Chapter 139: Chapter 140: So It Was Them
Li Yang turned his head and saw an old man had appeared, staring at him warily.
"Who the hell are you people?" Li Yang had no patience for this kind of baffling situation. "If you don’t start talking," he said irritably, "I won’t be so polite."
The old man hadn’t expected his three experts to be taken down in an instant. He was both shocked and angry. "You’re asking who *we* are?"
’How the hell should I know who you are?’ Li Yang thought.
"Are you fucking crazy?" Li Yang’s temper flared. "Not talking, huh? I’ll cripple you first and we can talk later."
"Wait..." The old man said, a bitter taste in his mouth. "It’s not that I can’t tell you..."
"Uncle Zhong, get out of the way!" But just then, the flash of a blade sliced through the air from behind.
"Watch out!" Shang Hongyun cried out, startled, quickly warning Li Yang.
Li Yang immediately leaped back.
The blade’s edge passed scant inches from the tip of his nose.
Li Yang steadied himself and saw a tall woman in leather pants standing before him.
She had long, flowing hair and held a long knife in one hand. Her entire body was clad in black leather, accentuating her graceful figure.
To suddenly encounter a woman like this at night made Li Yang’s heart skip a beat.
’She’s gorgeous!’
’But this woman is dangerous,’ he thought. ’She almost killed me the moment we met.’
"Hei Feng, don’t be reckless!" Uncle Zhong said.
Hei Feng stared at Li Yang, her face radiating killing intent.
Li Yang’s anger surged. ’You think you can just kill people because you’re pretty? We’ll see about that.’
"Eat my fist!" Without another word, Li Yang threw a punch straight at Hei Feng.
Hei Feng’s expression was blank. Seeing Li Yang’s advance, she swung her long knife, aiming for his hand.
But Li Yang’s speed was incredible. He retracted his fist and twisted his body to the side, dodging by a hair’s breadth and closing the distance to Hei Feng in the same motion.
Hei Feng was shocked, but by the time she realized what was happening, it was too late.
Li Yang dropped his shoulder and rammed it into Hei Feng’s chest.
A powerful force slammed into her. She couldn’t help but stumble back several steps before managing to regain her footing.
In that one exchange, the difference in their skill was clear.
"Are you looking to die?!" Li Yang’s killing intent flared.
"Wait!" The old man could already see that his group was no match for Li Yang. "We mean you no harm..." he said quickly.
Li Yang laughed. ’You were ready to kill me, and you say you mean no harm?’
"We just wanted you to ask that Gui Fa to take us to see the giant snake," the old man explained hurriedly.
Li Yang froze. He stopped and looked at them. "You’re with Master Chi?"
It all made sense!
"No, no, no..." The old man shook his head. "To be precise, Master Chi was looking for the giant snake because he accepted a job from us. We only found out about all this because we heard you stopped him."
Li Yang frowned.
"What’s really going on?"
"We have need of the giant snake..." The old man’s initial plan had been to pressure Li Yang into getting Gui Fa to agree, which would let them find the snake. But now it was clear they were no match for him, so that approach was a dead end. He had to think of another way.
"Why?" Li Yang asked.
"Because..." The old man found it difficult to say.
"Spit it out or don’t. I’m not interested," Li Yang said.
’I was planning on sorting out the proprietress tonight,’ he thought. ’I don’t have time to mess around with you people.’
"That giant snake has medicinal value. We need its gallbladder." Seeing Li Yang was about to lose his temper again, the old man had no choice but to speak up. "It’s a matter of life and death for our Young Miss, so I’d like to ask for your help."
"Huh?" Li Yang was stunned. "A snake’s gallbladder can save a life?"
"That’s right." The old man gave a bitter smile. "Our Young Miss suffers from a rare disease, and the doctors said this is the only thing that will work. Master Chi heard there was one in Taomu Village, which is why he came here to get it."
"Do you have any idea that Master Chi almost got someone killed?" Li Yang said furiously. "He had someone guide him, then pushed that person toward the giant snake."
"Yes, what he did was indeed dishonorable." The old man actually hadn’t known about this, and he silently cursed Master Chi’s ancestors eighteen generations back. "We will punish him for it. But please, Mr. Li, I beg you to think of our Young Miss."
"What kind of illness does your Young Miss have?" Li Yang asked.
"What good would it do if you knew?" Hei Feng said coldly.
"I’m a doctor. I’m the village doctor here!" Li Yang said, annoyed. "If you tell me, maybe I can treat your Young Miss."
"That won’t be necessary!" The old man sounded embarrassed, clearly not believing in Li Yang’s medical skills. "Uh, we have top-tier doctors looking after her. We just need to follow their instructions."
Li Yang knew they didn’t trust him. "Fine," he said irritably. "Go listen to them, then. And don’t come looking for me."
With that, Li Yang turned to leave.
"Wait!" the old man said anxiously. "What... what exactly do you want?"
