Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Cakes

Lucien trembled faintly, his hands gripping tightly onto the man’s arm. His legs were already shaking and giving out, no longer able to support his own body weight. But the detestable man behind him did not bother to hold him up, simply letting Lucien collapse into his embrace. It was just that Dominic did not do anything further out of line; he merely gave him a few more kisses and left it at that.

The man simply held him there, wrapped in his arms before the mirror, letting Lucien watch himself suspended halfway between lust and teasing.

This was a half-measure kind of torture that Dominic was growing increasingly addicted to. Never going all the way. Only continuously touching, kissing, and then stopping. Leaving Lucien’s body constantly in a state of taut tension, pliant, and entirely dependent on his every single movement.

It was only after quite some time that Dominic finally deigned to let him go. He picked up the cream silk shirt from earlier, personally draped it over Lucien’s shoulders, and slowly fastened every button. This time, he only buttoned two of them, leaving the collarbones and a portion of the chest completely exposed. Then, he leaned down and kissed Lucien’s forehead.

Out of nowhere, the man spoke up again: "When is your birthday?"

Lucien froze. His hand, which was gripping Dominic’s shoulder, stiffened for a brief second. Birthday. How long had it been since he last thought about that? The original body’s owner did not remember clearly either, for no one had ever celebrated his birthday before.

As for Lucien, he simply could not recall it on the spot; who would ever keep track of such a thing anyway? Despite his rambling thoughts, on the surface, Lucien still had to maintain his pitiful facade; he merely lowered his eyes, his eyelashes quivering, his voice trailing off until it was as faint as a wisp of smoke.

"Asking so suddenly, I almost forgot." He gave a self-deprecating smile: "August seventeenth, it is actually quite near."

Dominic said nothing, only playing with Lucien’s hair: "Do you like cake?"

Lucien nodded timidly, then whispered: "But I do not like it too sweet; too much buttercream is too cloying..."

It seemed as though he was about to add something else, but Lucien held back, only bowing his head and murmuring: "If, if you find it too troublesome, then anything is fine..."

Dominic let out a sigh and hoisted Lucien up. "Let’s go."

"Where to?"

"Change into some proper clothes, I am taking you to buy a cake. Whatever you like, you can tell the baker yourself so they can prepare it for you."

At the exact same time, in another part of the city, Miles Sinclair was standing in his private apartment, his face as dark and stormy as a tempest. The boxes of belongings that had been thrown out of the Vance family villa had been transported here by the servants. They were piled high in the living room, acting as a silent humiliation that he was forced to look at every single day.

News spread as fast as a wildfire catching the wind. In high society, no secret could be kept for long. After just one night, everyone knew that Miles, the young master of the Sinclair family and the supposed future fiancé of Dominic Vance, had been kicked to the curb from the villa like a mere freeloader. The young masters and ladies in their social circles began whispering behind his back. Some malicious individuals even went out of their way to send messages checking in on him, feigning concern when their true intent was mockery.

[Hey Miles, I heard your brother is still staying at the Vance family villa? How is CEO Vance treating him?]

[Do you need me to recommend a few apartments for you? After all, you must be in need of a new place to stay right now, aren’t you? Oh wait, I forgot, the Sinclair family villa is still there, look at me, my memory is always slipping these days.]

Every single message felt like a blade slashing at Miles’s pride.

He hurled his phone at the wall, causing it to shatter into a dozen fragmented pieces. Ever since the day he followed his mother and officially stepped into the Sinclair household, he had never been treated in such a manner. Father Sinclair was entirely wrapped around his mother’s finger, and thus Miles naturally became the golden child who got whatever he desired.

Yet now, the very person he thought he had kicked to the curb had turned around and bitten him back with agonizing force. Miles gritted his teeth; his mother was right from the very beginning, he really should have found a way to make Lucien disappear from this world entirely!

However, his wrath was quickly suppressed shortly after. Recently, Miles’s subordinates had reported back to him that someone seemed to be deliberately digging into past events concerning Lucien. Those thugs he had ordered back then to beat Lucien until he went deaf in one ear had all been dealt with. One was exposed for tax evasion and had the tax bureau breathing down his neck. Another had evidence of his adultery leaked, resulting in his wife demanding a divorce and his company suspending him from his position. Yet another was thrown straight into prison on charges of embezzling public funds.

Not a single one of them escaped, they had all been taken care of.

Miles knew full well that Dominic was making a move to vent anger on Lucien’s behalf, and that even today’s incident with his belongings being cleared out of the villa was part of it. But so what? It was obvious that Dominic knew he was the mastermind behind it all, yet there was nothing concrete the older man could actually do.

In high society, far too many things were bound to one another.

Miles let out a sneer, upon thinking up to this point, his tiny fraction of fear vanished completely.
