"We can't beat him!"
"We're not even on the same level..."
The Atlanteans fled desperately, while behind them came Jovian, his eyes blazing scarlet.
Endless flames scorched the earth.
The Atlanteans screamed in terror. Faced with the invincible Jovian, all they could leave behind were mangled corpses scattered across the ground.
"Run! Run!"
King Orm could no longer remember how he had managed to escape. All he remembered was that bodies fell every second. They could not stop. They had to keep moving forward, forward, always forward.
At last, after fleeing for what felt like an eternity, he saw the ocean.
"Hope!"
Hope took root in his heart. He firmly believed that as long as he could make it back into the sea, he would survive.
Splash!
King Orm leaped into the water and thought he had won.
He swam desperately onward like a stray dog that had somehow escaped a kill shelter and been given a second chance at life.
When King Orm finally returned to his underwater domain, the other Sea Lords immediately surrounded him.
"Orm, why are you back? Did you conquer the surface?"
The Sea Lords stared at him expectantly.
"The surface... the surface is too dangerous..."
Orm kept shaking his head. His expression was pitiful, weak, and utterly helpless.
"Dangerous?"
The Sea Lords frowned.
"Orm, don't tell me you're planning to keep the surface for yourself and become king of the surface dwellers! Are you trying to leave the rest of us trapped beneath the ocean?"
One of the Sea Lords finally voiced his suspicions.
"Idiot! Do you really think I'm that kind of person?"
Orm glared fiercely at the fool who had asked such a ridiculous question.
If the surface had been even slightly safer, he never would have fled back here in such a miserable state.
"There's a terrifying monster on the surface. He looks human. He has the same limbs as an ordinary person, but..."
"He can fly, and his eyes shoot lasers! Our army was completely helpless against him!"
Orm kept shaking his head.
He swore that for the rest of his life, he would never return to the surface.
Not even one step.
"Is it really that dangerous up there?"
The other Sea Lords clearly did not believe him.
Their own subordinates had already told them that the surface was overflowing with wealth. The people living there were pathetic and weak, their weapons could not even pierce Atlantean skin, and the land was filled with resources they desperately needed.
Now they seriously suspected that Orm was putting on an elaborate performance so he would not have to share the spoils that rightfully belonged to them.
"Idiots..."
"Go ask the soldiers who escaped! They saw that terrifying monster too!"
Orm roared furiously when he realized that none of them believed him.
"Heh..."
"Don't worry. We'll get to the bottom of it."
Seeing that Orm was becoming increasingly furious, the others finally nodded.
Orm was certainly putting on a convincing performance. He truly looked like a man who had been scared half to death.
Even so, they still needed to question the surviving soldiers themselves.
In truth, if everything Orm said was accurate, then someone would have to accept responsibility for their defeat.
And there was no better candidate than Orm.
Orm had been the one who proclaimed that humanity was weak and helpless.
Now that they had lost, Orm should naturally step forward and bear the blame for inciting the war in the first place.
"No matter what happens, gentlemen, we Sea Lords of the Seven Seas will never lose!"
After Orm left, the other Sea Lords exchanged smiles.
Regardless of whether this war ended in victory or defeat, the Sea Lords themselves would never be the losers.
Come to think of it...
Orm's brother was already dead.
Once Orm was forced to accept responsibility for this defeat, another Sea Lord would disappear from the ocean.
And when that happened...
The remaining Sea Lords would divide another enormous fortune among themselves.
Each of them would gain even more territory.
Meanwhile, on the surface...
After Jovian crushed Orm's army, the entire world fell silent.
Boom!
After annihilating the army, Jovian's eyes burned with terrifying heat vision as he carved a massive sentence into the ground:
DON'T FUCK WITH ME!
That was right.
Jovian had decided to stop pretending.
Once Jovian destroyed the army, the entire internet erupted.
Young people everywhere thought Jovian was the coolest man alive.
Plenty of others, however, believed Jovian was a terrible influence on children, an uncontrollable outsider who refused to obey anyone.
And so...
While the entire world was still in an uproar, a television network owned by Bruce Wayne's company decided to arrange an exclusive interview with Jovian regarding the events of that day.
They wanted to ask him several questions that might reassure the people of the world.
Jovian agreed.
After all, he was a very generous man.
When night fell...
Jovian arrived at the television studio.
The program featured one host, four guests, and a large live audience.
"Now, please welcome Mr. Jovian, hero of the world!"
"And joining him tonight, renowned Daily Planet reporter Ron Troupe, the mayor of Metropolis, and the owner of Wayne Enterprises himself, Mr. Bruce Wayne!"
As the host finished her introduction, the four men walked onto the stage, smiling toward the audience.
"You must be Mr. Bruce Wayne. I've heard so much about you!"
The mayor of Metropolis immediately lowered his posture when he saw Bruce Wayne beside him and eagerly greeted the billionaire.
"Hello."
Bruce smiled and shook the mayor's hand.
"Wait... haven't we met somewhere before?"
The mayor stared at Bruce Wayne for a moment.
For some reason, Bruce looked strangely familiar, as though the mayor had seen him somewhere before.
"Maybe at some charity gala."
"You know how much I love charity."
Bruce Wayne smiled faintly at him.
Despite standing face-to-face with a man he had once beaten senseless and then threatened, Bruce remained perfectly calm.
"Oh, maybe! Hahaha..."
The mayor immediately burst out laughing.
Perhaps Bruce was right. Maybe they really had met at some gala before.
After all, men like them were naturally enthusiastic supporters of charity.
Hehehe...
"And now, let's hear a few words from our hero!"
The host smiled at Jovian.
"I'm not a hero. I know many people think I am. It's true that I've saved many lives, but I'm not a hero."
"The real heroes are all of you who continue living in this world without giving up hope."
Jovian looked directly into the camera, wearing his trademark smile.
"My God! Mr. Jovian, that was absolutely beautiful!"
The host immediately began flattering him.
She saw absolutely nothing wrong with doing so.
After all, countless people would kill for the opportunity to flatter a God Among Men and never get the chance.
If she had her way, she would much rather be gently smacking Jovian's ass in bed.
"Tch."
The host's praise drew a contemptuous scoff from renowned reporter Ron Troupe.
"Uh..."
The host froze.
Her smile immediately became awkward.
"Mr. Troupe, you seem rather dismissive of what Mr. Jovian just said."
She smiled stiffly at Ron.
"No. I'm fine."
Ron shook his head.
"Then perhaps you'd like to share your thoughts?"
The host was clearly annoyed now and refused to let him off the hook.
Ron Troupe had always been known as an exceptionally bold reporter who had offended more powerful people than anyone could count.
The fact that a man like him was still alive was practically a miracle.
"Well, since you asked!"
"Then let's talk about it."
Ron walked straight up to the host and took the microphone from her hand.
Then he turned toward Jovian.
"Great God Among Men, may I ask you a question?"
Ron deliberately asked Jovian for permission.
He wanted the audience to feel as though Jovian were arrogant enough to require people to seek permission before speaking to him.
"Of course."
Jovian remained seated and nodded.
He was actually curious to hear what Ron would ask.
"Mr. Jovian, if you're supposed to be a hero, then answer this!"
"When our soldiers were fighting and dying on the battlefield, when those deep-sea bastards were slaughtering our troops, why didn't you intervene?"
"You stood by and watched while the Atlanteans killed more than a million of our soldiers, conquered twenty-four states, and massacred nearly thirty million people!"
"You did nothing!"
"Can someone like you really call himself a hero?"
Ron roared furiously at Jovian.
"..."
The entire studio fell silent.
No one knew what to say.
"Do you have any idea how many people are crying in front of their televisions right now?"
"Do you know how many people trusted you? How many believed you would save them?"
"But you didn't!"
"So why should someone like you be called a hero?"
Ron continued shouting.
As his furious accusations echoed across the broadcast, countless viewers watching from home felt their hearts tighten.
He was right.
Jovian could have stopped the war.
But he had chosen not to.
Could such a man truly be called a hero?
"So answer me now, Jovian!"
"Why didn't you stop the war?!"
Ron roared.
"You want an answer? Of course."
"The truth is, I had my reasons for not stopping the war."
Jovian smiled at Ron.
"What reason?!"
Ron pressed aggressively.
"Because I didn't feel like it."
Jovian smiled.
"You... what?"
Ron froze.
"I didn't feel like it."
Jovian repeated himself.
"Wait. You're saying you simply didn't want to?"
Ron emphasized every word.
"That's right."
"I didn't want to, so I didn't save them."
Jovian crossed one leg over the other as he remained seated, looking down at Ron.
"What kind of reason is that?"
Ron was completely confused.
He had expected the God Among Men to apologize before the entire world.
Then Ron would become the hero of the night.
Instead, he had no idea what to do.
The God Among Men sitting before him did not seem to care about public opinion at all.
"You people seem to have misunderstood something."
"I do whatever I feel like doing."
"When I wanted to help people, I helped them. When I didn't want to help them, I didn't."
"Remember what I said earlier?"
"You're the heroes."
"I never once claimed to be one."
Jovian smiled faintly at Ron.
"You..."
Ron wanted to continue, but suddenly realized something.
Once he could no longer use public opinion as a weapon, he was absolutely nothing in front of Jovian.
"Humanity must pay for its mistakes and for the consequences of its own actions!"
"Sin must be punished!"
"And now, let's discuss what punishment you deserve for interrupting that beautiful host while she was doing her job."
Scarlet light began glowing in Jovian's eyes.
"I..."
Ron tried to speak.
The scarlet beams struck him instantly and burned him to ash.
"Aaahhh!"
Screams erupted throughout the studio.
The entire set descended into chaos.
"Jovian, have you lost your mind?!"
Bruce Wayne roared at Jovian as he stared at the dead reporter.
"Bruce, you're too merciful!"
"And it's exactly because of that mercy that the people around you keep dying!"
"At the end of the day, you're still human. That's why your heart is burdened by compassion."
"But from this moment onward..."
"I am God."
Jovian stood before Bruce Wayne and spoke with terrifying force.
"Listen carefully. I'm not talking about anyone in particular. I'm telling the entire world to listen!"
"Yes!"
"That's right!"
"I am exactly what you think I am!"
"I am God!"
"And I do whatever the fuck I want!"
"If I'm unhappy, I can destroy this planet without breaking a sweat. I can destroy this entire fucking universe and simply move on to another one!"
"So don't use those rat-sized brains of yours to judge my values or my existence!"
Jovian held the microphone and stared into the countless cameras.
His voice remained calm, yet every word carried a ruthless edge.
Thud!
When Jovian finished speaking, he threw the microphone onto the floor.
A piercing burst of feedback rang through the studio as Jovian launched himself into the air.
Boom!
He smashed straight through the ceiling and disappeared into the night sky.
"..."
After Jovian left, the entire world was shaken.
People could hardly believe what they had just witnessed.
What had Jovian just said?
That he was God?
Had he really threatened the entire world, and even the entire universe, before simply flying away?
The global order was about to change.
Some of the more perceptive people had already realized that the entire balance of power might soon be rewritten.
Humanity wanted God to exist.
They simply wanted God to remain inside myths, inside stories, in Heaven, or within some distant divine kingdom.
Whenever believers prayed, God could answer mortals from afar.
But what happened when God actually appeared in the world?
"Fuck!"
People panicked.
Then they grabbed their damned spears, nailed their great God to a cross, and left him beneath the burning sun until his body became a dried corpse.
Only then would humanity finally breathe a sigh of relief and shout:
"We finally sent God back to his divine kingdom! What a wonderful thing we've accomplished!"
And then the very people who had killed God would turn around, put on magnificent robes, and when someone asked who they were, those godslayers would smile and answer:
"We are the most devout followers of our great God."
