into brilliant silver light. The ancient document acknowledged its new sovereign.

For a heartbeat the entire hall remained frozen.

Then—

CLANG!

Every Imperial Knight struck the hilt of his sword against the marble floor. The sound thundered like a hundred war drums. At the same instant every royal knight, every House Vaelric knight, and every official within the hall...including Grand Duke Lior, lowered themselves into the deepest bow permitted under Imperial Law.

Not a respectful nod, not a kneel, a bow reserved...for only one person in the entire empire.

The Emperor.

Their united voices shook the very walls of House Vaelric.

"Glory to His Imperial Majesty!"

"Long live the Emperor of Qashmar!"

"May the Red Wolf lead the Empire into a new era!"

The echoes rolled through every corridor. Outside...servants stopped in their tracks. Knights stationed in the courtyard immediately knelt.

Even the banners of House Vaelric seemed to dance proudly in the morning wind. Kael stood motionless, the silver parchment still rested within his hands. His gaze slowly swept across the hundreds of bowed figures before him.

Only yesterday...he had been the heir of House Vaelric. Today...the entire Empire had acknowledged him as its sovereign.

Grand Duke Lior was the last to move; he stepped forward. Then...before every noble, every knight, and every witness present, the Grand Duke of House Vaelric lowered himself onto one knee.

He bowed his head before his own son; his voice was steady. Filled not only with loyalty...but with the pride of a father.

"House Vaelric..." He placed his right fist over his heart. "...pledges its eternal loyalty...to His Imperial Majesty...Kael Vaelric."

Kael stood motionless as his amber eyes slowly swept across the sea of bowed figures before him. For the first time...he understood. There was no returning to yesterday; the road behind him...had disappeared forever.

The only path left...was forward. Toward the throne. Toward the Empire and toward a future from which there would be no retreat.

After several moments...Captain Cedric Ardan slowly rose to his feet; he stepped forward before lowering his head once more.

"Your Imperial Majesty..." His respectful voice echoed gently through the chamber. "The Imperial procession has arrived. The nobles, the high priest, and the representatives of the Seven Great Houses...have already gathered within the Imperial Palace."

He paused before continuing.

"The coronation ceremony awaits only one person." He looked up respectfully.

"You."

Another respectful bow. "The royal carriage has been prepared. If it pleases Your Majesty...it is time to depart with your mate."

Kael remained silent, his fingers slowly tightening around the Imperial Decree. Then...almost absentmindedly his eyes drifted toward the entrance.

"...Will...will my mate accompany me?"

Kael slowly nodded.

"I understand." He handed the Imperial Decree back to the royal scribe before speaking quietly. "Please wait outside."

Captain Cedric immediately bowed. "As Your Majesty commands."

"Imperial Knights!" His commanding voice rang throughout the hall. "Escort formation. Move!"

CLANG!

Every Royal Knight struck a fist against their breastplate before bowing deeply. "Yes, Your Majesty!"

Within moments the hall emptied. The thunder of armored footsteps gradually faded into the distance. Until...only two people remained.

A father and his son.

Silence lingered between them. Grand Duke Lior smiled gently, simply...as a father.

"...Tell me honestly." His voice was soft. "Are you afraid?"

Kael looked toward the stained-glass windows where sunlight streamed across the marble floor.

"...No." A faint smile touched his lips. "Not afraid, only aware. The weight resting upon my shoulders...is heavier than I imagined."

His amber eyes wandered toward the distant Imperial Palace. "But...this is the road you taught me to walk."

He smiled, a quiet...almost nostalgic smile.

"You never taught me how to rule. You taught me how to serve." His gaze slowly hardened with quiet resolve. "You always said a crown is never a reward. It is a responsibility. And if becoming emperor grants me the chance to protect even one more village, one more child, and one more family...then I shall accept that burden willingly. I shall carry it...until my final breath."

Grand Duke Lior’s eyes softened. For a brief moment...he no longer saw the future emperor of Qashmar. He saw the little boy who had once stumbled through the training grounds with a wooden sword far too large for his hands.

The boy who had insisted on protecting everyone...even then, a quiet chuckle escaped him. "...You’ve grown."

He stepped forward. Then...without caring who might witness it, he rested one hand upon Kael’s head. Just as he had done countless times during Kael’s childhood.

"My son, no matter how high your throne may stand...or how heavy your crown becomes, never forget." His voice grew firm. "You will never bear it alone. I am your father. I stood beside you before the Empire knew your name. I shall stand beside you...long after the cheers have faded."

He smiled warmly.

"So whenever the burden becomes too great...come home. This house...will always remain your home."

Kael felt his chest tighten; he lowered his head slightly. "Thank you... Father."

Another silence settled between them. Then Kael slowly turned toward the corridor leading deeper into House Vaelric, toward his private chambers. His gaze lingered upon the familiar hallway.

"...I’ll return shortly."

Grand Duke Lior gave a reassuring nod. "I’ll be waiting."

Without another word. Kael began walking toward the chamber where the Lord of Darkness might or might not be waiting for him.
