There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!
Chapter 122 - 55: I Have Gradually Understood Everything"You are beginning to understand the Void. Your comprehension of the Void has reached a new level. You have learned the Passive Skill: [Eye of the Void].
[Eye of the Void]: Your eyes are beginning to connect to the Void, a prerequisite for mastering the Spiritual Energy within it. Only with these eyes can you obtain the extraordinary Spiritual Energy from the Void and embark on the path of the transcendent. With each level up, your proficiency in absorbing and utilizing Spiritual Energy will increase.
However, you will also suffer constant attacks from the Void. Only by surviving these assaults can you master the true Eye of the Void.
Because you have obtained three Void-related Skills ([Spiritual Armor], [Void Resistance], and [Eye of the Void]), Void Skills will now be integrated into your Professional System. You have unlocked a special Profession: Void Summoner."
After the system notification faded, Duan Fei’s eyes instantly turned as black as ink. Something felt like it was trying to burst out from within them.
The ferocious force threatened to rupture his eyeballs, causing two streams of black, bloody tears to instantly course down his face.
At his feet, an ancient tome lay open. The page it was turned to depicted a supplicant praying to the Void, their eyes blackened and streaming with bloody tears—a perfect mirror of Duan Fei’s current state.
Sensing Duan Fei’s strange transformation, the Spirit Detective at his side realized he had become a walking source of the Void. The familiar feeling was irresistible, and she pressed closer to him like a puppy that had found its mother, greedily seeking this "maternal affection."
It looked a little terrifying, but Duan Fei actually felt fine.
After all, the damage was a constant 1 point. A quick [Rough Healing Technique] every few minutes would fix him right up.
Everything in his field of vision had grown a little dimmer, but the clarity was much higher, and he could see farther. It seemed that along with gaining the [Eye of the Void] passive, his vision had also been greatly enhanced.
’The only annoying part is that it feels like there are little people living inside my eyes, pushing against my corneas every now and then. It’s a little weird.’
Other than that, everything was great.
"Good. I’m starting to understand everything."
Duan Fei bought a roll of bandages from a roadside stall and wrapped it around his eyes so he wouldn’t look too horrifying.
He returned to his spot, and just as he finished the book, he noticed a few figures dressed similarly to him approaching.
These people wore dark red cloaks and necklaces that resembled the front of a locomotive. Strange mechanical contraptions were attached to their legs, emitting a peculiar, steam-engine-like chugging sound with every step.
They also had their eyes wrapped in bandages, from which red blood seemed to be seeping. But one look was all it took for Duan Fei to know they were fakes.
They didn’t have the slightest trace of the Void’s aura about them.
However, these fakes seemed to hold a high status here. As they passed, the roadside vendors immediately cleared a path. Some people even rushed forward to kiss the ground they had walked on as a sign of respect.
"Those guys are fanatics from the Mechanical Sect," Sai Wen said, pressing close to Duan Fei. "They worship all ancient mechanical creations and are hostile to the current technological system. They’re also a very aggressive sect. Don’t say anything, just let them pass."
"Got it. But can you not stand so close to me? I don’t like strangers in my personal space."
"Don’t be shy, Mom."
"...You don’t want a ’big bro-sis,’ so now you’re looking for a ’guy mom’?! And why the hell am I your mom?!"
"I like the name."
"Well, I don’t. Help me."
Even though Duan Fei had backed away slightly, his appearance had already caught the attention of the Mechanical Sect.
As the members of the Mechanical Sect halted, others also noticed Duan Fei’s attire. Countless gazes converged on him, making him feel uneasy.
Before he could leave, several peripheral members of the Mechanical Sect stepped forward and blocked his path.
A core member stepped forward, placed an ancient Sacred Artifact before Duan Fei, and bellowed, "Repent! Repent before the Lord!"
Peering through his bandages, Duan Fei stared at the ancient Sacred Artifact in disbelief and asked, "There’s something wrong with this sect. Why do I have to repent to a mechanical keyboard? I know they both have ’mechanical’ in the name, but I really don’t think this thing qualifies as holy!"
"How dare you insult our Sacred Artifact!"
"It’s not that. I’m actually a follower of Pastaism. My faith dictates that I can only worship hot oil-seared noodles and the people who make them. You want me to kneel to a mechanical keyboard? I just can’t bring myself to do it."
Flustered by Duan Fei’s words, the cultist shrieked, "Make him shut up! Make him repent!"
"Can those two things even be done at the same time?!"
"Shut up and repent!"
"Do you have ears?!"
One of the cultists finally lost his patience. He snatched the keyboard and smashed it over Duan Fei’s head, dealing a terrifying 1 point of damage and knocking the bandages from his face.
Not to be outdone, Duan Fei gripped his Physics Holy Sword Crowbar and viciously smashed it into the cultist before him.
The Splash damage was incredibly effective. Every believer within a one-meter radius took a heavy hit.
Of course, one of them was being particularly vicious.
They dealt one point of damage to me, while every one of my hits was bone-crushing.
Even without activating his Spiritual Armor, Duan Fei used his excellent Crowbar Skill to brutally beat the group to the ground.
Planting his foot on a believer’s back, Duan Fei roared, "Come on! Get up and keep fighting! My [Crowbar Skill] just reached Minor Success! Get up and help this master reach Great Success!"
"You heretic!" one of the believers snarled.
"You’re the heretics! A bunch of fakes who don’t even dare to look into the Void! What are you all pretending for?!"
Only then did the core believer notice Duan Fei’s black eyes and the phantoms constantly trying to burst from them. He froze instantly.
He then let out a bloodcurdling scream and clutched his eyes in agony, but large amounts of black blood still seeped through his fingers.
His violent movements threw back his hood, revealing his bald head and the serial numbers branded on either side of it.
He was a Superpower User.
Before Duan Fei could react, the believer collapsed to his knees. A white liquid began to flow from his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, turning transparent shortly after it emerged.
Then, to Duan Fei’s surprise, all sound vanished. Something was approaching him, step by step, trying to enter his body.
And then... it got stuck.
Duan Fei could feel it thrashing around inside him. It tried to make his body explode several times, but each attempt only dealt 1 point of damage.
He already knew the thing inside him was a Void Spirit. It had gotten in easily enough, but the only way out was to make Duan Fei explode.
In other words, the Void Spirit was trapped.
After an awkward stalemate, the Void Spirit tore itself apart, dissolving into pure Energy that dissipated within Duan Fei’s body.
Then, the system’s voice announced: [You have absorbed a Pseudo-man. Your Strength Attribute has increased by 2 points.]
’This feeling...’
’...is pretty damn good!’
