The Shark advanced.

The corpses did too.

BOOM!

The first corpse leaped onto the Shark.

Its claws tore into part of its body, but the Golem simply spun violently and threw it away.

Another came from the side.

The Hunter Knight raised its arm, and an earth spear appeared in its hand.

ZOSSH!

The spear pierced through the corpse’s chest.

BOOM!

The body exploded.

Black blood and a gray substance flew in all directions.

The impact tore away a large amount of earth from the Shark’s body.

And then I understood the true purpose of those monsters.

They weren’t simply trying to destroy my summon.

They wanted to reach me.

This was the classic strategy against a summoner.

The summon could be extremely powerful, but the summoner’s body remained much more vulnerable.

If Werk Treuz managed to kill me, it wouldn’t matter how resilient the Shark was.

While controlling the Hunter Knight, I sensed another magical presence.

Werk Treuz was retreating.

He wanted distance.

He wanted time.

And, most importantly, he wanted to use those damn curses again.

I needed to control the Shark, deal with those corpses, and at the same time pay attention to Werk Treuz’s invisible curses.

It was annoying.

Very annoying.

One of the corpses leaped onto the Shark.

CRACK!

The Knight struck it.

BOOM!

Explosion.

Another part of the Shark’s body disappeared.

Another corpse came immediately.

BOOM!

Explosion.

A third creature was crushed.

BOOM!

When the smoke finally cleared, the front of the Giant Shark King was in a miserable state.

This can’t continue.

I narrowed my eyes.

I quickly grabbed something and put it into my mouth.

Then I lightly tapped my feet.

— Time to change the game.

The Hunter Knight, which was standing in front of me, began to grow.

Its body expanded and contracted at the same time, as if it were creating space inside itself.

Then its body enveloped mine.

In an instant, I disappeared inside the Golem.

The enormous Giant Shark King sank.

Like a sea creature diving into an invisible ocean, its body passed through the hardened ground.

Vuuush!

And disappeared.

Completely.

The remaining corpses stood still for a moment.

Then they began desperately digging.

— Where did he go?!

I heard someone’s voice from the crowd.

But I was already far beneath the battlefield.

The earth surrounded me.

The outside world disappeared.

Only through the senses I shared with the Hunter Knight could I keep track of what was happening above.

Werk Treuz noticed it as well.

His behavior changed immediately.

He couldn’t see me.

And, even worse for him...

He couldn’t easily lock onto my position to hit me with a curse spell.

Werk Treuz began searching desperately.

His magical sense spread across the field.

Then...

It stopped.

He had noticed something.

The next instant, he pointed his wand at one of the corpses and cast a quick spell.

A huge earth claw emerged directly beneath Werk Treuz’s feet.

BANG!

The claw struck his body with brutal force.

Flesh and blood exploded.

For a moment, I thought I had succeeded.

But my expression changed.

The corpse that had been a few meters behind him began convulsing violently.

And, within just a few seconds...

Werk Treuz emerged in its place.

Then I understood.

Those monsters weren’t merely minions.

They were anchors.

Each corpse allowed Werk Treuz to transfer his position whenever he was struck.

But there was a problem for him.

I could destroy the corpses one by one.

The Shark dove again.

.

.

BOOM!

Another corpse was pierced by earth spikes coming from below.

.

.

CRACK!

The body exploded.

.

.

.

I continued advancing through the underground.

Werk Treuz became furious.

The remaining corpses began spreading out around him.

He had understood my strategy.

The monsters formed a defensive circle.

If I appeared at any point, they could react.

But that didn’t bother me.

.

.

.

Zosh!

Earth spikes.

BOOM!

.

.

.

Another corpse destroyed.

.

.

.

Zosh!

A spear pierced another.

BOOM!

Another explosion.

.

.

.

Then he raised his head toward the sky and shouted.

— I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!

Blood began dripping from Werk’s mouth, and his mana was completely drained, so he collapsed unconscious onto the ground.

[Enemy defeated.]

As I slowly made the Giant Shark King emerge from the ground, I noticed that the atmosphere around me was strange.

The crowd remained silent.

No one celebrated.

No one seemed to know exactly what to say.

I could even understand it.

Werk Treuz hadn’t lost because he was weak.

He had simply faced someone who completely countered him.

A specialist in curses and corpses had been placed against an opponent who could disappear beneath the earth and attack without exposing himself.

Meanwhile, Nople seemed even more troubled.

He grabbed Rustil by the shoulder and pulled him closer.

— I thought you said this kid didn’t possess any special abilities! Nople growled.

— How the hell did we end up with this result?

— Answer me honestly.

— If you fought someone like that, could you defeat him?

Rustil swallowed hard.

— Ugh...

He scratched the back of his neck before answering.

— If it’s a fair fight in a desolate forest... give me half a day and I could probably kill him.

Nople narrowed his eyes.

— And here?

Rustil pointed toward the field.

— Here? Impossible.

— That bad?

— I can’t damage him while he’s underground.

— I can search for him, I can wait, I can try to lure him out... but he can simply disappear again.

— I’d eventually be worn down until I died.

Then the Giant Shark King’s head emerged.

Next, the rest of its body slowly rose from the ground.

After remaining underground for so long, all the superficial marks and damage had disappeared.

I calmly dismounted and walked toward Nople.

When I got close, he immediately turned his face away.

— Sun Ray!

A person dressed in yellow approached.

— Yes, sir.

— Give me the numbers. How much do we owe this kid?

Sun Ray opened a small magical ledger and began calculating.

— Mister George bet thirty thousand magic crystals, three Level 3 magic items, one staff ingredient, and the magical notes of the bone-specialized Acolyte from the Underground World.

— The estimated value of all of this is approximately three hundred thousand magic crystals.

The crowd became even quieter.

I could almost hear some people swallowing hard.

Sun Ray continued.

— Since the bet was established at ten to one, the maximum amount that should be paid would be three hundred thousand magic crystals.

— However, the total actually bet by everyone present was only eighty-five thousand.

— So...

— We still owe two hundred and fifteen thousand magic crystals to Mister George.

I looked around.

An entire group of Level 3 Acolytes and Pseudo-Mages was staring at me.

Some looked like they wanted to strangle me.

And Rustil...

Rustil was literally sweating.

I almost laughed.

So this guy brought me here, and now everyone is looking at him as if he were responsible for a financial calamity.

I put a humble expression on my face and raised my hands.

— Seniors, you don’t need to worry.

— It’s an honor to receive the attention of so many experienced Acolytes.

—You gave me an opportunity to prove my abilities.

—How could I be so petty as to demand all of that from you?

— The eighty-five thousand magic crystals are already more than enough.

I placed a hand over my chest.

— After all, I, George, am not a greedy man.

For some reason, no one seemed to completely believe my last sentence.

But some began laughing.

— Hahaha! This kid...

— Too cunning.

— At least he knows when to stop.

I maintained my smile.

If I demanded the remaining two hundred and fifteen thousand, I’d probably turn everyone here into enemies.

Eighty-five thousand magic crystals was already a fortune.

There was no need to be stupid.

It was then that a heavy voice emerged from the crowd.

— Hey, you cunning kid.

I turned my head.

It was the muscular man I had seen earlier fighting with two axes.

His body looked like a wall.

He crossed his arms and smiled.

— Don’t get too full of yourself.

— Oh?

— You only managed such an easy victory because your ability naturally countered Werk Treuz’s.

He slammed his fist into the palm of his other hand.

PAM!

— We’ll pay all the crystals we owe.

— But do you have the courage to fight again?

The crowd immediately became excited.

— Luize!

— That’s right!

— Fight him!

The eyes of several people began to shine.

I carefully observed Luize.

Affinity with Tremor and Vibration.

Body Enhancement Path.

Extremely high physical strength.

Unlike Werk Treuz, he was exactly the kind of opponent who could pose a problem for me.

But...

— Why not?

Luize’s expression immediately lit up.

— Great!

— However...

He stopped.

I pointed at the Shark.

— My Golem suffered quite a bit of damage during the fight. I need to readjust it and make some repairs.

I crossed my arms.

— How about tomorrow?

Luize’s smile grew even wider.

— Tomorrow?

— Tomorrow.

— Hahaha! Perfect!
