Chapter 26 - 27: Class Reunion

Chapter 26: Chapter 27: Class Reunion

’It can’t be him. How could Boss Su be working with him?’

She steeled herself, put her things down, and went to the front for a look at Li Yang.

It was him, alright. Li Yang.

Li Yang looked up at that same moment. He was momentarily stunned to see He Hui there, but he quickly smiled and gave a small nod.

He Hui stood there, dumbfounded. She couldn’t believe it.

"You may all leave now," Su Yunmeng said to them.

Dazed, He Hui followed the others out of the room.

"Are you sure you can cultivate this?" Su Yunmeng finally asked the core question.

"Shouldn’t be a problem." Li Yang took out the flower and handed it to her. "You can study this first. I’ll figure out a way to supply the raw materials, so don’t you worry."

"Alright," Su Yunmeng said with a slight smile.

...

Outside, He Hui was still in a daze.

This was her first job after graduating from college. Landing a position at a major company like Su Yunmeng’s was a very high starting point for her career.

When she saw Li Yang the other day, she’d been deliberately distant. After all, they were worlds apart—one in the heavens, the other on the earth.

’You’re stuck scrabbling for a living in the countryside, while I... after a few years of experience, I could become a business elite.’

’And now? It turns out this is Li Yang’s company.’

This dealt a heavy blow to her pride.

Liu Qian, completely oblivious to what had just happened, walked over.

"Looks like I scared that guy off. Good thing he knows his place. If he’d made a scene here at the company, imagine how bad it would’ve looked for us!"

"Oh, by the way, since we’ve officially started our jobs here, what do you say we celebrate? I heard the Grand Golden Pavilion Hotel is nice. Why don’t we go there for dinner tonight?" Seeing He Hui’s silence, Liu Qian assumed she agreed and continued smugly, "Huihui, that guy had some nerve following you all the way here. He’s definitely up to no good. Even though we chased him off this time, he might just show up again. We need to make things crystal clear with him. Tell you what, I see a lot of our old classmates are doing pretty well for themselves here. Why don’t I call them all up? We have quite a few classmates in the city, we can have a reunion."

"Huh?" He Hui was taken aback. Her first instinct was to reveal Li Yang’s identity, but on second thought, she held her tongue.

’Li Yang is the boss here... If Liu Qian found out, she’d definitely try to steal him from me.’

’Li Yang still has some feelings for me. I could tell from the way he spoke to me when we ran into each other the other day.’

’Liu Qian is such a gold digger. If she knew Li Yang was the boss, she’d stop at nothing to snatch him away!’

With that thought, she nodded. "Sure, why not! Let’s do that. We can get everyone together for dinner tonight. It’s been a while since we all had a proper get-together anyway."

"Great!" Liu Qian nodded. "Oh, do you have Li Yang’s contact information? We should invite him to come, too."

"I don’t have it," He Hui said, shaking her head.

"Oh, right! Just ask Ha Er. Aren’t he and Li Yang pretty close? Have him invite Li Yang to the party." As she spoke, Liu Qian patted He Hui’s shoulder and added meaningfully, "We’re in a good company now. Don’t let him drag you down."

With that, she was gone.

He Hui said nothing.

...

Back in the office, Li Yang and Su Yunmeng were finishing up their conversation.

"Come on, let me treat you to a meal," Su Yunmeng said with a smile. "Speaking of which, I haven’t had the chance to treat you to dinner yet."

Just then, Li Yang got a WeChat message.

He opened it. It was from Ha Er, an old classmate he hadn’t heard from in a long time.

"Hey old classmate, we’re having a class reunion! I was told to invite you. Your old deskmate He Hui will be there, too!" Ha Er wrote, his tone teasing.

Li Yang hesitated for a moment before deciding to go.

"President Su..." Li Yang began.

"Don’t be so formal with me!" Su Yunmeng shook her head. "You get along so well with my Aunt Rong, so why are you so distant with me? Just call me Sister Su."

Li Yang scratched his head. ’I only get along with your aunt so well because I’m trying to hit on her!’

’Besides, your aunt really is easy to talk to. She’s much more open...’

"Sister Su," Li Yang said, trying out the name. "Some old classmates just invited me to dinner. How about we reschedule for next time?"

Su Yunmeng looked pleased. She nodded and said, "That’s fine. I’ll make proper arrangements for next time. Come over to my place, I’ll have my aunt cook for you."

"Alright!"

By the time he came downstairs, the employees had long since gone home for the day.

Li Yang got into his small pickup truck and pulled up the message from Ha Er. He couldn’t help but chuckle when he saw the location.

’The Grand Golden Pavilion Hotel!’

’I didn’t expect it to be Sister Han’s hotel. Well, what a coincidence. Might as well go.’

In truth, after seeing He Hui at the office and hearing what she had to say, Li Yang had already given up on the idea of reconnecting with her. Since she clearly wanted nothing to do with him, there was no point in courting rejection.

Besides, first loves might be beautiful, but they rarely last.

’My most important goal right now is Aunt Xiu. I need to make money and win her over.’

’Compared to Aunt Xiu, He Hui doesn’t even come close in any regard.’

Still, there was one thing he needed to clear up at the reunion tonight: he hadn’t been stalking her.

If he didn’t, what would that make him look like?

He drove his truck to the Grand Golden Pavilion Hotel.

It was peak dinner hour, and the Golden Pavilion Hotel was bustling with activity.

Li Yang was amazed. He’d only heard Han Qiuyue say business was good here, but he had no idea just *how* good.

’I can’t believe it’s really this packed.’

’No wonder Han Qiuyue was in such a hurry to get more supplies from me.’

"Hey, Li Yang!" Ha Er called out, jogging over to him.

Ha Er had been one of Li Yang’s closer friends in high school. They’d even kept in touch when they were both knocking around the city trying to make a living. He had even visited Li Yang after he was beaten senseless, but they hadn’t really connected much after that.

Seeing that Li Yang seemed to be doing alright now, he was genuinely happy for him.

"Come on, let’s go in. I heard they’ve already booked a table!" Ha Er said with a grin. "You probably don’t know, but this Grand Golden Pavilion Hotel is insanely popular now. If you don’t make a reservation, you can’t even get a table."

Li Yang just smiled and followed him inside.

Once in the lobby, he saw that quite a few of their old classmates had already arrived.

After being apart for several years, classmates he hadn’t known well to begin with now felt like complete strangers. Li Yang scanned the room, but since no one greeted him, he kept to himself.

"You’re here!" Just then, Liu Qian and He Hui arrived, accompanied by another young man.

"You guys are fast!" Liu Qian said with a smile as she came forward to greet them. "Come on, everyone, we’ve already got a table booked."

"Who booked it?" one of the classmates couldn’t help but ask.

"Let me introduce you. This is Zhao Kang, a friend of mine," Liu Qian said, gesturing to the man beside her. "He’s the one who booked the table, and he’s also treating us tonight."

"Please, don’t be strangers. Come on, let’s go upstairs and get settled before we chat," Zhao Kang said, looking them all over with an air of importance.
