Chapter 207: What Exactly Are You Regretting?!

But ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍the movement pulled at the wound on her face, and she sucked in a sharp breath from the pain.

She ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍took a potion from her coat, ready to pour it over her wounds.

Then—

“Young ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍miss—!”

A ‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍voice rang out from somewhere in the distance.

Lillian’s hand jerked so hard she nearly dropped the bottle.

That voice...

It was Rex.

“Young miss—! Where are you—!”

The voice was getting closer.

Lillian’s whole body tensed. She pushed herself to her feet and gripped her longsword tightly. Her hand was still shaking, but she held on with all her strength.

Three figures burst around the corner ahead.

Ryan. Vera. Rex.

The moment they saw her, all three froze.

Rex’s eyes lit up at once, and he was just about to rush toward her—

A hand shot out and stopped him.

Ryan’s hand pressed against Rex’s chest, holding him in place. Those gray-blue eyes fixed themselves on Lillian, sweeping over her from head to toe, then back again, carefully sizing her up.

Rex panicked. “What are you doing? That’s the young miss!”

Ryan said nothing.

Lillian stood there, staring back at them. She raised her sword and pointed it straight at the three of them.

So the two sides remained locked in place.

In the mirrors, countless copies of them were locked in the same standoff.

The light was so dazzling it made the eyes ache.

Then Ryan spoke.

“Rex,” he said, “is there some... little secret only you and Lillian know?”

Rex froze. He scratched his head, looked at Ryan, then at the Lillian across from him.

“A... secret?”

The Lillian across from him froze too. She clearly had not expected the three of them to ask something like that.

And she had certainly not expected Ryan to verify her identity this way.

Rex scratched his head and thought for a long time.

Then, all of a sudden, his face went red.

The flush spread from his cheeks to his ears, then down his neck. His whole face turned crimson.

“T-there is one...” he stammered.

“Say it,” Ryan said.

Rex glanced at the Lillian across from him, then lowered his head, suddenly bashful as a young girl.

“Well... when the young miss was little...”

The Lillian across from him suddenly had a very bad feeling.

“There was one time...” Rex’s voice grew softer and softer, “when the young miss climbed over a wall to sneak out and play, but she misjudged where she’d land, and the moment she got over the wall, she fell straight into...”

He paused.

“A cart full of cow dung.”

Silence.

The entire corridor fell into dead silence.

Every person in every mirror was silent too.

Then—

“Rex—!!!”

Lillian let out a shriek so sharp it was almost an explosion. Her face turned red as if it had burst into flames, and she looked like she was steaming.

She dropped her sword and charged at Rex.

“Didn’t you promise me you would never tell anyone as long as you lived—?!”

Rex jumped back in fright, covering his ears.

“Ryan made me say it! He said it had to be a secret only the two of us knew!”

“That still doesn’t mean you could say that—!”

Lillian chased after him and started hitting him.

She had thrown her sword aside, so she used her fists, her feet, anything she could swing. Rex crouched on the ground with his head in his hands, letting her beat him.

“Young miss, I was wrong! I’ll never dare again!”

“You still think there’ll be a next time—?!”

Ryan watched the scene, and the corner of his mouth twitched.

At the side, Vera suddenly laughed out loud.

It was a soft laugh, but in the empty corridor it sounded especially clear. She covered her mouth, her eyes curving into crescents.

“Well,” she said, “that proves this one is real.”

Ryan nodded.

He walked over, picked up the sword Lillian had thrown to the ground, then bent to retrieve the short knife the fake Ryan had left behind. It was identical to the real one, heavy and solid in his hand.

Over there, Lillian was still hitting Rex.

“Idiot! Fool! Country bumpkin! Blockhead Rex!”

“Young miss, I was wrong...”

“I’ll make you tell people! I’ll make you tell people!”

Vera walked over and stood beside Ryan, watching the two of them.

“They really are close,” she said.

Ryan said nothing.

He just watched Lillian. Watched her scolding and hitting Rex, watched Rex crouch there with his head covered, watched how every punch looked vicious but carried almost no strength at all.

The corner of his mouth twitched again.

At last, Lillian got tired.

She stood in front of Rex, breathing hard, her face as red as a ripe apple.

Rex lifted his head and looked at her carefully.

“Young miss... are you still angry?”

“Obviously!”

“Then... do you still want to hit me?”

Lillian glared at him and raised a hand.

Rex immediately covered his head again.

But when her hand came down, it was very gentle.

She patted him on the head.

“If you ever tell anyone again,” Lillian said in a fierce voice, though the roots of her ears were burning red, “then I... I’ll never speak to you again.”

Rex lifted his head and looked at her, smiling foolishly.

“I understand, young miss.”

Ryan walked over and handed her a potion. Lillian took it and lowered her head to treat the wound on her shoulder. Rex moved closer, wanting to help, but she glared at him, and he quickly backed away again.

Vera watched from the side, the corners of her lips curved slightly upward.

“Oh, right,” she said, “Lillian, what happened on your side? What happened after you followed that fake Ryan?”

Lillian’s hand paused for a moment.

“Nothing much,” she said, lifting her chin. “I just ran into a fake Rex and a fake Ryan. I beat them both into the ground.”

Rex’s eyes went wide.

“Both? Two of them?”

“Obviously.” Lillian poured the potion over her wound and sucked in a sharp breath through her teeth, but she still kept her chin raised. “That fake Ryan was pretty good, but he was only good, that’s all.”

She did not say what the fake Rex had told her—the things that had made her heart race. She did not say how close she had come to believing those scenes. She did not say how frightened she had been when facing that fake Ryan.

She only lifted her chin and looked at them.

“What? Did you actually think your young miss would be fooled by those fakes?”

Rex immediately backed her up.

“As if! The young miss is the smartest!”

“Of course I am.” Lillian’s lips curled upward, clearly getting a little carried away from the praise.

“Oh, right, young miss,” Rex suddenly said, “we also ran into a fake you earlier.”

Lillian froze.

Rex scratched his head and began to explain.

He explained everything in great detail—how the fake Lillian had appeared, how she had cried and said Vera had hurt her, how she had leaned against him, how she had treated his wounds, how she had held his hand, how she had leaned on his shoulder, how she had blushed and talked about marrying him—

The more he spoke, the redder his face became.

The blush spread from his cheeks to his ears, then down his neck. His whole face was red.

“But luckily,” he said, “Ryan saw through it immediately. He killed her.”

He paused, then scratched his head again.

“Still... what a shame...”

He had not even finished the sentence before Lillian shouted—

“What exactly are you regretting?!”
