The Sky Was Never Young: Vampire System Apocalypse

Chapter 3: A Night Which Stabbed Unrealism: Soul-less Creature

After the call went dead, the silence of the house pressed in on Cassian. A cold wave of panic crested in his chest, radiating down his limbs. Where are Mom and Dad? His mind screamed against the quiet. Why didn’t they answer me?

The fog in his brain began to clear, bringing the agonizing reality of his situation into sharp focus. His hand shook as he looked down at the syringe and the scattered syringe medicine bottle lying beside him on the floor. He needed help. He needed to tell someone exactly what had happened, right now, to the person on the other end of the line.

But as he tried to shift, a blinding flare of pain shot through his skull. His fingers went to the back of his head, coming away slick and dark with blood. The iron rod attack had left a jagged, bleeding gash. Gritting his teeth against a sudden wave of nausea, Cassain fumbled with the buttons of his open, sleeveless shirt, pressing the fabric firmly against the wound to staunch the flow. The pain was dizzying; it took everything he had just to keep collapsing back onto the floor.

Yet, the phantom ache of his own skull was nothing compared to the cold dread settling in his stomach. Alissa had just described the same elements of weird things happening at her end. He had swallowed his own agony, keeping his voice steady enough to calm her down, but now that the connection was severed, the weight of the coincidence crushed him.

"Momma? Dad?" Cassian called out, his voice cracking. He forced the words past a throat constricted by terror and pain. "Where are you? Mom, please, say something."

No one answered. Only the low hum of the refrigerator replied.

Steeling himself, he used the wall for the balance and dragged himself toward the staircase connecting the first-floor hallway to the terrace. He needed to check the kitchen first. But as he took a step, a sudden spike of vertigo stole his balance. His foot slipped on the polished wood.

Cassian tumbled down the short flight of stairs, the phone slipping from his grip and shattering against the hard floor.

"Damn it!" he groaned, staring at the dead screen. It was completely broken and was of no use now.

The pain in his head doubled, but the silence stretching through the house was worse. It was suffocating. He cried out again, abandoning any attempt at restraint. "MOM! DAD! ANSWER ME! WHY ARE YOU NOT SPEAKING ANYTHING? I AM INJURED!... A THIEF WAS HERE! MOM- HE ATTACKED ME! MOMMA!"

Nothing. Not a rustle, not a footstep.

This absolute stillness hurt worse than his current physical condition, as his parents never left the house without telling him, especially not after dark. His father was a dedicated, high-ranking government official, and his mother was a traditional housewife who took pride in keeping their home lively. His dad was always back by the evening, always helping around the house. For both of them to be gone at this hour, without a word, was impossible. Goosebumps erupted along Cassian’s arms, a primal warning system triggering in his gut.

Outwardly, Cassian had always built a reputation for being tough and fearless. He wore it like armor. But his family was his hidden fracture point. The trembling in his hands wasn’t just from the physical trauma- it was the terrifying realization that he was completely unprotected. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and began a frantic, frantic search. He tied that shirt tightly around the wound on his head and started searching for his parents in the whole house.

For thirty agonizing minutes, he dragged his bleeding body through every corner of the small house. He checked closets, under beds, behind curtains. Nothing. The house looked perfectly normal, yet entirely dead.

When he stumbled back into the dining area, uncanny details finally began to click. There was no food on the table. No clothes left in the laundry bin. The shelves were meticulously organized, books and newspapers stacked with an eerie, unnatural precision.

Then, he saw it. Sitting dead center on the dining table was a bizarre, translucent, glass-like box. Inside sat a small, ornate bag woven from red and golden precious-looking stones and pearls.

Cassian approached it cautiously, his breath rattling in his chest. He reached out and lifted the lid, rotating a golden nozzle at the top of the glass box. As soon as he took the bag out, the fabric parted, revealing a cluster of green, crystalline gems that seemed to pulse with an internal, watery light. Beneath the stones lay pieces of a heavy, emerald- green velvet cloth. It was embroidered with a sculpted, disturbing image: a grotesque creature that was half human, half beast. Along the bottom, a line of text was written in an elegant, spidery script that looked entirely alien to human eyes.

Using two fingers, Cassian pinched a corner of the cloth and lifted it. The material felt less like fabric and more like a crisp, specialized paper- almost like currency, but completely unrecognized by any nation he knew. He held it up against the harsh, white glare of the overhead tubelight.

As he flickered through the weave, hidden watermark lettering began to shimmer on the surface.

Cassian narrowed his eyes, reading the faint syllables aloud. "V-I-L-U-C-I-O-U-S... ViluciousA-C-C-A-N-T-T-E... Vilucious Accantte?"

The name tasted strange on his tongue. But what chilled him to the bone was how it appeared- a hidden message trapped in the fiber of a cloth that shouldn’t exist. "It seems like a name, but why is it written in a water image format? And I’m able to read it properly through light!"

He dropped the material, looking around the empty, pristine room as tears of frustration finally spilled over. "WHERE ARE MOM AND DAD!? WHAT IS ALL THIS!"

He screamed into the void, but the house remained stubbornly, terrifying silent. Every strange object in the room seemed to stare back at him, confirming a reality he wasn’t ready to face.

He took that bag and ran out of his house. He had his bike keys hidden in the mud of one of the plant pots of his outdoor garden. He went towards that pot and discovered the mud in that plant pot had converted to dark coal. He started to dig in that coal-filled plant and found the key to his bike which was hidden there, as it is.

He was so focused on digging the coal that he forgot to look at the plant. As soon as he found the key, he saw the plant was very creepy; it was all dry but still alive, and its leaves were sharp like big thorns. He sat on his bike and started it.

He didn’t have any idea of still to find his mom and dad, but he was so broken with fear from inside to a very great extent that he decided to go to Alissa first, as she was the one who witnessed the similar kind of situation like him and on the other hand, nothing should happen to her as she can be the one who can help him in this situation right now.

Alissa’s house was very close to the school, so he saw her entering the house many times after she came back from school, when he drove on his way after school. On his way, when he was about to reach her house, he saw the police guard from far away standing in the middle of the road that Alissa mentioned earlier with her frightened voice. He stopped his bike a few meters away from the police guard and said, "Sir, is everything fine?"

The police guard was looking towards the ground, with his head down, giving a continuous gaze to it, standing like a dummy. "S- Sir?" Cassian called out to him once more. The police guard suddenly came closer, running towards him and grabbed his neck tightly.

"AAGHH, LE-LEAVE ME! WHO- AR- ARE-?", shouted Cassian, fumbling and not able to speak as the guard was grabbing his neck, and he was trying to resist that grasp. That guard came closer to him while attacking him and opened his mouth to bite his neck. But what he saw at the next moment was completely unbelievable!

He saw the police guard had big black eyes that were completely black with no white part, and as soon as he opened his mouth, he saw two big canine fangs that were too big and sharp to kill a human and were completely non-human. He used his brain at that moment and managed to pluck out the bike keys from one of his hands, and with full force, he inserted them into that creepy vampire-like creature’s neck. After that, the creature fell on the ground, and then Cassian went close to his body... to take the keys back out from his neck, as he wanted to reach Alissa as fast as he could.

But then suddenly-
