The Snake God with SSS Rank Evolution System
Chapter 449: When the Spider PlaysCeline’s sharp gaze cut through the clearing, fixing on Lilith with cold disdain. Her voice carried the weight of someone accustomed to giving orders, not receiving interruptions.
"Oh? I deliberately chose not to trouble you because you’re clearly not human but what is the meaning of this?"
Lilith’s smile didn’t waver. She tilted her head, her crimson eyes gleaming with dark amusement.
"What? Can’t you see? I stopped you."
Celine’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of irritation passing through them. Her voice dropped, cold and sharp.
"That’s highly disrespectful. Speaking to me in that tone..." She raised her hand, a sharp gesture toward her soldiers. "Seize both women and the man behind them."
The demon soldiers moved instantly, their formation shifting as they surged toward Lilith, Isolde, and the unconscious Adam.
Isolde let out a low, dry sigh, her blood already stirring around her feet. Her voice carried a note of weary amusement.
"Oh? I thought you didn’t care about humans, Lilith."
Lilith’s smile sharpened, her threads already uncoiling around her fingers.
"I don’t. But they’re making too much noise near Adam. It’s annoying."
She flicked her wrist, and a wave of silver silk shot forward, wrapping around the three humans and yanking them toward her. They hit the ground with a sharp, pained cry, dragged across the rough earth before coming to a halt behind Lilith’s protective stance.
Franc’s voice carried a grunt of shock and pain as he hit the ground.
"Gagh—!"
Reith’s voice cracked as he was yanked off his feet.
"What the—!"
Bianca’s sharp cry was swallowed by the impact.
"Ah—!"
Celine’s voice cut through the chaos, cold and absolute.
"This is completely unacceptable."
She raised her hand, and the demon soldiers surged forward.
Lilith’s threads shot out again, silver strands weaving a web of silk that intercepted the first wave of attackers. They tangled, tripped, and fell, their momentum broken by the unexpected barrier.
Isolde’s blood rose, forming a wall of hardened crimson that deflected the next wave. The soldiers slammed into it with a sharp, wet impact, their weapons scraping uselessly against the barrier.
Lilith’s voice drifted over, light and amused.
"Maybe it’ll be fun to ruin this demon’s plans. She seems far too serious."
Isolde’s blood shifted, forming into a dozen crimson blades that hovered in the air around her.
"She’s a demon commander. One of the high-ranking officers stationed at the border."
Lilith’s eyes widened slightly, a flicker of genuine interest passing through them.
"A demon commander?" Her smile sharpened, a predatory gleam entering her crimson eyes. "I’ve been dying to know—do demon commanders scream when they bleed?"
She raised her hand, and her threads shot forward, weaving a web that surrounded Celine, cutting off her path to the soldiers. The silver strands pulsed with dark light, and Lilith’s voice dropped to a silken murmur.
"And.... I don’t like it when people interrupt my peace. Makes me want to teach them a lesson."
Celine’s blade swept up, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the threads. They were dense, layered, and pulsed with a faint, hungry light.
"Tch... You’re not ordinary monsters, are you?" She said.
Lilith’s smile didn’t waver as Celine’s blade carved through her threads with casual ease. The severed silk fell to the ground like dead leaves, dissolving into wisps of silver light.
"Calling me a monster? How rude." Lilith’s voice was light, almost playful, but her crimson eyes held a cold edge. "You should be more careful with your words."
Celine’s lips curled into a thin, condescending smile as she lowered her blade.
"Your threads are impressive, but they won’t be enough to defeat me. You’re wasting your energy."
Lilith’s smile widened, a flicker of dark amusement passing through her eyes.
"Oh? Is that so?"
Celine’s instincts screamed.
A cold prickle ran down her spine—the unmistakable sensation of being hunted. Her head snapped around, her eyes widening as she caught the gleam of black steel behind her.
Soulreaver hung in the air, its blade poised to strike, suspended by threads so fine they were nearly invisible. The dark sword hummed with hungry anticipation, its edge aimed directly at the back of Celine’s skull.
Celine’s blade came up in a desperate arc, meeting Soulreaver’s strike with a sharp, ringing clash that sent shockwaves rippling through the clearing. The impact jarred her arm, and her teeth clenched as she absorbed the force.
"Tch—!"
She shoved the blade aside, spinning to face Lilith with renewed wariness.
Lilith’s laughter drifted through the air, light and amused.
"Almost had you there."
Celine’s eyes narrowed, her grip tightening on her blade as she reassessed the situation. The Soulreaver hovered behind her, still suspended by Lilith’s threads, its edge gleaming with hungry anticipation.
"Clever," Celine admitted, her voice carrying a note of grudging respect. "Using your threads to control a weapon from a distance. I didn’t expect that."
Lilith’s smile widened, her fingers twitching as she guided Soulreaver through the air. The blade traced a slow, deliberate arc before settling into a guard position beside her.
"I have many tricks, demon commander. And I’m not afraid to use them."
Celine’s gaze flicked to Isolde, then to the unconscious Adam, then back to Lilith. Her internal voice was cold, calculating.
’Two of them. One seems to control blood, the other uses threads and that black sword..... I think I’ve seen it before..’
She tightened her grip on her blade, her posture shifting into a more defensive stance.
"I don’t have time to play games with you," Celine said, her voice cold and dismissive. "I came for the soldiers. Hand them over, and I’ll consider letting you walk away."
Lilith’s laugh was soft, musical—and utterly without warmth.
"Walk away? Oh, how generous of you." She tilted her head, her crimson eyes gleaming with predatory delight. "But I’m afraid I have other plans."
She raised her hand, and her threads shot forward the demon soldiers surrounding them. They wrapped around ankles, wrists, throats, yanking them off balance, sending them crashing into each other in a tangle of limbs and armor.
Isolde’s blood rose in response, forming a barrier between the soldiers and the Melium survivors. Her voice was calm, measured.
"Lilith. Focus on the commander. I’ll handle the soldiers."
Lilith’s smile widened.
"Gladly."
Celine’s eyes blazed. Her aura erupted, crimson and cold, pressing against the clearing like a physical weight.
"ENOUGH!"
She surged forward, her blade carving a devastating arc aimed at Lilith’s throat. The strike was fast, precise—a killing blow meant to end the fight in one stroke.
Lilith’s threads snapped up to meet it, weaving a dense barrier of silver silk. The blade struck the barrier, and for a moment, they held—the crimson edge pressing against the silver threads, neither yielding.
Then the barrier cracked.
Lilith’s eyes widened slightly as the blade broke through, forcing her to leap back. Her threads reformed around her, and she landed in a crouch, her smile sharpening.
"Not bad."
Celine didn’t respond. She pressed the attack, her blade becoming a blur of crimson light as she drove Lilith back step by step.
Isolde’s blood intercepted a demon soldier, driving him into the ground. She glanced at the duel, her pale blue eyes narrowing.
’Lilith seems to be able to handle the demon but the problem is there are many demons attacking from all directions.... it looks like I have to attack them all at once.’
She turned back to her own fight, her blood forming into a dozen crimson blades that shot toward the remaining soldiers.
Isolde’s blood surged like a tidal wave, a cascade of crimson that swept through the remaining demon soldiers with brutal efficiency. The blades she had summoned carved through armor and flesh alike, and the soldiers fell one after another, their bodies crumpling to the blood-soaked earth.
Bianca’s eyes went wide as she watched the carnage unfold. Her voice came out in a reverent whisper, barely audible over the clash of steel.
"The Vampire Queen’s power... it’s real. Every story I’ve heard—they didn’t exaggerate..."
A demon soldier broke through the chaos, his eyes fixed on Adam’s unconscious form. He lunged, his blade aimed at the horned man’s chest.
Isolde’s head snapped toward him. Her blood answered before she could form the thought—a dozen crimson tendrils shot forward, piercing the soldier from every angle. The demon’s body convulsed, his weapon clattering to the ground as the blood tendrils lifted him off his feet, suspending him in the air like a grotesque trophy.
Isolde’s voice came out cold, sharp, carrying the weight of absolute authority.
"Don’t you dare touch him."
The soldier’s body went limp. Isolde released him, and he crumpled to the ground, forgotten.
On the other side of the clearing, Lilith’s threads danced through the air like silver serpents, each one carrying a fragment of Soulreaver. The black blade had dissolved into a dozen smaller shards, each one streaking toward Celine from a different angle.
Celine’s blade moved in a blur of crimson light, deflecting shard after shard with practiced precision. CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! The impacts sent sparks showering across the battlefield, each one a testament to her skill.
But Lilith only smiled.
"Keep dancing," she purred, her crimson eyes gleaming with dark amusement. "It’s so entertaining to watch."
Celine’s jaw tightened, her eyes blazing with cold fury. She deflected another shard, then another, her movements growing sharper, more precise.
"You’re mocking me."
Lilith’s smile widened.
"Of course I am. What else is there to do when you’re this easy to read?"
