The Unlimited Ascension: Reborn as an Extra
Chapter 182: Into the Next TrialChapter 181: Into the Next Trial
After the night passed and the day broke, Alen woke up without being called. He scrambled out of bed, washed his body, and got changed into the proper clothes brought in earlier by the maid. In his own opinion, he looked decent. But to anyone else, he looked like nothing less than Prince Charming. He walked over to the mirror, looking at his own handsome face.
"Damn, at this rate, I will have to save myself from the females of this world. The stronger I become, the more handsome my face and body will become. I think sometime in the future, a great war might be fought between women just for me..."
A smirk curled up on his face as he stepped back from his reflection. He turned around to walk out of the room, heading through the long corridor and descending the grand staircase. Waiting for him below were the many servants of the house. The men stood there calmly, while the maids were looking up at him with almost crying faces.
Alen felt a pang of pity for them. Of course, not because he was leaving them or couldn’t see them anymore, but because he felt sorry that they had been used by him to gather information.
Down in the main hallway, the engaged couple stood there, also ready to depart. They had decided to tag along with him until they reached the Dimensional Gate, as they also decided to go attempt their final trial of Stage 1.
Sylvia stood there folding her arms while talking with them, focusing mostly on Leviya. Alen almost felt like Leviya was her actual daughter more than Azrael, who stood right beside her being blatantly ignored.
Alen felt even more pity for Azrael than he did for the maids he had played.
After noticing a large amount of pity radiating from the staircase, Azrael couldn’t help but look upward, sensing his descent. He frowned slightly, feeling uncomfortable under Alen’s gaze.
’Why the f*ck is he looking at me like this? Is he challenging me to see if I won’t return from the trial? Crazy bastard!’
Alen ignored his glare and walked toward the group.
"I am done. Can we leave now?"
Sylvia’s gaze turned toward him, and she nodded at his face.
"Alright, you all should go... And you, Alen. Make sure to control yourself and don’t mess around engaging in fights with the Association. If you get into trouble in there, no one is coming to save you. You will have to handle everything on your own."
Alen scowled, not understanding if that was genuine advice or if she was actively telling him to know his place.
Sylvia looked at him calmly, trying to analyze if he understood what she was saying.
"Here, take this with you. If you ever need help, you can contact me..."
Alen looked at the card she handed him. It was comparatively simple next to the black VIP card he had gotten earlier. There was a QR-code imprinted on the back, which might hold her contact information.
Alen nodded and took it without much fussing. He knew that having a connection with someone big was more advantageous than actually having wealth, since relationships can’t just be bought with money.
"Alright, thanks Lady Sylvia. Or should I just call you ’Auntie’ from now on?..."
Sylvia narrowed her eyes. Alen couldn’t help but feel a little intimidated by her sharp glare, but surprisingly, she nodded without saying another word.
Alen turned his eyes toward the two teenagers.
"Shall we?"
Azrael nodded calmly while stretching his body, while Leviya remained more collected. She stood there quietly, looking at Alen with sharp eyes.
’Damn, why is she looking at me like this? Is she nuts? Or does she not understand that it is wrong to stare at another boy in her fiancé’s presence...’
Shaking his head, Alen stepped forward to lead the way out. But of course, he had to pass through the biggest problem first. The maids surrounded his path, wanting to say a proper goodbye to him.
Alen couldn’t help but feel awkward; he hadn’t ever gotten such overwhelming attention in a long time.
"Sir Alen, are you going to return after the trial is over?..."
"Yeah, you should come here to see us often..."
"We will miss you, Alen..."
Alen couldn’t help but feel embarrassed at their crying faces. A hand was placed on his shoulder. He turned toward the person and saw the grinning face of the lazy boy.
"Hehe, are you not going to say goodbye to the maids? Or do you want to just abandon them?..."
Alen shot a fierce glare at him while forcing a warm smile back at the staff.
"Well, I will be busy after the trial is over as I have to train. But if I get the time, I will come to meet Azrael, so we can meet again later..."
The maids nodded with hopeful faces, wiping away their tears while opening up a space for him to walk through.
Alen sighed in relief as he stepped forward. He walked away, making his way toward the front doors without looking back. Following close behind him were the other two.
"Hey, turn right."
After they came out of the front doors, Alen paused. He didn’t know what Azrael was saying and looked at him in confusion.
"Why?..."
"Hmph? Don’t you know...? Well, forget it. I will lead you, and you will find out..."
Azrael walked in front, leading them to the right. They headed toward the side of the grand house, a spot where Alen had already visited once before, but found nothing unique, except the soft grasses.
Azrael walked into a small clearing and stepped onto a circular stone ground. Leviya stepped right up beside him. Alen also decided to walk over there, just as he asked what they were doing.
"Teleport us directly to the Dimensional Gate!"
Before Alen could even react, a bright blue glow expanded across the circular clearing. It formed a circle as the runes started to flow in the air illuminated their figures, and in the blink of an eye, they vanished from the Veridius estate and appeared directly in front of the bustling Dimensional Gate.
"What the—?! What was that? Was that some kind of teleportation circle?"
Azrael nodded calmly.
"Yeah, it was specifically made for teleporting to different important places. It is nothing, let’s go..."
They stepped forward. Alen immediately wore his cloak and hooded his face. Not because he was afraid of getting caught by the guards, but because his striking face might attract unwanted attention.
The moment they neared, the noise hit Alen first. The area around the Dimensional Gate was packed, far more crowded than he remembered from his last visit. Groups of young ascender stood scattered around in clusters, some laughing nervously, others standing dead silent with their eyes fixed on the swirling gate as if trying to memorize its shape one last time.
Alen glanced around from under his hood, taking in the scene. As they stepped closer to the portal and stopped just before it, Azrael turned toward him.
"So, it seems our time of separation has finally come... I hope you survive, because I am going to beat you in a duel later."
"Alas, don’t be dramatic. Where did the lazy guy go? The one who would have just shrugged his shoulders, ignored me, and gone to attempt his trial without saying goodbye?"
Alen teased him, then looked at the girl standing beside him.
"Oh, little devil. You should take care of your little fiancé on the trial. Make sure you don’t kill him instead of the actual trial... Hehe..."
Leviya narrowed her emerald eyes at his playful words. She didn’t reply, remaining in her cool, aloof personality.
"You, next time I will definitely burn you alive..."
Alen clutched his shoulders protectively, acting dramatic.
"Ohh, I am so scared! Please don’t burn this pretty face."
Leviya just looked away from his dramatic expression and turned toward Azrael, staring at him quietly.
Azrael, knowing fully the meaning of her look, nodded and turned to the gate.
"Okay. All the best to all of us..."
Without waiting for a reply, both of them stepped inside the swirling gate, departing for their trial.
After they were gone, Alen turned one last time to look at the Dimensional Gate. Just a few weeks ago, he had come here and faced massive trouble. But now, he was leaving this place with new memories, along with new allies.
’It seems my journey is becoming more and more interesting. Let’s see what the new trial will bring forth in front of me. I just hope the trial will be decent; I don’t want to face the same type of mental ordeal as the last time.’
Alen shook his head, pushing aside the unwanted thoughts. He turned around, stepped forward, and entered the Dimensional Gate.
As his figure vanished, the Dimensional Gate sparkled brightly, accepting him inside the realm.
