Chapter 73 - 74: What’s Wrong With You

Chapter 73: Chapter 74: What’s Wrong With You

Li Yang immediately called the Donghu Passenger Station.

But no one picked up.

’That makes sense. They’ve already gone home for the day. Looks like I’ll have to call again tomorrow.’

Having made up his mind, Li Yang muted everyone in the group chat and posted a message: "We’ll have two buses running the day after tomorrow. For those who just signed up, if you won’t be free then, you can let me know now and withdraw. If any spots open up, I’ll announce it, and people can sign up at that time."

After he unmuted them, the group chat immediately became lively again.

Not a single person dropped out.

’Not bad, not bad at all! Excellent!’

The next day, Li Yang called Donghu Station first thing in the morning.

"Hello, how may I help you?" a professional-sounding voice answered.

"Hello, I’d like to discuss some business with your Manager Niu. Could you transfer me to him, please?"

"Um, this is our main line. You can tell me what your business is," the customer service representative replied, deflecting the request.

"Manager Niu is expecting this call about something important. If you delay it, can you take responsibility for the consequences?" Li Yang said, raising his voice.

The person on the other end was startled. "Okay, please hold on. I’ll transfer you right away."

Soon, another, deeper voice came on the line.

"Hello, who’s this? This is Niu Wei."

"Hello, Manager Niu. My name is Li Yang. I heard you rent out buses, is that right? I’d like to rent two for tomorrow, leaving at six in the morning."

"What are you renting them for?" Niu Wei asked curiously.

"Nothing illegal," Li Yang said with a smile. "Just organizing a fishing trip for some fellow anglers."

"Where are you going?" Niu Wei pressed.

"Manager Niu, that’s..." Li Yang grew wary.

"We do rent out our vehicles, but we have to file a report," Niu Wei said seriously. "If you don’t even tell me the destination, how can I rent them to you?"

"Bishui Village in Gaodi Town." ’That makes sense,’ Li Yang thought.

"Oh, I see!" CLICK. The person on the other end hung up.

Li Yang froze.

’Damn it, I’ve been set up!’

On the other end, Liu Jinsheng roared with laughter. "Bishui Village in Gaodi Town, huh? Now I know! Brother Niu, I really owe you one for this!"

Manager Niu, holding a red envelope, chuckled. "Younger Brother Liu, no need to be so formal with me. How long have we been working together? I’d never leave you out in the cold. You can rest easy."

"Alright, I’ll send two buses out tomorrow, then. Same time as always."

"Done!"

「...」

The moment the line went dead, Li Yang knew something was wrong.

’It had to be Liu Jinsheng!’

’They’ve been working together for so long. After I tricked him, Liu Jinsheng must have figured he’d cut me off at the source.’

’Damn it, I was too careless!’

Li Yang immediately got in his car and drove straight to the Donghu Passenger Station.

As soon as he arrived, he went looking for Niu Wei.

He found Niu Wei’s office easily enough. It was almost lunchtime.

When Li Yang walked in, Niu Wei was just about to head out for lunch.

"Manager Niu..." Li Yang said, stopping him. "My name is Li Yang. I’m the one who called you this morning about renting the buses."

Niu Wei was taken aback. He hadn’t expected the guy to show up at his door.

But he wasn’t afraid. ’This is my turf,’ he thought. ’Besides, I’m the one who decides who rents the buses. It’s useless to complain to anyone else.’

"Oh, so you tracked me down here?" Niu Wei chuckled. "Alright, there’s nothing to discuss. Go on home."

"Manager Niu, did Liu Jinsheng say something to you?" Li Yang asked.

Niu Wei sneered. ’You come to see me empty-handed and still expect me to rent you buses?’

’As if!’

Seeing his silence, Li Yang understood. "How about this: I have no problem with you renting buses to him, but I want to rent some too. That’s not against the rules, is it?"

"I don’t want to rent to you. Can’t I do that?" Niu Wei was getting angry. ’This kid doesn’t know how things work.’ "Get out of here right now, or I’m calling security."

"Manager Niu, there’s no need for that," Li Yang said, his own anger rising. ’I haven’t done anything to offend you, Niu. Why are you treating me like this?’

"Do I need you to teach me how to do my job?" Niu Wei said, annoyed. "Now get the hell out, or I’m done being polite!"

Li Yang was seething, but just then, he suddenly saw a red line on Niu Wei’s body.

’He’s sick!’

Li Yang paused for a second, then gave a cold smirk. "Manager Niu, if you agree to my request, I might just save your life. But if you don’t... well, that little illness you have... it might become incurable."

"Nonsense!" Niu Wei roared. "Who are you calling sick?"

"Have you been feeling heart palpitations recently? Trouble sleeping at night?" Li Yang retorted coldly. "And you’re always nauseous, feeling like you have to throw up? When it gets worse, you feel a tightness in your chest, like a heavy stone is pressing down on your heart. Am I right?"

At first, Niu Wei paid him no mind, feeling more angry than anything. But Li Yang’s words shocked him. He stared at Li Yang in astonishment. "You... how could you know that?"

He’d been to the hospital several times for it, but they couldn’t find anything wrong.

"There’s a problem with your lungs..." Li Yang said coldly. "In ancient medical texts, a condition like this isn’t considered an illness. It’s a parasite."

"That’s ridiculous!" Niu Wei said, suspicious again. "If there really was a parasite, the tests would have found it by now."
