Chapter 93: Chapter 93: The engagement party

[The host has just undergone an intense sexual experience. The system recommends that the host rest to recover physical stamina.]

"I do not need your recommendations! I need you to explain why this guy is being so uncharacteristically gentle today? Is there some sort of conspiracy?"

[No conspiracies detected from the male lead. The male lead’s behavior falls within his established character traits.]

Lucien silently cursed in his mind. This system was truly useless beyond words. But whatever, at least he had flawlessly played the role of the frail and grateful youth today. That surely earned him quite a few necessary points.

Lost in his thoughts, Lucien suddenly felt Dominic Vance gently lifting him up. Startled, Lucien opened his eyes, only to find that Dominic was carrying him into the bathroom.

"What... what are you doing?"

"Bathing you." Dominic replied succinctly, then delicately placed Lucien into a bathtub that had already been drawn with warm water: "If you do not wash, you will catch a fever."

The warm water enveloped his fatigued body, prompting Lucien to exhale a sigh of relief. Dominic Vance sat beside the tub, holding a soft towel and gently wiping the traces of their intimacy off Lucien’s skin. Dominic’s movements were exceedingly tender, as if terrified of causing the boy any pain.

Lucien closed his eyes, allowing Dominic to tend to him.

"Go to sleep." Dominic Vance’s voice rang out softly: "Tomorrow, I will take you somewhere."

"Where to?" Lucien opened his eyes, asking curiously.

"To pick out a formal suit." Dominic replied, then paused briefly, as though weighing his words: "My mother wants to host a small banquet."

Three days later, the Vance family villa was resplendent under warm, golden lighting.

Mrs. Vance was a woman of elegance and authority. Despite being in her fifties, she still retained a striking beauty and the commanding aura of someone who had dominated the business world for decades. She was a rare soul within the Vance family who genuinely cherished Lucien, a fact that made him feel both deeply grateful and incredibly fortunate.

Although today’s banquet was described as "small", the decor was nothing short of extravagant. White silk ribbons were draped elegantly along the grand staircase, imported fresh flowers were arranged in exorbitant crystal vases, and the hazy golden glow from vintage chandeliers made the entire space resemble a painting of European aristocracy from the last century.

There were only about thirty guests, entirely comprised of relatives and the closest business partners of the Vance family. Dominic Vance had intentionally excluded the father and son from the Sinclair family, those who were associated with Miles Sinclair. This deliberate omission allowed Lucien to heave a silent sigh of relief.

Lucien stood before the large mirror in the dressing room, gazing at his reflection clad in a custom-tailored white suit. The suit hugged his slender frame perfectly, complementing his fair skin and silky hair. On his left wrist, the platinum bracelet that Dominic Vance had gifted him the previous night sparkled under the lights, acting as an unspoken declaration of ownership.

"You look like an angel." Dominic Vance stepped into the room, donning an immaculate black suit. Dominic stood behind Lucien, resting his hands on the youth’s shoulders as they looked into the mirror together.

Lucien smiled softly, a perfectly crafted expression of innocence mixed with a touch of feigned shyness that he had practiced hundreds of times, "Please stop teasing me."

"I am not teasing." Dominic bent down, placing a gentle kiss on the crown of Lucien’s head: "Let us go, my mother is waiting."

As the pair descended the stairs, every gaze in the room gravitated toward them. Lucien walked beside Dominic Vance, his hand resting lightly within the man’s large palm. Lucien’s demeanor was delicate, as fragile as a white petal, yet he radiated a peculiar magnetism that made it impossible for anyone to look away.

Mrs. Vance stood at the foot of the stairs, smiling with immense satisfaction at the sight of her son and her future daughter-in-law. She stepped forward, grasping Lucien’s hand: "Lucien looks breathtaking today. Come, let me introduce you to everyone."

Lucien nodded obediently, but inwardly, he was discreetly observing his surroundings. He noticed quite a few familiar faces among the guests, presumably a result of the original owner’s lingering memories.

The banquet proceeded smoothly.

Mrs. Vance formally announced the engagement between Dominic Vance and Lucien, which was met with rounds of congratulatory applause. Lucien stood beside Dominic, his face flushed with embarrassment and his eyes shimmering with unshed tears, which were actually produced by discreetly pinching his own thigh to perfect the act, while his hand remained tightly clasped within the man’s grip.

Throughout the entire party, Dominic Vance did not leave his side for even a single step. The man continuously held Lucien’s hand in his own, or rested a hand lightly upon Lucien’s waist, as though declaring to the world that this person belonged to him. However, the one thing that left Lucien slightly disappointed was that Dominic had yet to utter a single word of love.

"What a cold-faced block of ice." Lucien thought to himself, though outwardly he maintained his impossibly sweet smile.

As the gathering drew to a close, Lucien excused himself to step out onto the balcony for some fresh air. He leaned against the railing, exhaling a long sigh. Putting on an act for the entire evening had left him just as exhausted as being tormented by Dominic Vance in bed.

But then, a sudden and inexplicable sense of unease washed over him, signaling that something was terribly amiss. A faint, brief camera flash flickered momentarily from a deeply obscured, shadowy corner of the sprawling garden down below. Lucien narrowed his eyes, peering intently into the enveloping gloom in an attempt to discern the source, yet he could no longer see a single thing out of the ordinary.

[Host, it has been detected that an unidentified individual is currently taking photographs of you. Upon cross-referencing the available data, there is a ninety-eight percent probability that this person is a subordinate of Miles Sinclair.]
