Chapter 57: 57. First kiss
When Kai arrived, the giant snake was already in front of Kaileon’s room, with Angeline sitting there, terrified, in front of the door.
Kai had activated his detection magic and hadn’t deactivated it even for a moment.
However, the large white snake was right there, and his detection magic didn’t register it as a threat at all.
"What’s wrong, Angeline? I don’t think that snake is a threat. Why don’t you try communicating with it?" Kai asked.
Only after getting closer was Kai able to detect information about the white snake.
A poisonous monster, inedible, and a high-level monster with the intelligence of a diamond-horned wolf. Classified as dragon.
Kai pulled Angeline’s arm to help her stand up. Though still hesitant due to fear, Angeline was ready to ask the snake a question.
However, no sound came out; Angeline was too afraid of the snake. So the girl hugged Kai and whispered that she was afraid of snakes.
At that moment, Kai could feel the girl’s body trembling; she was truly terrified of the snake.
The maids were actually there as well, but they didn’t dare to get even a little closer, let alone move. They stood frozen in place, utterly terrified of the snake.
Shortly afterward, a white light enveloped the snake’s body, and as the white light faded, the snake’s body had transformed into that of a beautiful woman with white eyes.
Everyone was shocked by the transformation, especially when they saw that the woman’s dress was torn in several places.
Then Jean and Jo arrived; they were both startled by the sight as well and didn’t even dare to approach.
The white snake woman finally spoke up.
"I’m sorry for causing a commotion, but I didn’t mean to scare you or cause panic. I am a white water dragon, and I’m here to ask for help. I heard there’s a descendant of the fairies here who possesses healing magic... can he heal my blind eyes? If so, I will grant him one wish," said the white water dragon.
Kai turned to Jean, as it seemed the man knew something. But Jean merely gestured for Kai to heed the water dragon’s words.
Kai then asked Angeline to step back or hide in the room if she was afraid.
Angeline agreed and immediately went into Kai’s room, hiding there because she was terrified of snakes. Even though she already knew it was actually a white water dragon.
Jeny, who didn’t dare to approach, felt sorry for her princess, because she was the only one who knew why Angeline was so afraid of snakes.
Kai approached the snake and tried to heal it. It turned out that healing the white water dragon required a tremendous amount of magical energy.
Kai felt weak after finishing healing the water dragon.
The white water dragon opened her eyes, and now her eyes were no longer just white—there were red pupils there.
"Thank you, Kaileon Arslan... as I promised, I will grant you just one wish," said the dragon.
Kaileon was silent for a moment; he didn’t know what to ask for at that moment. But he had just met a high-level monster! She was incredibly powerful.
"I don’t have a request right now, but if I ever find myself in trouble and need help, would you be willing to help me?" Kai asked.
The white water dragon laughed, then nodded confidently, "Of course! I’ll help you when you’re in trouble. But I can’t leave without giving you something in return, so here, take this."
The white water dragon handed Kai a small wooden chest.
When Kai opened it, he found it filled with large gold coins—perhaps thousands of them.
Kai looked back at the white water dragon and smiled broadly.
"That’s a lot of money. With this much, I can get you beautiful dresses and delicious food."
The white water dragon looked pleased. "I heard you can bring food from Earth, right?"
Kai’s smile faded upon hearing that. "You... know about Earth?" Kai asked.
The water dragon nodded, "Yes! I’ve lived for hundreds of years, and Earth is an interesting place. I just visited it before my eyes were blinded by that demon king... I really miss the food from there. I love burgers, spaghetti, lasagna, fried rice, mochi... basically, I love it all!"
Kai fell silent; a feeling he couldn’t quite put into words was churning inside him. However, he tried to stay calm. So he smiled again and then asked Peoni and Lily to give the white water dragon a proper room.
The white water dragon said her name was Nagisha, then she followed Peoni and Lily to the guest room.
The commotion finally died down, though they were still afraid of Nagisha.
Kai returned to his room and saw Angeline curled up in a blanket, sitting on Kaileon’s bed.
Kai placed a small wooden chest on the table, then approached Angeline. Only then did he realize he was wearing nothing but a towel to cover his lower body.
He was about to go to the bathroom to change, but Angeline moved quickly to grab his arm.
"Kai! Don’t go!" the girl cried out, her face filled with fear and tears streaming down her pale cheeks.
"I’ll be back after I get dressed, Angel. I’m not wearing anything under my towel."
Hearing that, Angeline’s face turned red, so she let go of his hand.
"Don’t take too long," whispered Angeline, who seemed embarrassed.
Kai chuckled at Angeline’s cute reaction, then quickly went to change his clothes.
Not long after, Kai returned wearing pajamas, his hair still slightly damp.
The sweet scent emanating from the young man’s body made Angeline feel calmer.
Kai invited Angeline to sit on the balcony of his room.
"Let’s talk on my balcony..."
Angeline shook her head, looking worried.
"What if there’s another snake?" Angeline asked.
In the end, Kai gave in, and they just sat on the big sofa in Kaileon’s room.
Kai bought Angeline a chocolate parfait from his supermarket system because she loved it.
With the chocolate parfait in hand, Angeline felt calmer.
"Actually, why are you so afraid of snakes?" Kai asked.
Angeline sighed heavily, then replied, "It happened when I was little. I was pretty close to the Crown Prince of Nagreize... Princess Anabelle’s older brother. At the time, I was walking in the flower garden with the Crown Prince; we were picking beautiful flowers, eating sweet snacks... then suddenly there was a huge snake—a cobra. I would’ve been bitten by the snake if the Crown Prince hadn’t been there. Then Princess Anabelle came and laughed at me. After finding out I was afraid of snakes, Princess Anabelle would always scare me with a toy snake that looked just like the real thing. Because of that, I’m very afraid of snakes. One day, I woke up from my sleep, and when I pulled back the blanket, there was already a snake sleeping next to me. The snake moved, so I was terrified. It turned out to be a non-venomous snake, but I was so terrified that I fainted. Forgive me for being so weak, I—"
"Enough, you don’t need to apologize. Everyone has their own weaknesses. I’m afraid of things too—after all, snakes are scary... and Nagisha is a white water dragon. She does look like a snake, but she’s actually different."
Angeline looked at Kai with teary eyes, "She won’t bite me, will she?"
Kai chuckled and shook his head, "No... I’m sure she won’t bite you. If you’re scared, I—"
"I can sleep with you, right?"
Kai fell silent upon hearing that.
Although there hadn’t been an official celebration yet—since they were waiting for Kai to turn exactly fifteen—Angeline was already officially his fiancée.
In this world, it was the same as a marriage bond, though they weren’t officially married yet. Kai had to wait until he turned seventeen to get officially married.
An engagement was like a bond for those under seventeen.
Even so, it felt very awkward to be in the same bed. Even though it was actually highly recommended that they do so.
Seeing Kai’s hesitation, Angeline spoke again.
"If you don’t like it, then I—"
"It’s okay, you can sleep here if you want, Angeline... after all, you’re my fiancée. It’s my duty to keep you company if you’re scared. What do you usually do to calm your fears, besides eating sweets?" Kai asked.
Angeline seemed calmer then; she smiled broadly and told him everything she liked.
"Usually my mom would come, hug me, and sing to me. Mom has a beautiful voice, and I love being hugged... she’d also kiss my cheek and whisper that she loves me so much. I mean, you don’t have to do that—I’m just saying that usually, my mom..."
Angeline fell silent as Kai began to do what her mother usually did.
He hugged Angeline.
Although it felt very different, Kai hugged Angeline from behind, gently wrapping his arms around her waist, then kissing the top of her head.
Kai began to sing a song Angeline had never heard before.
Kaileon’s voice was very melodious; it sounded soft to her ears, making her feel at ease.
Angeline began to gaze at Kaileon’s handsome face, feeling in awe of her handsome fiancé.
Before she knew it, Angeline brought their faces closer and kissed Kai on the lips.
Kai was startled at first, but then he smiled.
He returned the kiss.
