Chapter 214: Chapter 211: Research Progress
After asking Solos a few more questions about the current situation on Earth, he cut off the Stone Listening Communication.
He opened his eyes to a blast of scorching air. His two-thousand-plus points of Magic Power were nearly depleted from the continuous drain of Shadow Sneak.
He stood, exiting his Shadow Sneak state, and swallowed a Tier Five Qi Recovery Pill. Gazing at the endless sea of sand around him, Feng Hao shook his head in resignation. ’I was thinking of exploring the Secret Realm, but it looks like I’ll pass.’
In the face of such a harsh environment, Feng Hao really couldn’t find the motivation to train.
He expertly channeled his Magic Power into the Secret Realm Mark. The space around him gradually distorted, and in the blink of an eye, he was back at the foot of the Origin Node in Central Square.
Seeing Feng Hao emerge so quickly, the passing students couldn’t help but be curious. They pointed and whispered amongst themselves, speculating about his intentions.
’I wonder how the research on the magical beasts is going. I should go see Old Sun.’
And so, under the students’ bewildered gazes, Feng Hao hopped onto his Mansa, soared into the sky, and headed toward the Alchemy Department.
He made a detour to the dorms, but found that Houhuiyao wasn’t there. He figured he had probably gone off to train with a team.
He hurried from the dorms to the laboratory. As he approached, he saw Xie Kuangfeng, clad in armor and wielding a Light Blade, training by himself.
Ever since Xie Kuangfeng had become Sun Yaowen’s disciple, Feng Hao had seen him at the laboratory nearly every visit, and they had gotten to know each other quite well over time.
"Senior Brother Xie, training again?" Feng Hao said, walking over to greet him.
Xie Kuangfeng froze, his movements stopping subconsciously. He looked at Feng Hao in pleasant surprise. "Junior Feng?! Get over here and let’s have a go! I heard you defeated Bai Yin, and my hands have been itching for a fight ever since."
"Ahem..." Feng Hao coughed dryly and forced a smile. "Let’s skip the sparring. I need to get to my research on the magical beasts."
With that, he ducked into the laboratory without a second glance. ’Are you kidding me? Xie Kuangfeng isn’t a Magic-type Mage. I’d have no advantage fighting him.’
Although his own power was decent now, there was still a gap between him and Xie Kuangfeng, who was decked out in High-tier Armor and wielding a Fifth Gear Light Blade.
’Of course, a gap is a gap. If it came down to a real fight, I’m still confident I could take him out.’
Inside the laboratory, Sun Yaowen was engrossed in an experiment. A new magical beast carcass lay on the dissection table. Unlike the last one, this specimen was significantly larger.
"Old Sun, how’s it coming along?" Feng Hao asked as he changed into a protective suit.
Sun Yaowen snapped out of his research, shot Feng Hao an irritated glare, and grumbled, "The drug for eliminating bottlenecks is in its final phase, but a new problem has emerged with the magic toxin antibody."
"What kind of problem?" Feng Hao asked, leaning closer with a frown.
"Based on the previous experiments on magical beasts, the antibody was a success. But a few days ago, I tested it on myself and discovered the magic toxin antibody has a corrosive effect on the human body," Sun Yaowen said gravely. "Thankfully, the experimental dose was small. Otherwise, the consequences would have been unthinkable."
Feng Hao was speechless. He said irritably, "Old Sun, have you got a death wish or something? Testing the drug on yourself."
"Haha, I’m fine, aren’t I?" Sun Yaowen gave a warm smile and pointed to a nearby lab bench. "This is the experimental data for the magic toxin antibody. Help me figure out where the problem is."
"Alright." Without another word, Feng Hao walked over to the lab bench, his brow furrowed in concentration as he began to study the data.
After an afternoon of exploration and experimentation, Feng Hao couldn’t find the issue. According to Sun Yaowen’s data, there was nothing wrong at all.
’But why does the magic toxin antibody have a corrosive effect on the human body?’
After long and hard thought, Feng Hao finally grasped the key to the problem. He looked up and asked, "Have you tried investigating the magical beasts themselves?"
"Ah." Sun Yaowen’s eyes lit up, and he laughed in sudden realization. "Of course! Why didn’t I think of that? If the magical beasts can use it safely, there must be something unique about them."
"Haha... You’re a clever one, kid. Just you wait, I’ll go get a few live magical beasts!" Sun Yaowen boomed with laughter as he dashed out of the laboratory.
Feng Hao chuckled, shaking his head with a helpless smile. ’That old fellow has none of the composure of an elder.’
Half an hour later, Sun Yaowen returned in a flurry. His Spatial Ring flashed, releasing several monkey-like magical beasts.
With a new lead, their research progressed with twice the results for half the effort.
The two worked late into the night and finally found a special substance within the magical beasts’ bodies that neutralized the corrosive effect of the magic toxin antibody.
The more Sun Yaowen researched, the more energized he became, busying himself frantically around the lab without even taking a break to eat.
Feng Hao, however, had no intention of pulling an all-nighter with him. After extracting the special substance, he said his goodbyes and left.
He flew the Mansa back to his general store, arriving in the dead of night. After a few hours of sleep, a new day began.
To Feng Hao’s surprise, Yao Ying didn’t show up today either. It seemed she had no intention of returning.
"If you’re going to quit, then quit. But to just leave without a word... so unprofessional," Feng Hao grumbled, pouting in dissatisfaction.
Fortunately, the general store wasn’t busy. He sat leisurely behind the counter and began tinkering with his handheld game console.
The afternoon arrived in a flash. The handheld’s magic circuit board was still far from complete. Seeing that there were no customers, Feng Hao decided to close up shop and head over to Elder Tang’s place to continue his metalworking.
But first, he needed to stop by the Treasure Pavilion to pick up his cut of the recent profits.
After all, he had to participate in the Rogue Preliminaries in a few days. He’d need some spending money, wouldn’t he?
’He was already quite wealthy, but it was always good to have more. After all, the people at the Grand Hall were all second-generation elites. You could lose anything but face. When the time came, he’d just flash his assets, and wouldn’t the beauties come flocking?’
The Treasure Pavilion of today was a far cry from its former self. Thanks to the Life Spirit Pill and Snow Frost Ointment, it was flooded with customers and orders daily.
As soon as he stepped inside, he saw Xue Xiaoyun attending to customers. When she noticed Feng Hao, she hastily put down her work and came over with a light smile. "Boss Feng! What brings you here?"
"Heh, I’m heading out of town in a few days, so I came to get some travel money," Feng Hao said with a wry smile.
"Here for money, are you?" Xue Xiaoyun pouted playfully and turned around. "Come with me. My father already has it ready for you."
"Oh, really?" Feng Hao grinned in surprise and hurried to catch up.
When they reached the upstairs reception room, Xue Xiaoyun produced a golden Spatial Ring from out of nowhere and tossed it to Feng Hao. "Here. This is the recent profit share. It’s about five hundred billion."
Feng Hao caught the Spatial Ring and instinctively scanned it with his Divine Sense. His expression turned odd. "Why is it all Level 1, 2, and 3 Magic Crystals?"
"Duh. It’s all accumulated from daily revenue. Of course there aren’t any High-Level Magic Crystals," Xue Xiaoyun retorted.
"Couldn’t you have exchanged them for Level 4 Magic Crystals? I’m about to reach the fourth tier."
Xue Xiaoyun frowned. "Five hundred billion is no small amount. The shop doesn’t have that many Level 4 Magic Crystals on hand right now. How about this: you can take a compressor from downstairs and just compress them yourself when you need to."
"A compressor?" Feng Hao asked, stunned.
