As the commander of one of the Alliance’s thirteen Legions, Corps Commander Thun possessed the authority to mobilize most of the Federation’s secret forces. This included, but was not limited to, revoking and bestowing the title of Star Gate Governor, mobilizing most local military forces, and command over the Alliance’s most important Dark Power: the Superpower Corps.

This clandestine Legion wasn’t large, but every single one of its members was a Superpower User.

A chip had been implanted in every Superpower User’s brain. Years of indoctrination and repeated brainwashing had conditioned them completely, turning them into the Alliance’s most loyal and ferocious hounds.

A squad of Superpower Users was urgently mobilized. They would pass through the Star Gate, switch to a new warship, and pursue the Long Range at top speed.

Meanwhile, aboard the Long Range, the ship had already changed its original destination and was now heading toward the next Star Gate.

While everyone else entered the preparation room, Duan Fei sat cross-legged in the warehouse, gazing up through a porthole and staring directly into the Void.

This was the third time he had stared directly into the Void.

Each time he did, he could feel his passive [Void Resistance] grow rapidly.

This time, he had only just begun to stare when the passive reached Great Success.

To reach the Master level, simply staring into the Void was not enough. He also needed to possess some knowledge of the Void to advance further.

Every time he stared, Duan Fei could feel the Void’s corruption intensifying. Countless dark tentacles descended from outer space, trying to drag him into the Void itself.

Duan Fei was certain that if his Talent Effect wasn’t "reduce all damage to 1," he would have died here long ago.

’Still, being groped by these tentacles feels really awful.’

Duan Fei wanted to control the Power of the Void. On one hand, he wanted to deepen his understanding of his ultimate skill, [Spiritual Armor]. On the other, he also wanted to add a prefix to his Profession.

A modifier could be added to a Profession’s name. This diversified the Professional System and allowed certain special Skills to integrate with Professional Skills, creating special bonuses.

For example, Cuihua’s professional prefix was "Dark," so she was a Dark Chef, and everything she made was poisonous.

Duan Fei’s goal, however, was to add the "Void" prefix to his Summoner Profession. That way, some of his Professional Skills could affect his [Spiritual Armor], making the Spiritual Armor even more powerful.

’Besides, the name Void Summoner sounds pretty badass.’

’Spiritual Summoner wouldn’t be bad either.’

After the Long Range left the Void and re-entered normal space, a new Star Gate appeared before them.

Spirit Detective Sai Wen was the first to jump out, staring at Duan Fei with wide eyes. For the first time, a look of surprise appeared on her face.

"You’re not dead! Are you a Void Spirit too?"

"Who are you cursing?! Who’s a Pseudo-man?!" Duan Fei retorted, annoyed.

"But... I’ve never seen anyone like you before. Shouldn’t someone who stares directly into the Void be deader than dead?"

"Please don’t lump us in with ordinary mortals."

"Incredible. Truly incredible. Also, I have a question: who is that person next to you?"

The Spirit Detective asked quizzically, staring at the person who had appeared beside Duan Fei.

Before Duan Fei could answer, the person waved a hand and said, "Just call me the Director. You’re the Spirit Detective, right? Enough chitchat. Take off your clothes."

Little Drilling Wind rushed forward, twisted the Director’s arm behind his back, and slammed him to the ground. "A perverted lolicon like you should be taken to the station and shot," he said coldly.

"It’s a misunderstanding! I’m actually a scientist..."

"Oh, and you’re a comedian now, are you?"

"What are you even talking about! I’m a legitimate scientist with unique research on Pseudo-humans. The moment I arrived, I realized that girl isn’t human. So what’s wrong with wanting to study her? Research requires disrobing, doesn’t it? So what’s wrong with me telling her to take off her clothes?!"

This person was none other than the mad scientist Duan Fei had met back when he, Darts Guest, Bystander A, Cuihua, and the others had all teamed up.

This scientist was mad enough to create Pseudo-human Extract and could even stitch together and reanimate the dead. Despite having the face of a movie star, he was a character who charged down the path of anti-humanity like a wild dog off its leash.

Summoning him had not been Duan Fei’s intention. He had originally intended to summon an aberration to experiment with the Void.

He never expected to summon the Director.

This just went to show that being a Summoner in the early stages really sucked; people you had only met a few times and had no real affinity with could be summoned.

It was fine since this was just an experiment, but if a guy like this popped up during a battle... the mere thought made Duan Fei’s heart pound in terror.

The Director’s overwhelming aura of a perverted scientist somehow convinced Little Drilling Wind.

Realizing the other man was also a Pseudo-man enthusiast, Little Drilling Wind released his grip, pulled the Director to his feet, and said amicably, "Sorry, I misjudged you."

"It’s nothing. Being misunderstood is the fate of a scientist. We can just cooperate from now on. By the way, have you guys dissected this Pseudo-man yet?"

"Don’t say such deranged things right off the bat!"

"Exactly!" the Missionary of Love chimed in. "Could you please not talk about this stuff in front of a minor? And don’t be so cruel! Show some love!"

"Oh, so now it’s *my* fault," the Shadow God said sullenly. "I’m *so* sorry I can only drink milk in a game bar."

Seeing that the group was on the verge of arguing after just a few minutes, Spirit Detective Sai Wen sighed helplessly and took off her backpack.

The moment it hit the floor, the backpack melted into a puddle of silver liquid, quivering on the ground like mercury.

"My clothes and backpack are manifestations of my body. These parts have the same composition as I do. You can use this for your experiments."

"Why are you helping us?" Duan Fei asked warily.

"I dislike seeing problems. A disharmonious team is the biggest problem of all, and I dislike it greatly. So you don’t need to be so wary. I am simply acting on my instincts."

Duan Fei wanted to ask something else, but the Spirit Detective had already retreated to a corner, having Little Fatty download math problems for her to do.

According to her, solving these problems provided a great sense of accomplishment and was the best form of entertainment for Spirit Detectives.

The Director and Little Drilling Wind, having obtained the liquid, treated it like a priceless treasure. They begged to find a place to begin their research the moment they got off the ship, determined to uncover the secrets of the Spirit Detective.

Thanks to the Spirit Detective’s "sacrifice," the team’s coordination improved slightly. It smoothed things over between them, and they would be easier to manage going forward.

Pinching his chin, Duan Fei watched the Spirit Detective. ’This kid is actually pretty decent.’

’And her special traits... I wonder if I can make use of them somehow.’

As he was lost in thought, the Long Range, now clear of the Void, approached a new Star Gate: the Land of Exile.
