Chapter 726: Chapter 726: A Very Realistic Problem

Mindy Lynn grew more and more excited as she spoke, sitting straight up. "Your sister must care about you a lot! She spent sixteen years looking for you, just got back to Zenvia yesterday, and then came to find you right away after seeing the test results today!"

Lucy Summers sat up too, a dazed look on her face. "But... I don’t really know how to face her. It just feels weird."

"I think your reaction is normal," Mindy Lynn said seriously. "You were separated for sixteen years, and you suddenly find out you have a biological sister. You’re handling it pretty well! I can’t even guarantee I wouldn’t have a breakdown if it were me. So, you’re actually very strong."

"Really?" Lucy Summers still looked lost. "Am I strong?"

"Yeah, you just might not have realized it yourself." Mindy Lynn nodded, then asked, "By the way, are you planning to go back to your hometown to get to the bottom of this?"

Lucy Summers sighed, resting her head on her bent knees. "I haven’t decided," she said softly. "If it were you, what would you do?"

"As an outsider, it’s probably easy for me to say," Mindy Lynn said, hugging a pillow. "I think I’d want to find out the truth. I’d ask them why they deceived me."

She paused, her gaze falling on Lucy Summers’s face, which was etched with melancholy. "There’s also the matter of you going to college... I don’t know if I should bring it up."

Lucy Summers pressed her lips together. "It’s okay, Mindy. Go ahead."

"You said that when your dad was laid off, your mom told you the family couldn’t afford to send two people to school..." Mindy Lynn said hesitantly. "I was just thinking, if you were their biological daughter, would she still have treated you that way?"

Lucy Summers’s eyelashes trembled. The color drained from her face in an instant, and a stinging sensation filled her nose as her eyes reddened slightly.

This was the question she had been trying to avoid.

"I..." Lucy Summers opened her mouth, but only managed a quiet, "I don’t know."

"That’s why I think you need to find out," Mindy Lynn said, blinking. "If they weren’t genuinely good to you, if they adopted you for some other reason, are you still going to send most of your paycheck home like you used to?"

Mindy Lynn’s words made a lot of sense.

"That’s a very real problem." Lucy Summers nodded seriously. "Mindy, thank you for bringing it up. I’ll think it over carefully."

"Will you be able to sleep tonight?" Mindy Lynn tilted her head to look at her. "Want to have some beer? My treat! Let’s have some barbecue and beer!"

Normally, Lucy Summers would have refused any mention of drinking. She had seen how people lost their composure when they were drunk and was afraid of becoming like that herself.

This time, however, she readily agreed. "Okay, but it should be my treat."

"You get the barbecue, and I’ll get the beer!" Mindy Lynn suggested.

Lucy Summers: "Deal!"

The two of them didn’t drink often. They each opened a 500ml bottle of beer, and their cheeks were flushed red by the time they were only halfway through.

The bottles were empty before they knew it, and the alcohol was slowly starting to hit. Lucy Summers felt light and floaty. She and Mindy Lynn lay down on the bed, giggled foolishly at the ceiling for a bit, and then fell into a deep sleep.

「The next day.」

After freshening up, Renee Jennings came out of the bathroom and saw Sheryl Sawyer sitting on the bed, staring into space.

She walked over and said softly, "Sheryl, send Lulu a message and ask her and Mindy what they want for breakfast."

"Me?" Sheryl Sawyer looked at her, conflicted. "Renee, why don’t you send it instead?"

"It’s fine, you should ask." Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow and smiled. "You two will have to communicate eventually. Start with the small things."

Sheryl Sawyer gazed into her gentle, smiling eyes, seemingly encouraged, and nodded lightly. "Okay, I’ll send it."

She picked up her phone. Her chat with Lucy Summers was pinned to the top.

Sheryl Sawyer carefully composed a message and sent it: [Lulu, good morning. Did you sleep well? What would you and Mindy like for breakfast? Dim sum, or congee, noodles, and soup?]

As soon as the message was sent, Sheryl Sawyer stared nervously at her phone, relighting the screen every time it went dark.

Time seemed to stretch on, and five minutes felt like a century.

Five minutes later, Lucy Summers replied: [Sister Sheryl, good morning. We slept pretty well last night. Mindy and I are fine with anything, you guys can choose!]

A small smile touched Sheryl Sawyer’s lips as the pads of her fingers gently tapped the edit box: [Okay, then we’ll come over to get you and Mindy in half an hour.]

Lucy Summers: [Sounds good.]

Sheryl Sawyer replied with a cute sticker, and her smile grew brighter and brighter as she stared at the chat screen.

Seeing this, a soft smile spread in Renee Jennings’s eyes as well.

She walked to the other side of the bed and woke up the sleeping Michelle Fuller. "Her Ladyship, time to get up."

Michelle Fuller groggily opened her eyes and mumbled, "Mmm, I want to sleep a little longer."

Renee Jennings sighed. "Fine, you stay here and sleep. Sheryl and I will take the two younger sisters to breakfast, and we’ll bring something back for you."

"Wait a second." Michelle Fuller struggled to sit up. "I’m not sleeping. I’ll go with you guys."

Renee Jennings turned, went into the bathroom, and came back with a damp disposable towel, which she used to wipe Michelle’s face a couple of times. "How’s that? A little more awake?"

"Yeah," Michelle Fuller nodded. "Do it a couple more times."

"Yes, Your Ladyship." Renee Jennings wiped her face a few more times.

Michelle Fuller stretched, then suddenly wrapped her arms around Renee Jennings’s slim waist. "What’s with ’Your Ladyship’? I’m obviously your biggest fan."

"Alright, stop messing around," Renee Jennings reminded her. "You have twenty minutes left to get ready."

"That’s plenty of time." Michelle Fuller slipped on her slippers and yawned. "I’m not putting on makeup. Brushing my teeth just takes five minutes."

Twenty minutes later, the three of them were standing in the hallway, raising a hand to knock on the door.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—

"Coming!" Lucy Summers came to open the door, a smile on her face. She and Mindy Lynn greeted everyone.

While waiting for the elevator, Renee Jennings looked at the two young women. "Is dim sum okay for breakfast?"

The atmosphere would be nicer, and they could chat over tea.

Lucy Summers and Mindy Lynn exchanged a glance and replied with a smile, "That’s fine. Mindy and I aren’t picky eaters."

Mindy Lynn also said, "That’s right. We’re happy to eat anything with you all."

Michelle Fuller raised an eyebrow. "I like the way you talk, Mindy."

Mindy Lynn immediately broke into a bashful smile.

The dim sum restaurant was close to the subway entrance, so they took the train. They talked and laughed the whole way, growing a little more familiar with each other than they had been the day before.

Michelle Fuller had called ahead to reserve a private room, but because it was a busy time, they still had to wait for over ten minutes after arriving at the restaurant.

After they ordered, Renee Jennings started a conversation. "So, Lulu, Mindy, what work were you doing when you met?"

"Supermarket cashier," Lucy Summers answered.

Mindy Lynn said, "I had started working there a month before Lulu."

Lucy Summers smiled. "We were in the same dorm. Mindy helped me out a lot back then."
