I walked three blocks down the busy city street. The sun was shining, and people were drinking coffee outside cafes. It didn't look like a place where a crime ring would operate.

I reached the address May gave me. It was a large building with a sign that read Aegis Private Training Facility.

The front glass doors were shattered.

"Captain May, I'm here," I whispered, tapping the earpiece. "The front doors are broken."

"Understood," May’s voice crackled in my ear. "Moby and his crew are inside. They are trying to crack the vault where we store the Training Cores. Proceed with caution."

I stepped carefully through the broken glass and entered the lobby. It was quiet. The receptionist's desk was empty.

I walked down a long hallway toward the back of the building. I heard voices echoing from a large room ahead.

I stopped at the edge of the doorway and peeked inside.

The room was a massive indoor Training Zone. It looked like a giant gymnasium, but the floor was covered in scorch marks and craters.

In the center of the room, three men were standing around a thick steel vault door built into the floor. Two of the men were using blowtorches, trying to melt the hinges.

The third man was standing watch. It was Moby.

He looked exactly like his picture. Shaved head, scar on his cheek, and a muscular build. He was wearing a tight black shirt, and his skin had a metallic shine to it. That was his Kinetic Armor Blessing.

"Hurry up," Moby growled at the two men. "Aegis alarms are probably already ringing."

"Almost through the second hinge," one of the men grunted.

I pulled back behind the wall and opened my Status Screen.

HP: 180/180

BP: 95/95

I needed to take out the two guys with the blowtorches first. If I fought Moby while they were helping him, I would lose.

Ideally, I needed to attack while they were distracted.

I targeted the air directly around the two men with the blowtorches with pressure.

I rapidly decreased the atmospheric pressure around their heads, creating a vacuum. I sucked all the oxygen out of the air right where they were breathing.

Cost: 10 BP.

It was completely silent.

The two men took a breath, got no air, and immediately dropped their blowtorches. They grabbed their throats, their eyes wide with panic. They stumbled backward and collapsed onto the floor, unconscious from lack of oxygen.

Moby turned around, startled by the sound of the blowtorches hitting the ground.

He saw his men lying on the floor but didn't know what had happened. There was no explosion, no flash of light. They just fell over.

"Who's there?!" Moby yelled. His skin started to glow with a dull light. His armor was activating.

I stepped out from behind the wall.

"Hey," I said.

Moby glared at me. "Who the hell are you? You don't look like an Aegis guy."

"I'm the new guy," I said.

Moby laughed. "They sent a kid to stop me? I'm Level 15, kid. My armor can take a hit from a speeding truck. You can't hurt me."

"I know," I said. "That's why I'm not going to hit you."

Moby raised his fists and charged at me.

He was incredibly fast. His Level 15 stats made him move like a blur. He crossed the gym in less than two seconds, pulling his fist back for a massive punch.

I focused on the floor directly under Moby’s feet and flash-froze the moisture in the air, creating a perfectly frictionless sheet of ice right in his path.

Moby stepped on the ice while running at full speed.

His Kinetic Armor made him heavy and tough, but it didn't give him magical grip. His feet flew out from under him.

He lost his balance completely. Instead of punching me, he fell forward and slammed face-first into the floor.

Because he was moving so fast, his momentum carried him. He slid across the ice like a hockey puck, spinning out of control.

He crashed violently into the thick steel vault door at the center of the room.

Moby’s armor absorbed the impact, so he wasn't crushed, but the sudden stop rattled his brain. He groaned and tried to push himself up.

"You little punk," Moby spat, shaking his head.

He was tough. I needed to finish this before he got his footing back.

I looked at my BP. 80/95.

It was time to show him what an S-Tier Blessing could really do.

Moby pushed himself up onto his hands and knees. His silver skin glowed brighter. The impact against the steel vault had actually made his Kinetic Armor stronger.

"Is that all you've got?" Moby growled. "A little ice trick?"

He stood up slowly, angry. "I'm going to break your legs."

"Captain May," I whispered, tapping my earpiece. "Does his armor protect his lungs?"

"No," May replied immediately. "It only hardens his skin and muscles against physical trauma. He still needs to breathe."

Perfect.

Moby charged at me again. This time, he was more careful. He watched the floor, making sure I didn't freeze it again.

I waited until he was ten feet away.

Then, I used Master of the Elements.

Moby was Level 15; his Constitution was high. He could probably hold his breath for a long time and still punch my head off.

Therefore, I focused on the air directly in front of his face. I rapidly dropped the temperature and made it painfully cold.

Cost: 10 BP.

Moby ran straight into the pocket of freezing air. He gasped in shock as the icy wind hit his face.

When he gasped, he inhaled the freezing air directly into his lungs.

He stopped running and grabbed his chest, his eyes going wide.

Breathing in sub-zero air causes the moisture inside your lungs to crystallize. It feels like inhaling glass. His Kinetic Armor couldn't protect his internal organs from the temperature drop.

Moby fell to his knees, coughing violently. His silver armor started to fade as his concentration broke.

"Can't... breathe..." he choked out, clutching his throat.

I walked up to him.

"I told you," I said. "I wasn't going to hit you."

I focused on the atmospheric pressure directly above his head and created a concentrated downdraft of wind, pushing straight down on his shoulders.

Cost: 5 BP.

The invisible weight slammed down on him, forcing him flat against the floor. He tried to push up, but his lungs were burning, and the wind pressure was too strong.

He lay there, pinned to the ground, gasping for air.

"Yield," I said. "Or I freeze the air in your throat completely."

Moby looked up at me. His face was pale as he realized I wasn't bluffing. His Level 15 strength meant absolutely nothing against my S-Tier Blessing.

He slowly raised a shaking hand and tapped the floor twice.

He surrendered.

I canceled the freezing air and released the wind pressure. Moby stayed on the floor, taking painful breaths of normal air.

A gold notification popped up in my vision.

[Quest Complete: Defeat the Zone Looters.]

[Target: Level 15 Villain Defeated.]

[Reward: +500 XP]

Five hundred XP. That was massive.

Another gold notification flashed immediately after.

[Experience Points (XP) threshold reached.]

[Level Up!]

The warm rush of energy washed over me again. My mind felt even sharper.

I was Level 5.

I tapped my earpiece. "Captain May. The targets are down and the vault is secure."

"Excellent work, Shay," May said. "I am sending an Aegis containment team to your location now. They will handle the arrests."

"What about my payout?" I asked.

"Ten thousand dollars will be transferred to your account immediately," May replied. "And since the vault was untouched, you can take any three Cores from the room as a bonus."

I smiled. "Thanks, Captain."

I walked over to the two unconscious men with the blowtorches. They had dropped a duffel bag when they fell. I opened it. Inside were five blue Training Cores they had already stolen from the front desk.

I took three of them and put them in my hoodie pockets.

I looked at Moby. He was sitting up now, leaning against the vault, still coughing quietly, defeated.

"You're a monster," Moby muttered, glaring at me. "You didn't even fight me."

"Fighting is too much work," I said.

I turned around and walked out of the Training Zone leaving Moby and his crew on the floor for the Aegis team to clean up.

I stepped out of the doors and back onto the city street taking a deep breath of the air.

I opened my Status Screen.

Name: Shay Fawn

Level: 5

Unallocated Attribute Points: 5

I put all five points into Wisdom, raising my Max BP to 120.

I was getting stronger. Richer. And I was doing it all by being laz—efficient. Not lazy but efficient.

I liked being a Pro Hero.
