Chapter 79: 79. Sea siren

"Please forgive me, young master!"

Kai was startled when Jo suddenly knelt before him.

"Jo, why—"

Kai crouched down in front of Jo and patted his shoulder. Slowly, Jo lifted his face to look at Kai.

"What do you want?" Kai asked the sea siren. He didn’t step out of the protective dome he’d created, so the monster couldn’t reach him.

"We really need your help... truly! I’m sure you have some healing potions, don’t you? You have healing magic," said the sea siren.

Kai let out a heavy sigh, then asked again.

"All right, but what will you offer in exchange? Healing potions are vital to us as well... so it doesn’t make sense for me to give away such important healing potions to you, who are—"

"We promise! We won’t approach humans again, or any other land creatures, unless we’re cornered or attacked first. Besides, we can still eat sea creatures or other sea monsters. But we need those healing potions for our injured friends. As payment, you can take gold, or anything else from inside this box."

The sea siren held out a medium-sized wooden box to Kai, which he then took hesitantly.

When Kai opened the box, he saw various unique items inside, including gold and diamond jewelry.

But it wasn’t the jewelry that Kai took; instead, he chose something that his detection magic identified as a special device that allows anyone wearing it to hold their breath underwater—as long as the item is still being worn.

It was a necklace that served as an ancient water magic artifact.

"I’ll trade this necklace for ten bottles of healing potion. How about that?" Kai asked.

The sea siren smiled happily, but after seeing what Kai had taken, she furrowed her brow in confusion.

"You took that worthless necklace? What about the gold and diamond jewelry?" asked the monster.

Kai shook his head, then returned the wooden box after taking the necklace.

"What’s valuable to each creature is obviously different. This necklace is valuable to me because it helps me dive underwater when I want to hunt for fish, shrimp, lobster, or crab. To you, it’s worthless because you already have that ability as a sea creature. Wait here for a moment; I’ll go get the healing potions for you."
