Yor sprinted toward the fallen guard, forcing herself not to look at the carnage spreading across the east side— bodies, blood, and the Avallion’s silhouette blitzing past.

[Warning: You Have encountered and Avallion Golem]

[Objective: Slay the beast]

She dropped to her knees beside the wounded man, pale light gathering fast around her hands as she pressed them against the worst of his injuries. "Stay with me. I’ve got you—"

The wound closed enough to stop the bleeding, and she hauled him upright, half-dragging him toward the safety of the inner courtyard before turning back toward the chaos already searching for the next person who needed her.

"Cover her!" One of the guards shouted, positioning himself between Yor and the Avallion’s next dive, and the beast’s talons caught him instead, tearing through his shoulder and leaving a brutal gash.

"Arrrghh!"

Yor reached the fallen fighter, her hands already glowing, but didn’t see the Avallion twist until its shadow fell directly over her.

Her head snapped upwards as she was face to face with the beast, her eyes widening as she realised that beast had marked her as its next target.

’I’m not going to make it—’

"Incoming!"

**WHAM!**

Something crashed into the creature from the side before its talons could reach her, flame roaring bright as Lucas drove a burning punch into its exposed side, staggering it mid-dive and buying her the monent she needed to roll clear.

She scrambled up, facing him. "You’re supposed to be resting," she gasped, torn between being relived or being worried that he was actually here.

"I don’t think it’s possible to get rested when something this serious is happening." Lucas said, already turning to face the Avallion as it recovered and charged at him

He met its charge head-on, [Ignition] roaring bright as they clashed a few times.

It swung its wings at him but he dodged the first time, dodged the second time, clashed the third time and caught it the forth time.

The beast shrieked and raised its wing upward, vaulting Lucas into the air and he came down hard, using [Ignition] on his feet to drive a flaming kick into its back.

He jumped off, and they began clashing again.

For a while it actually seemed to work in his favor, his flame catching against its hide, forcing it to back away from a strike that would have landed clean.

Howeve, his body betrayed him almost immediately after, exhaustion from days in the ravine and a fight barely twelve hours behind him clawing at him.

Soon, his reactions became slower as his vision began to blur.

The Avallion caught wind of this and charged, causing Lucas to put up his hand to defend, and the beast rammed into him, taking his arm in its mouth and bitting hard.

"Ack—" Lucas delivered blow after blow to its face, trying to force it to open its mouth but it held on before slamming him into the ground.

Lucas staggered to his fists and put up but fists refusing to back down.

[Warning; Ignition is unstable]

’Come on, now?!’

He caught another blow across his shoulder, the same one still healing from the ravine fall, and the pain spread across his body in a wave so intense that he came down on one knee.

He thought desperately for a plan, his breathing ragged as a thought creeped into his mind. He tried to think if there was another way around it but nothing came to mind.

He gritted his teeth. ’The Mask.’

He raised his palm as streaks of light began forming something..

"Well...."

A familiar voice came from somewhere behind him, calm and faintly amused despite the chaos, "this looks like quite the mess."

Darian strolled into the courtyard like he’d wandered into a place he wasn’t supposed to be, his hands in his pockets, and gaze sweeping the carnage with a detached look in his eyes.

"You," he added, spotting Lucas kneeling and bleeding nearby. "Don’t you think it’s a bit early for you to be left for dead?"

"Now’s not exactly a good time," Lucas said, gritting his teeth.

The Avallion charged at him, its talons extended as it moved at a speed Lucas barely tracked.

"Shit—"

**BANG**

Darian suddenly appeared in front of them, catching the strike on his forearm.

"Rude. Attacking my guest putsa dent in my reputation, you know?" Darian said mildly as he gripped the talon and pulled, before shoving the creature back with force.

Lucas watched in shock at how much physical power was put into that motion.

’Well, they don’t call them Faction Leaders for nothing...’

"What’s the situation," Darian asked, glancing toward the nearest guard.

"It came in faster than we could react, past our defenses as well," the guard gasped, blood flowing from his head as he clutched an injury on his side. "Killed most of us in the East wing, wounded a dozen more."

Darian nodded, "Get Yor to the injured men, have them healed this instant" he then reached for his pocket and pulled out his coin, the same coin he used when he first met Lucas. "Right. Step aside boy." he said turning to him.

He balanced the coin easily on one knuckle. "Heads, I fight, and this ends quickly. Tails, well." He shrugged. "We’ll see."

"You’re betting on a coin flip again." Lucas said with surprise and a little bit of outrage.

He couldn’t believe that even at a time like this, this man still had the gall to use as coin to decide the fate of his soilders.

"I’ve never lost," Darian said, his voice absolutely certain. "Watch."

The Avallion shrieked and dove one more time, but Darian flipped the coin high into the air without taking his eyes off the beast, catching it in one smoothly in his palm as he opened it.

A grin spread across his face when he saw it and Lucas could almost see the excitement radiate off him.

"Heads."
