The Sky Was Never Young: Vampire System Apocalypse
Chapter 19: The Charming Monster’s Identity: Ruthless GraceThe severed rope whipped through the air, and the heavy royal blade continued to spin violently on the polished floor, its metal screeching and throwing sparks against the solid gold. In the distance, oblivious to the sudden violence at the center of the hall, clusters of elite nobles were still laughing, their cruel, high-pitched amusement echoing off the grand pillars.
In a fraction of a second, the magical lights overhead snapped completely off. The massive, infinite hall plunged into an absolute, suffocating darkness.
Out of the pitch-black, the theatrical voice from the balcony boomed once more, its tone now carrying a fanatical, trembling reverence that shook the very air:
"LORD VILUCIOUS ACCANTTE! The mighty sovereign, the immortal’s soul. Kneel before the blood that birthed us! Behold, the architect of our immortality. The highest royal, by whose grace we feed, stands before you!"
Then, the world died.
The laughter choked out instantly, swallowed by a heavy, vacuum-like silence that made every heart skip a beat. But the heavy silence didn’t last. The moment the name left the speaker’s lips, the atmosphere shattered. A new tune rose from the darkness- not the slow, intoxicating rhythm from before, but a folk-inspired, driving, upbeat tempo that pulsed through the stone floor like a maniacal heartbeat.
Yet, despite the sudden surge of the music, the crowd did not move. The name Vilucious acted like a physical curse, freezing the highborns mid-breath. A dead, pin-drop silence gripped the crowd, a collective terror so potent that even the rustle of silk gowns vanished. No one dared to breathe. No one dared to whisper.
Click.
A sharp, piercing blue spotlight cut through the midnight gloom, tearing open a single corner of the vast hall where the royal stairs connected to it.
The beam pointed straight down, illuminating a pair of unique, exquisite elite boots resting on the floor. Carved with meticulous, real golden aesthetics that gleamed under the blue light, the intricate metallic designs twisted sharply against a rich, dark blue background.
He had arrived.
The heavy hum of the folk music seemed to pulse in time with his movement. Step by step, the King began his descent down the grand royal staircase.
The piercing blue spotlight tracked his feet with absolute precision, sliding down the marble risers one by one. With every downward step, a sharp, metallic clink resonated through the suffocating quiet of the hall. The sound was magnified by the silence, echoing off the high ceilings like a countdown to execution.
As the light danced over the leather, it caught the true marvel of the footwear- sculpted real gold wings were seamlessly attached to the heels, curving upward with the predatory elegance. They were not mere decoration; those golden wings were the sacred, absolute symbol of his royal lineage.
Reaching the foot of the stairs, his boots came to a halt.
Slowly, the narrow blue beam began to expand, widening in an agonizing, deliberate crawl to expose his full appearance from bottom to top.
Lord Vilucious stood at an imposing six feet three inches, a towering figure of dark magnificence. He wore a tailored royal doublet of the deepest midnight blue, embroidered with heavy gold filigree that resembled twisting briars along his broad shoulders and chest. A cascading, high-collared cape of matching navy velvet swept behind him, its inner lining woven from pure golden silk that caught the light with every subtle movement.
The spotlight crept higher, illuminating a piece of high-fashion neck jewellery- a chokelike collar of dark, polished obsidian plates interconnected by delicate gold chains, anchoring a single, blood-red gem at the hollow of his throat.
Above the collar sat a visage of terrifying perfection. His skin possessed a dreamy, ethereal white glow, completely unblemished and smooth as marble. It offered a stark, beautiful contrast to his soft, naturally pink lips. Yet, even with this mouth firmly shut, the sharp, lethal points of his royal fangs subtly protruded past his lower lip- a constant, quiet reminder of the apex predator beneath the surface.
His eyes were currently closed, adding a deceptive sense of serenity to his face. Highlighting his shut eyelids were long, pale, light-blue colored eyelashes that shimmered delicately under the spotlight like a fine frost. Framing this devastatingly handsome face was a silky, impeccably styled boy-cut hairstyle. The silver strands fell in a clean, modern frame around his sharp jawline. He looked remarkably young, a timeless portrait of youth and grace, possessing an overwhelmingly charming presence that drew the eye in- even as the primal, ruthless aura radiating from his body warned everyone to look away or die.
He didn’t move from his spot. With a slow, hypnotic rhythm, his pristine glove, crafted from the same rich royal blue fabric as his doublet, which he wore on his hands, glided down the snowy cat’s spine. The cat was cradled securely against his chest. It possessed a striking, completely white fur coat that perfectly mirrored the dreamy, ethereal color of the king’s own skin. He caressed its back with a deceptive gentleness. The animal lay completely still, untroubled by the oppressive aura filling the room, purring faintly into the dead silence of the hall.
With a sharp hum of magical energy, the massive chandeliers snapped back to life, flooding the infinite hall with brilliant, crystal illumination.
In that exact moment, Lord Vilucious slowly opened his eyes.
Every highborn noble vampire in that room was kneeling with their heads down, and with a hand on their chests on the golden marble floor.
He possessed large, striking dark blue doe eyes that held the wet, expressive shimmer of a human. Yet, the resemblance to humanity ended there. Within his irises, the pigment was not static. The deep, royal blue color was alive, moving slowly in a mesmerizing, fluid rotation. It looked like a swirling vortex of glittery, liquid starlight, flowing all the time across his iris like an infinite stream of cosmic water.
A chilling smirk played on his pink lips as he threw his head back. When he spoke, his voice rang out across the vast hall, rich and theatrical, rising into a dramatic, high-pitched cadence that echoed off the high ceilings like a twisted aria.
"My, my, it seems everyone has been enjoying themselves immensely! The blood feast has already begun? Ah... and here I thought this was to be my absolute favorite part of the evening. To think you would dare start without me?"
He chuckled, the sound sending cold shivers down the spines of the highborns. Lord Vilucious subtly gestured with his index finger. On command, the snowy white cat tucked under his arm fluidly crawled upward, draping itself like a living scarf across his broad shoulders.
"Down," the King murmured, snapping his gloved fingers.
Simultaneously, a sharp, collective snap cracked through the air. The hemp ropes holding the newly converted vampire slves dissolved into ash all at once. Stripped of their suspension, thousands of limp bodies plummeted, hitting the golden floor with a massive, sickening thud. They all lay there, piled together, barely conscious and groaning weakly.
A cruel, radiant smile lit up King’s charming face. He began to pace toward the center of the hall, his steps leisurely and unbothered.
Tok. Tok. Tok.
The rhythmic, heavy click of his golden-winged boots beat against the stone like a metronome of doom.
Right in front of him, the elite noble who had previously torn the slave’s dress was still kneeling. The highborn’s aristocratic composure was utterly shattered. He was scared as hell, his body trembling so violently that his joints popped, yet he forced himself to remain perfectly still. Thick beads of sweat continuously ran down his pale forehead, dripping onto the gold floor.
Lord Vilucious walked straight toward him. He didn’t bother stepping around the mass of dazed vampire slaves blocking his path. Instead, the King casually marched forward, his heavy heels mercilessly crushing the limbs, fingers, and ribs of the living groaning slaves beneath his unique boots. He didn’t even look down at the agonizing crunching under his feet.
Finally, the King came to a halt right in front of the trembling elite. With an agonizingly slow movement, Lord Vilucious extended his leg, deliberately planting his boot directly on top of the noble vampire’s expensive shoe, pinning his foot to the floor.
The King leaned down slightly, his moving, glittery blue irises swirling with manic delight. He pouted.
"But I wanted to join you so badly. How could you do this to me? I am a little sad, you know. Tell me... am I no longer your beloved sovereign?"
His voice remained mockingly sweet and playful to the rest of the silent crowd. Lord Vilucious began to grind his heavy heel down in a slow-paced, micro-movement that was completely unnoticeable to the other elites who were still kneeling. He applied a slow, agonizingly immense pressure, slowly crushing the noble’s foot beneath his royal boot, and the elite finally screamed, "AAAGHH!"
The pain was loud, so loud that it flashed in his voice. The king placed his gloved fingers beneath his chin and, with a dramatic concern on his face, he said, "What happened? Are you feeling sick?... Oh my, my, let him out of here; I don’t want to ruin the celebration. Treat him well!"
A soldier in a dusky metal, old-times war uniform came running to the spot, wearing a sallet on his head that matched his dress code. He held the elite by the arms from behind and started dragging him cruelly on the floor out of the massive hall. The elite vampire noble kept shouting, his voice echoing in the hall, "MY BELOVED LORD, I WILL NEVER LOOK AT SOMEONE AGAIN! SPARE ME!... LORD..."
Yet, he was ignored by each vampire, including the King.
As soon as the guards captured him, the king told everyone to stand up and begin.
The king looked at the vampire woman on the ground. Her clothes were torn by the earlier elite noble vampire. The king knelt next to her and held her hand tightly against the floor. He leaned over her completely to cover her skin from the crowd.
