When Aisha arrived in her room, Daisy was standing in a corner. Tears pooled in the young maid’s eyes as she rushed toward her young miss and threw her arms around her.
"Miss Aisha!"
Aisha extended her arms to catch the crying maid and stared at her. "Daisy, what happened? Are you hurt?"
Given how things had ended between her and the Novalis family, Daisy would inevitably bear the brunt of their ire as her personal maid.
Thankfully, it wasn’t as she thought it would be as Daisy shook her head.
Wiping the tears from her eyes, Daisy held Aisha’s hand. "Miss, they’re so rude! When I went down to fetch some water, they dragged me and ordered me around! They told me that I don’t need to serve you anymore. How dare they say that? Who do they think they are?!"
Aisha listened to the young maid’s complaints and fell silent.
Daisy didn’t notice the silence coming from Aisha and continued. "They even told me that you can no longer live here! And you’re not part of their family... Miss, how could they say those words just because you broke off your engagement with the prince? Oh, you must have felt so terrible!"
The young maid’s tears renewed as they fell in drops down her cheeks.
Seeing this, Aisha’s cold heart softened slightly. She lifted a finger to wipe the tears from the young maid’s face.
"Daisy, it’s fine."
"But, miss!"
"Shh... Listen to me first." Aisha stopped the young maid before she could say a word. "They’re right. I don’t belong here and I will be leaving this place... But I have something to tell you and you need to listen carefully."
Daisy fixed her attention on her and slowly nodded.
"I will be going alone."
The young maid’s face instantly fell. But Aisha exhaled softly. "It wouldn’t be good for you to leave with me right now. Your employment contract is in my adoptive mother’s hands and I can’t pull you out of it."
"I don’t want to separate from you, Miss. I could—"
"No." Aisha shook her head. She had seen Daisy’s contract, and there’s still over four months left on it. If Daisy forces her way to terminate it and quit, she’ll have to compensate for it herself.
Of course, Aisha could give her the money to pay for the termination fee. But there was another reason why she couldn’t bring the young maid with her for now.
Things haven’t settled around her yet. And Aisha hasn’t found a place to live, and she couldn’t continue staying at the residence the Admiral had lent her. And the most worrisome thing was the emperor’s unwanted interest in her.
As much as Aisha wanted to bring the only person who had been there for her ever since she had arrived in this world, she couldn’t bring any form of danger to that person as well. That would go against her principles.
"So, until your contract is over... wait for me to get you, alright?"
"Miss... I... A-alright..." Daisy could no longer hold back her tears. "But what will happen to you when you leave? Where would you go? How will you eat and who will serve you?"
Aisha could only sigh. She couldn’t deny that she felt pleased that someone would feel concern about her, but there was nothing she could do.
In the end, she had to pack her things. There weren’t a lot of things that she could take with her. Most of Aisha Novalis’ belongings were bought with the money the Novalis family had given. Although she could take them with her... Aisha had no use for these useless things. Most of them were books that had already been used and read, and other academic supplies.
The dresses were too incompatible with her style, so she didn’t bring a lot of them. In any case, she wouldn’t have any need to wear a dress in the future. She no longer belonged to the middle-upper class. There was no way to socialize with the nobles and elite circles in the higher sectors. Aisha also took off the dress she wore at the ceremony and packed it with her along with Zenick’s and the two other gifts.
As for the other things...
Aisha’s eyes fell on the pot that strangely had something growing from it. Remembering that this was one of Seraphina’s collections of ungrown plants.
Was it this long before? Aisha stared curiously at the shoot that had started to twist upward. It was around five inches long.
"Miss, please take this with you."
Aisha turned around, throwing the question about the shoot growing from the pot in the back of her mind, and found Daisy carrying a small book the size of her palm. The cover was dark purple without any title that suggested what it could be for.
Daisy explained that it was something Aisha had kept by her side. Aisha assumed that it was a diary and took it with her.
It was time for her to leave, so the last thing that she took with her was the spiritual beasts who obediently climbed and crawled into her collar.
"Take care, miss."
"You too, Daisy."
Aisha bid her farewell to her maid as she made her way out of the mansion.
When she walked down the hallway, Irene was no longer there. But Aisha calmly continued on her way out. Frankly speaking, she had been surprised that she was able to do that against an S-ranked Guide.
The power structure of this world was still foreign to her, though she could grasp the fundamentals of it. Moreover, after guessing what Irene might have done, Aisha applied the same pattern and only changed the instructions to alter the perception of people.
It wasn’t the same as what she did to Vesper. That had been infused with a bit of guiding ability.
What she did to Irene was similar to what had been done to the herald, albeit greatly different because not only did Aisha intercept Irene’s attack, she had bent and forced her own will onto Irene.
It was a risky move with a 60 percent chance of failure. But she was successful in doing it. Still, she had to be careful in using this ability in the future as it wasn’t certain if it could be successful again!
And without any idea of how much had changed in her mental pool, and since she couldn’t reevaluate herself, Aisha could only blindly guess what her real rank was now.
However, she was sure that there was no way she could be a D-rank.
