There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!

Chapter 100 - 33: To Catch the Bandit, First Catch the Mother

「The next morning.」

The Missionary of Love’s family ran a small convenience store. He was from a single-parent household; his mother had gone to work at the store early in the morning, making deliveries of cooking oil and rice to customers to earn a little extra on the side.

Knowing the instance was about to end, the Missionary of Love became more active. He left home early in the morning and began searching for Duan Fei and the others.

While Cuihua monitored his movements, Duan Fei and Jinghong staked out the convenience store, finally seeing the Missionary of Love’s mother return.

Despite having just delivered two twenty-five-kilogram bags of flour, the mother didn’t have a single drop of sweat on her head. She looked completely at ease.

Her white T-shirt was stretched taut, and the solid muscles beneath looked like they were hiding explosives. A single glance was enough to feel an overwhelming sense of pressure.

Contrary to her rugged appearance, she was a very gentle person, a fact that had been confirmed in their previous two encounters.

Taking a deep breath, Duan Fei pulled Jinghong forward and said to the woman, "Excuse me, are you Chansi Yu’s mother?"

The elegant name was a complete mismatch for its owner’s "muscular demon monk" appearance, and Duan Fei had to struggle to hold back his laughter.

His mother nodded and asked, "You... you’re Chansi Yu’s friends, aren’t you? Is something the matter? Would you like some candy?"

"Thank you, ma’am, but we’re fine. Jinghong, swallow your saliva. I’ll buy you some later."

Taking off his backpack, Duan Fei pulled out two test papers, one for language arts and one for math, and handed them to the mother.

"Ma’am, these are Chansi Yu’s test papers. He forgot them at school, and the teacher asked me to bring them to him."

"Oh, thank you."

Unfolding the papers, the mother said in pleasant surprise, "Wow, perfect scores! He did so well, why didn’t he say anything when I asked? Wait a minute, this isn’t my son’s test. Who’s Li Changkong?"

"Oh, that’s me." Duan Fei took the papers back and handed her two different ones. "My apologies, I grabbed the wrong ones. These are his."

The abysmal scores made the mother’s expression shift dramatically. A slight tremor in her hands indicated that someone was doomed tonight.

’It’s not going to be me, Li Changkong, that’s for sure.’

With the atmosphere properly set, Duan Fei said politely, "Ma’am, I’ve delivered the papers. My friend and I are heading to our tutoring class now."

"Tutoring class?" Seizing on the keyword, the mother immediately asked, "What kind of tutoring class?"

After a meaningful glance from Duan Fei, Jinghong took the stage.

As a player whose abilities were highly compatible with the "Actor" Profession, Jinghong could perfectly embody the image of a top student even without any game-related buffs.

With a sweet smile, she said to the mother, "It’s an ’edutainment’ tutoring class. We learn by incorporating key concepts from our textbooks into games. Oh, this is our textbook. Here, ma’am, take a look."

Seeing the deck of cards Jinghong handed her, the woman frowned and asked, "Isn’t this just Monster King? I think my son has this; he plays it every day. Can this thing really improve his grades?"

"That’s why it’s edutainment. We combine learning with fun, reinforcing and improving our knowledge while playing. This is the secret to how we get perfect scores."

The perfect performance, combined with the persuasive power of the test papers, had Chansi Yu’s mother nodding repeatedly.

Feeling the time was right, Duan Fei said, "I’m heading to class now. Jinghong, you don’t have a class today, so you can explain things to ma’am."

"Okay." Jinghong smiled as she saw Duan Fei off, a knowing smirk on her face.

Turning back to Chansi Yu’s mother, Jinghong said, "Come now, ma’am, let me explain it to you in detail."

After leaving the two of them, Duan Fei began to race through the small town, searching for the Missionary of Love.

It was now nine in the morning, with four hours remaining until the instance timer ran out.

They had to stall the Missionary of Love long enough for Jinghong to thoroughly convince Chansi Yu’s mother and complete their plan.

Finally, he spotted Cuihua and the Missionary of Love in the middle of a duel.

Yesterday’s clothes-drying pole had been broken, but Cuihua had found an aluminum pipe and was once again locked in combat with the Missionary of Love.

However, compared to yesterday, the Missionary of Love had mostly figured out Cuihua’s fighting style and was no longer holding back.

Moreover, she was still tired from the day before. Cuihua’s arms could barely hold onto the aluminum pipe, and after half an hour, she was defeated and pinned to the ground by the Missionary of Love.

"I... I give up!"

Hearing this, the Missionary of Love, who had been preparing to "instill love," sighed in dissatisfaction. Then, he saw Duan Fei in the distance.

Snatching the champion’s certificate from Cuihua’s hands, he strode forward and charged toward Duan Fei, shouting, "Du—"

"I’ll duel you!"

The Shadow God shot out from the side on a skateboard, challenging the Missionary of Love to a duel first before speeding down a nearby ramp.

A duelist can only participate in one duel at a time.

Having been intercepted, the Missionary of Love could only cast a regretful glance at Duan Fei before chasing after the Shadow God.

Confirming that the plan was proceeding smoothly, Duan Fei gave the Shadow God a grateful wave and then concealed himself to await the final showdown.

Although he was on a skateboard, darting all over the place, the Shadow God was still just a primary school student. His stamina was no match for a freak like the Missionary of Love.

Another half hour passed. The Missionary of Love, now drenched in sweat, cornered the Shadow God in a dead-end alley.

Just as he was about to start the duel, the Shadow God immediately said, "I give up."

Taking the champion’s certificate from the Shadow God, the Missionary of Love frowned and asked, "What are you guys trying to do?"

"Mess with you," the Shadow God said, sitting on the ground and panting.

"Where are the last two!"

"At your house!"

"Still trying to be a smart-mouth at a time like this. You need my ’love hug and spin.’ Wait, are you kidding me?"

"Nope, I’m not. They’re right at your house." The Shadow God gave a tired laugh. "Your mother has already been ’conquered’ by Jinghong! She’s putty in her hands now!"

"What? Mother!"

Forgetting all about "outputting love" to the Shadow God, the Missionary of Love scrambled over a wall in a few quick movements and sprinted in a straight line toward his home. Ten minutes later, he saw his mother and Jinghong.

"Mother!"

"Be quiet." Chansi Yu’s mother rapped the Missionary of Love on the head with her knuckles, knocking him to the ground.

Fiddling with the cards in front of her, she said thoughtfully, "This stuff is pretty interesting. It really sounds like it could improve his grades. Um, Jinghong, my son just got back. Could you...?"

"Oh, I can’t," Jinghong said, waving her hands. "I’m not very good at this. But my friend, Li Changkong, is an expert. He’s actually on his way to pick me up right now. We could have him play with Chansi Yu."

"Wouldn’t that be too much trouble for you all?" Chansi Yu’s mother asked, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Not at all. Classmates are supposed to help each other out."

The Missionary of Love stared wide-eyed at Jinghong, finally understanding what Duan Fei and the others were up to.

’To shoot the rider, first shoot the horse. To capture the thief, first capture his mother!’

’Duan Someone, you guys are despicable!’
