The System Keeps Making Me Do Indecent Missions [BL, R18]
Chapter 40: Rabid dogChapter 40: Chapter 40: Rabid dog
Dominic Vance stood frozen beside the bed, his entire body exuding a bone-chilling aura of frost. The warm orange glow of the nightstand lamp, which usually brought a sense of coziness, now only served to make the atmosphere in the room feel increasingly gloomy and suffocating.
The entire room was terrifyingly silent, leaving only the ticking of the clock and the rapid, broken breaths of Lucien. He sat huddled in the corner of the bed, his red eyes brimming with tears, while his bony hands still trembled violently, gripping the edge of the blanket as if it were his sole lifeline.
Yet, that pitiful demeanor was obviously just an act Lucien put on deliberately. It was true that Dominic Vance discovering the deafness in one of this body’s ears so early had caused his upcoming plans to fall slightly out of rhythm. However, it did not matter at all, as he could completely turn this to his advantage, playing perfectly into the man’s possessiveness and inner conflict at this very moment.
Meanwhile, the voice of System 000 also popped into his mind, projecting that eccentric and gossipy alternate personality: [Host, you are truly masterful, to be able to fake it to such an extent.]
"I did not pretend just to get caught." Lucien silently replied: "He found out on his own, and I merely took advantage of the situation at the right time."
[True, true, but the effect is undeniably excellent. The favorability rating is skyrocketing in the direction of... a crazed possessiveness.]
Dominic Vance finally moved. He slowly sat down on the edge of the bed, the weight of the man causing the mattress to sink significantly, which made Lucien involuntarily shudder.
He only stared at Lucien, his eyes darkened with indistinguishable emotions, his voice so low it sounded as though it was hissed through gritted teeth: "How long has it been?"
Lucien feigned bewilderment, his tear-soaked eyes blinking softly, his voice thick and hoarse: "What... what did you say?"
"The ear." Dominic Vance ground out every single word, his gaze piercing into the right ear that the boy was desperately trying to conceal with his hairL: "I am asking you, how long has it been like this?"
Lucien remained silent. He lowered his head deeply, hot, involuntary tears tumbling down onto the backs of his bony hands. The silence stretched on like centuries, until Dominic Vance felt as though he was about to lose all of his patience, then the boy finally spoke in a small voice, a sound so fragile it seemed the wind could blow it away: "Many years. Since... I was still in school."
"Why did you not get it treated?" Dominic Vance furrowed his brows tightly. With the background of the Sinclair family, no matter how much they alienated him, treating a deaf ear would not be an overwhelmingly difficult matter.
Lucien suddenly let out a laugh. It was a smile so faint it dripped with bitterness, and he raised his tear-drenched eyes to look at the man, every word slipping from his lips like a dagger plunging into the listener’s heart: "Father said... a deaf person does not need to spend that much money. Saving that money for Miles Sinclair to learn the piano, to study painting... would be much better."
"Bang!"
Dominic Vance could not restrain himself from slamming a heavy punch into the mattress. He felt as if a volcano was waiting to erupt violently within his chest. As it turned out, behind the glamorous facade of the Sinclair family, behind the grand title of the eldest young master, Lucien had been forced to live a life so utterly cheap and worthless.
An image suddenly flashed across Dominic Vance’s mind, a younger, frailer Lucien, surrounded by malicious tormentors, beaten until he was bleeding profusely without a single person stepping forward to defend him. How had the boy managed to fight against that darkness and that deafening silence all by himself?
Dominic Vance pondered extensively, feeling both frustrated and furious, completely at a loss on how to handle the situation. Ultimately, the man could only issue a command in a deep voice, though his tone had softened considerably: "Sit still."
Lucien was exceptionally sensitive around that area. The moment the man’s fingertips brushed against it, Lucien’s entire body trembled violently, and his breathing became erratic. He instinctively wanted to shrink his neck back, trying to escape the physical contact.
Dominic Vance assumed the boy was terrified that he would raise a hand to strike him just like those abusers in the past. He let out a long breath, coaxing in a low, gentle voice, murmuring a sentence he probably never thought he would utter to anyone in his entire life: "Be good... I will not hit you. I am merely looking at the injury."
That sentence acted like a magic spell, causing the last remnants of Lucien’s defenses to crumble away completely. Because he was currently weak, coupled with the lingering fever still burning beneath his skin and his deep immersion into the role, Lucien genuinely felt out of breath. He unconsciously swayed forward, resting his forehead against the broad shoulders of Dominic Vance, his two feeble hands grasping onto the back of the man’s shirt.
Dominic Vance stiffened entirely.
This was the very first time since bringing the boy here that Lucien actively leaned on him for support, neither driven by coercion nor fueled by lust. This proactive gesture caused the man’s heart to tremble with a strange, unfamiliar rhythm.
[Host, Dominic Vance is wavering intensely. His brainwaves are in absolute chaos over there.] System 000 suddenly issued a warning: [It is highly recommended that the host slow down, do not overstimulate the man.]
Lucien wearily replied within his mind: "How am I supposed to slow down? I have not even made him pay the price for everything he has done to me yet."
[But you are genuinely turning him into a mad dog. Just look at the look in his eyes...]
"I only need him to fall in love. To love me so deeply that he cannot survive without me."
[But he is the exact type who would lock his beloved in a golden cage once he falls in love. Are you absolutely certain you want to play with fire?]
Lucien offered no response, he simply burrowed deeper into the crook of the man’s neck, greedily inhaling that masculine scent blended with the lingering coolness of the bathwater.
A long while later, upon feeling that Lucien’s breathing had become steady and even, proving that the boy had drifted off to sleep from sheer exhaustion, Dominic Vance finally set him down with utmost care. He tucked the blankets tightly around the boy, then took long strides out onto the balcony, where the piercingly cold night wind wildly tossed his slightly damp hair.
He pulled out his phone and dialed a string of numbers.
"Boss, is there a problem?" The assistant’s voice rang out, sounding somewhat groggy with sleep but snapping instantly to full alertness the moment he heard Dominic Vance’s freezing tone.
"Go and investigate the entirety of Lucien Sinclair’s past for me." Dominic Vance stared into the boundless night, his gaze as sharp as a blade: "I want to know everything about the incident with his ear, as well as the school bullying from those years ago. Who participated, who was the mastermind..."
"Yes, understood, sir."
Hanging up the phone, Dominic Vance stood silently in the midst of the night for a very long time. This was the very first instance where he truly, proactively interfered with another person’s past. It was not for the sake of business interests, nor was it for a commercial marriage arrangement, but purely and simply because he wanted to tear to pieces those who had caused that young man to shatter so tragically.
He returned to the room, looking at Lucien who was sleeping restlessly upon the bed. The boy’s brows remained tightly knitted, and his pale lips would tremble slightly from time to time.
He stepped closer, leaning down to listen carefully.
"Please do not hit me... it hurts so much... Mom... save Lucien..." The fragmented whimpers slipping through the dream caused Dominic Vance’s hands to clench so tightly that the green veins bulged completely out.
He stood beside the bed, watching the boy for an eternity. Afterward, like a devoted believer paying his profound reverence before a fragile treasure, Dominic Vance slowly bent his body down.
He did not place a kiss upon those lips, nor did he kiss the forehead. He planted an exceptionally gentle, deeply cherished kiss over the ferocious scar near the right ear of Lucien.
His scalding breath fanned against the shell of the boy’s ear, his hoarse voice carrying a vicious oath heavily laced with absolute possession:
"From now on... whoever dares to touch even a single strand of your hair again, I will personally cripple them."
That night, Dominic Vance went nowhere else. He lay down beside the boy, wrapping his arms tightly to draw Lucien’s small body into his embrace, as if he were using his own sheer strength to banish away the nightmares and the phantoms of the past that were relentlessly haunting him.
He knew he had gone completely insane. However, compared to letting this person slip away from his embrace, he would much rather become a rabid dog.
