Chapter 31: Chapter 32: Dog Thief

"Are you going to find him or not?!" Qin Susu was getting impatient.

They had already driven out of the city, but there was still no sign of him.

"Get out. He’s in there!" Li Yang didn’t waste a second. He slammed the brakes and bolted in that direction.

"Wait for me!" Qin Susu scrambled after him.

As Li Yang rushed forward, he was hit by an overwhelming stench coming from inside.

The sound of incessant barking also poured out from within.

’So many dogs!’

"They’re really dog thieves!" Qin Susu realized, grinding her teeth in anger.

Just then, someone inside must have heard them. A man covered in blood emerged, a knife in his hand dripping with fresh blood.

It looked like he had just slaughtered a dog.

"What do you want?" he asked, eyeing the three of them warily.

Qin Susu instinctively took a couple of steps back, but she still managed to say, "I... Is my dog in there? Let my dog out!"

The man immediately glared at her. "What are you talking about? ’Your dog’? Get lost! There’s no dog for you here. Scram, or things are going to get ugly!"

From his reaction, it was clear she had hit a nerve.

"My dog is in there! Dahuang..." Qin Susu shouted stubbornly.

A sudden bark came from inside, as if in response to Qin Susu’s call.

"That’s Dahuang’s bark! Cousin, did you hear that?" Qin Susu jumped for joy. "Quick! Let my dog out now!"

"Dammit!" The man grew flustered and bellowed toward the building, "Get out here!"

In an instant, four or five burly men emerged. Some held clubs, others knives, and all of them stared menacingly at the group.

Qin Susu and Han Qiuyue both took a few steps back, fear showing on their faces.

Tears welled up in Qin Susu’s eyes. She was terrified but couldn’t bring herself to leave.

"Let the dogs go." In contrast, Li Yang stepped forward, completely unafraid. "And another thing... for those of you who steal and slaughter dogs, does your conscience not bother you at all?"

Li Yang wasn’t particularly fond of dogs, having grown up in the countryside.

Rural areas were full of mutts, and those that were kept were usually guard dogs, which tended to be aggressive.

As a child, Li Yang had been chased by large mutts more than a few times.

But even so, he could never bring himself to be this cruel to a dog.

Besides, at their core, these men were just thieves.

"Damn it, you motherf*cker, mind your own damn business! You looking to die?!" A vicious look flashed across the man’s face as he brandished his knife.

"So you think you’re above the law, is that it?" Li Yang roared, glaring at him. "Let all these dogs go, right now! Or I’ll make you regret it!"

"F*ck it! Get him!" The man was completely enraged and bellowed at his cronies.

"Don’t come any closer! I’ve already called the police!" Han Qiuyue had, in fact, just done so.

"You motherf*cker, you dared to call the cops!" The man was even more furious. "Get them! Beat them to death!"

But just then, Li Yang sprang forward and kicked the man square in the chest.

THUD! The man went flying backward, landing in a heap on the ground, unable to get up.

The other men froze, stunned.

In the second they were distracted, Li Yang was on them.

All they could see was a blur of motion before they were on the ground, screaming in agony.

Han Qiuyue had been about to tell Li Yang to stop so they could run—the police would be arriving soon to handle it, after all.

But when she looked again, she saw that all the men were already on the ground.

"He really is a beast!" Qin Susu muttered, dumbfounded.

The men were groaning and whimpering on the ground, all their earlier arrogance gone.

Li Yang ignored them and rushed into the abandoned factory.

Inside, he saw dozens of dog cages. Some held only one or two dogs, while others were crammed with three or four.

Some of the dogs were covered in wounds and gave off a foul stench.

Others were on the verge of death, looking like they could breathe their last at any moment.

"Dahuang!" Qin Susu spotted the cage holding Dahuang and rushed forward, unlatching it as she called his name.

"ARF! ARF!" Dahuang leaped out and affectionately nuzzled Qin Susu’s leg, before trotting over to Li Yang and nudging his leg insistently.

"You traitor!" Qin Susu stomped her foot in frustration. "I’m your owner!"

Li Yang couldn’t help but chuckle. He said teasingly, "Dahuang knows I’m the one who saved him, so he’s showing his gratitude. You don’t get it at all. I really don’t know why he sticks with you. Hey Dahuang, why don’t you come live with me instead?"

"Live with you?" Any shred of gratitude Qin Susu felt toward Li Yang vanished the moment he said that. "Get real. Could you even afford to feed my dog?"

But to her surprise, Dahuang seemed delighted by the idea. He immediately sat down at Li Yang’s feet and looked up at Qin Susu alongside him, as if she were a stranger.

"You stupid dog!" Qin Susu fumed.

Han Qiuyue couldn’t help but smile, though she found it strange that this big yellow dog had taken such a liking to Li Yang.

"Hmph! I’m ignoring you now!" Qin Susu turned away in a huff. "These poor dogs... being abused like this. I have to let them all go..."

With that, she went from cage to cage, opening the iron latches one by one.

In less than a minute, she had already opened more than a dozen cages.

The dogs barked madly as they poured out of the cages and bolted for the exit.

"Stop!" Li Yang’s expression suddenly changed. He sprinted deeper into the factory, shouting, "Don’t let them out!"
