The medical bay was unnaturally quiet. Only the steady hum of life-support systems and the slow, rhythmic ripple of bacta fluid disturbed the stillness. Pale light bathed the chamber in a sterile glow, reflecting off polished metal surfaces and casting faint distortions through the translucent tank at the center of the room.

Suspended within that tank, Darth Vader floated motionless.

His body, stripped of armor, was immersed in the healing fluid, his form partially obscured by the faint blue haze of bacta. The damage inflicted upon his armor had already been repaired but the damage beneath it lingered. Flesh burned long ago. Nerves that would never fully recover. And new injuries layered upon old scars, not from a battlefield defeat, but from something far more personal.

The Dark Lord of the Sith was healing.

His mind, however, was anything but at rest.

The sharp hiss of the door breaking the silence echoed through the chamber as it slid open, admitting three clone troopers in perfect formation. Their synchronized steps rang against the sterile floor, precise and disciplined, their armor gleaming under the harsh lights. They moved forward only a few paces before halting as one, their helmets tilting upward toward the tank.

For a brief moment, none of them spoke.

Even battle-hardened soldiers felt it—the weight that filled the room, invisible yet suffocating. It pressed down on them, crawling beneath their armor, settling into their bones. It was not merely the presence of a superior officer.

The lead trooper stepped forward at last, his posture rigid as he addressed the tank. “Lord Vader.”

There was no response. Only the slow drift of Vader’s body within the liquid, unmoving, as though the voice had not reached him at all.

Then, without warning, his eyes opened.

Even through the distortion of the fluid, the intensity of that gaze was unmistakable. It fixed itself on the troopers with a clarity that made the air feel heavier, more difficult to breathe.

“The Emperor requests your presence,” the trooper continued, his voice steady, though a faint strain betrayed the pressure bearing down on him. “He requires it immediately.”

Vader gave no verbal acknowledgment, no gesture, no movement to indicate compliance. Yet the troopers did not need one. He had heard. He always heard.

Moments later, the tank began to drain.

The soft gurgle of receding fluid broke the stillness as the bacta level dropped, revealing the scarred form beneath. Mechanical supports disengaged one by one, retracting with precise clicks, while seals along the chamber released with faint hisses. The glow of the tank dimmed as the process completed, and the chamber split open.

Vader stepped forward slowly, emerging from the tank as streams of liquid cascaded from his body onto the floor below. His breathing was shallow at first, controlled but uneven, as his lungs adjusted outside the fluid.

Medical droids moved immediately.

They approached without hesitation, their movements efficient and silent as they began their work. Mechanical arms extended, attaching components to his torso, sealing neural connections, and reassembling the intricate systems that sustained his life. Tubes connected. Interfaces locked into place. Each step was performed with practiced precision, restoring what had become an extension of his very existence.

The armor followed.

Piece by piece, the black plating was fitted onto his body, each section locking into place with a heavy, deliberate sound. The weight of it settled over him like a second skin, familiar and unyielding. The final component—the mask—was brought forward with almost ceremonial care.

As it lowered into place, there was a brief moment of stillness.

Then came the hiss.

Breath returned, no longer human, no longer natural, but steady and mechanical, each inhale and exhale echoing faintly through the chamber.

Darth Vader was whole again.

Without a word, he turned away from the droids and the troopers alike, his presence filling the room as he began to walk. The troopers instinctively stepped aside, none daring to move until he had passed them completely. Only once the heavy doors slid shut behind him did they allow themselves to shift, the oppressive weight lifting ever so slightly from the air.

Far above, in the towering spires of Coruscant, another chamber awaited.

The throne room was vast, its scale almost overwhelming, yet it felt far from empty. Darkness lingered there. It seeped into every corner, wrapping itself around the towering structures and the immense viewport that overlooked the endless city below.

Darth Sidious stood before that viewport, his hands clasped behind his back, his posture composed. The storm of fury that had once consumed him was gone, leaving behind a calm that was far more unsettling. It was the stillness of a predator who had already decided its next move.

The doors opened behind him.

Vader entered and stopped several paces away before lowering himself into a kneel. "Master.”

Sidious did not turn immediately. He remained facing the sprawling lights of Coruscant, as though the city itself held his attention. When he finally spoke, his voice was calm, almost conversational.

“You have recovered.”

“Yes, Master,” Vader replied without hesitation.

A brief silence followed, heavy with unspoken understanding.

“You know why you have been summoned.”

“I do.”

Only then did Sidious turn.

His expression revealed nothing—no anger, no disappointment, no trace of the rage that had once burned so fiercely. There was only calculation, as his gaze settled upon his apprentice.

“These intruders,” he began, his tone measured, “are not accidents. They are trained. Shaped by knowledge that predates much of what we understand.”

He stepped forward slowly, his presence filling the vast chamber as surely as Vader’s had filled the medical bay. “Power such as theirs does not emerge without guidance.”

Vader’s voice remained low and steady. “Someone taught them.”

A faint smile touched Sidious’s lips. “Precisely.”

He began to circle, each step deliberate, his words weaving together like a carefully constructed trap. “I have spent my life studying the Sith. Traveling across the galaxy. Uncovering secrets buried for millennia. If such power had existed…” He paused, his gaze sharpening. “I would have known.”

Silence stretched between them, thick and absolute.

“There is only one explanation,” Sidious continued at last, his voice dropping slightly.

“Count Dooku.”

At that, Vader’s posture stiffened almost imperceptibly. Memories rose unbidden—flashes of a duel, the hum of lightsabers, the moment of execution. The past, long buried, stirred beneath the surface.

“My former apprentice was many things,” Sidious said, his tone thoughtful. “Secretive. Cunning. Capable of concealing truths even from me. It would not be unlike him to prepare for his own demise.”

He stopped directly before Vader, his gaze piercing. "A legacy.”

“Apprentices,” Vader murmured.

Sidious inclined his head. “Hidden. Trained in secrecy. Waiting for the moment to reveal themselves.”

His expression hardened, the calm giving way to something colder. “And now that moment has come.”

The command followed without delay, spoken with quiet authority that allowed no room for refusal.

“You will go to Serenno.”

Vader remained still, awaiting the rest.

“You will search everything he left behind—his estates, his archives, his secrets. Every trace of his influence.” Sidious stepped closer, his voice lowering to a near whisper. “You will find them.”

A longer pause followed, one that felt less like instruction and more like judgment. His eyes studied Vader, measuring him, weighing his worth.

Then came the final words.

“Either you destroy them… or you will fall.”

It was not a threat.

It was expectation.

Vader bowed his head slightly. “As you wish, Master.”

Rising to his feet, he turned without hesitation and began to walk toward the exit. The massive doors parted before him, granting passage as they always did.

Yet beneath the mask, something shifted.

It was not fear.

Nor was it submission.

It was relief.

Because this mission offered more than a directive—it offered distance. Distance from the Emperor’s ever-watchful presence. Time away from the suffocating weight of his master’s expectations.

Time to search.

Time to prepare.

And, perhaps most importantly, time to pursue something Sidious had not commanded.

As Vader stepped into the corridor, the mechanical rhythm of his breathing echoed steadily, a constant, unchanging presence in the silence. But his thoughts moved far beyond the walls of Coruscant.

The power he had witnessed on Tatooine lingered in his mind—the abilities, the presence, the undeniable strength of those he had encountered.

“They will not remain above me,” he murmured quietly, his voice lost beneath the hiss of his respirator.

Whatever they had become…

Whatever power they wielded…

Darth Vader would surpass it.

High above the elegant world of Serenno, the sky itself seemed to fracture as massive Imperial vessels tore through the atmosphere one after another. The calm, aristocratic serenity that had defined the planet for centuries shattered beneath the thunder of engines and the blaze of descending warships.

Sleek destroyers cut across the clouds with predatory grace, followed by heavy transports and support cruisers that filled the heavens like a gathering storm. Within minutes, they formed a tightening ring around the planet, a silent declaration of control—a fist slowly closing.

From the ground, the nobles of Serenno could do nothing but watch.

This was not a world accustomed to war. It had never needed to be. Serenno was a planet of lineage, of carefully preserved heritage, where power flowed through ancient bloodlines rather than armies. Its sprawling landscapes were adorned with grand estates and towering castles, with manicured gardens stretching for miles under open skies. It was a world that prided itself on refinement, on tradition, on the quiet dominance of old nobility.

Now, it looked like a battlefield waiting to erupt.

The ships landed with earth-shaking force, their descent cracking the stillness like thunder rolling across the horizon. Ramps lowered in perfect synchronization, and from them poured ranks upon ranks of clone troopers, their white armor gleaming starkly against the pale stone courtyards of noble estates.

Gunships hovered overhead in disciplined patterns, their engines rumbling with restrained power, while heavy walkers deployed with mechanical precision, each step reverberating through the ground.

At the center of it all, one transport stood apart.

Its ramp lowered slowly, deliberately, as though granting the world a moment to witness what it had summoned.

And from that shadowed opening emerged Darth Vader.

His presence alone commanded the space around him, a suffocating weight that pressed upon all who stood nearby. Conversations died before they began. Thoughts of resistance vanished before they could fully form.

The nobles did not protest.

They did not even consider defiance.

One of Serenno’s ruling lords hurried forward, his ornate robes flowing behind him as he approached. His composure, so carefully cultivated over a lifetime of courtly politics, faltered beneath the oppressive aura that radiated from the Sith Lord. He bowed deeply, lowering himself with practiced grace that now carried an unmistakable edge of fear.

“Lord Vader,” he said, his voice controlled but tight. “Serenno welcomes the Empire.”

Vader did not acknowledge him.

His gaze passed over the man as though he were nothing more than an obstacle, sweeping instead across the estate beyond.

“You will assist,” Vader said at last, his tone flat, leaving no room for interpretation.

The noble swallowed, straightening only slightly. “Of course. Anything you require.”

The man hesitated, then spoke again, unable to suppress the question forming in his mind. “May I ask the purpose of this… deployment?”

Vader’s head tilted ever so slightly, the subtle motion carrying more weight than any overt threat.

“You may not.”

The noble lowered himself again, this time more deeply than before. “Forgive me, my Lord.”

Vader had already moved past him.

The army followed.

Inside the grand estate of Count Dooku, time seemed to have stalled. Dust lay undisturbed across relics of a fallen legacy, coating polished surfaces that had once gleamed with pride. Tall windows allowed pale light to spill across vast halls, illuminating banners that still bore the insignia of a house that had once stood among the most powerful in the galaxy.

Now, those halls echoed with the sound of Imperial boots.

Doors were forced open. Walls were scanned. Hidden compartments were uncovered with mechanical efficiency. Clone troopers moved like extensions of a single will, spreading throughout the estate in coordinated sweeps.

“Search everything,” Vader commanded, his voice carrying effortlessly through the vast interior. “Leave nothing.”

The troopers dispersed at once.

Vader did not follow them.

He walked alone.

The noise of the search—the opening of doors, the hum of scanners, the occasional sharp report of forced entry—faded behind him as he moved deeper into the estate. He did not need their methods. He did not need their precision.

He needed something else.

Answers.

The memory of Tatooine resurfaced unbidden, sharp and unwelcome. The clash of power. The control he had felt slipping, if only for a moment. The undeniable truth that lingered beneath it all.

He had not dominated that encounter.

He had been matched.

The realization settled in his mind like a cold blade.

“…He matched me.”

The admission remained unspoken, but it carried weight nonetheless.

And the other one—

The creature.

Small. Fast. Unpredictable.

Vader’s hand tightened slightly at his side as the memory sharpened.

“…Together…”

The conclusion was inescapable.

“…they would have killed me.”

There was no anger in the thought.

Vader did not lie to himself. He did not indulge in comforting illusions. Weakness, once identified, was meant to be corrected.

Which was why he had come prepared.

Outside, the might of the Empire had already secured Serenno. Gunships patrolled the skies in tight formations, their sensors scanning relentlessly. Artillery had been positioned at key locations, ready to respond at a moment’s notice. If the mysterious Sith and his apprentice were here—

They would not escape.

Within the estate, Vader came to a halt before a set of towering doors.

They stood closed, their surface unmarred by time, as though untouched since the day their master had last passed through them. Unlike the rest of the estate, there was something deliberate in their stillness. Something intentional.

“Here,” Vader said quietly.

He raised his hand.

The doors exploded inward.

Wood splintered. Metal groaned. The barrier collapsed under the invisible force, revealing the chamber beyond.

It was a study.

Hidden.

The room was lined with shelves filled with ancient texts and artifacts, each one a fragment of knowledge preserved from a bygone era. The air itself felt heavier here, thick with secrets that had remained undisturbed for years.

Vader stepped inside slowly.

Each movement was deliberate, measured, as though he were entering not just a room, but a threshold.

His gaze settled on the center of the chamber.

A pedestal stood there, simple in design, yet commanding attention.

Resting upon it—

A holocron.

Holocrons were not mere repositories of knowledge. They were gateways—tests of will and understanding, often shaped by the one who created them.

Which meant it would not yield its secrets easily.

But Vader also understood something else.

The power he had witnessed.

The abilities he did not yet possess.

The gap that had nearly cost him his life.

His hand closed around the holocron.

A faint glow pulsed through the device, spreading outward until it filled the chamber with a soft, shifting light. Energy crackled faintly in the air as the holocron activated, responding to his presence, to his will.

Then—

A voice.

Cruel.

“Ah…”

The glow intensified, shaping itself into a holographic figure..

“I wondered who would find this.”
