A sharp pain shot through his head, and Sun Jianguo clutched it, slumping weakly to the side.

After the pain finally subsided, he stood up and noticed something clutched in the skeleton’s hand.

Prying the object loose, Sun Jianguo saw that it was a diary.

He opened the diary and read a few pages. Then, he froze completely.

"July 14th

Those fucking idiots. Those fucking idiots who are jealous of my talent!

My theory is correct. Buildings are not just buildings; they should be gods to mankind.

Buildings possess a Power far greater than humans. They are creations of man, and thus should also be man’s masters.

Just you wait. I will prove myself."

...

"January 2nd

The feng shui here is excellent. It’s a perfect place, sitting in yin and facing yang.

But the apartment building constructed here isn’t quite right. It doesn’t have the feeling I want.

The apartment I desire should have its own will, a life of its own, like a living creature. That is the true form a building should take.

Perhaps I need to use some... special methods?

For example, a sacrifice?"

...

"January 13th

It’s the New Year, and Xiao Wang from the front gate didn’t go home.

I’ve been planning for a long time. I’ve finally decided to make my move tomorrow.

Tower God, please bless me."

"January 14th

Success.

I brought a flask of liquor for Xiao Wang. He didn’t suspect a thing, thanks to me cozying up to him all this time.

I dragged him to the water tank and pushed his head under. That’s all it took.

His body will probably be discovered in the spring, but that doesn’t matter. I’m already prepared."

...

"January 11th

I’ve been here for almost a year, and they still haven’t found me.

Then again, I designed this entire building. It’s full of secret passages; they’ll never find me.

Uncle Zhao is such a coward. I just had to play ghost to scare him for a few days, and one good scare in person was all it took to finish him.

This year’s sacrifice is secured. Now, I just have to wait for next year."

...

"January 7th

Granny Liu is dead, too.

I had planned to stab her to death, but the woman was stronger than I thought. She ended up stabbing me instead.

Even though I managed to kill her with the gas explosion in the end, I don’t think I’m going to make it.

Just a little more. I’m still one sacrifice short."

"January 6th

I’ve done it.

Sacrificing myself was a good idea.

But I’m not yet complete. I’ve only managed to merge myself with the building. I’m still missing something... special.

But I can feel it. That child, the one named Sun Yu... he is a very special existence.

As long as I can devour him, I will definitely be able to..."

Reading this, Sun Jianguo broke out in a cold sweat.

His head was a throbbing mess, making it nearly impossible to think. All he knew was that he had to get Sun Yu out of here.

Gripping his hammer, he charged madly up the stairs, racing toward the eighteenth floor.

He threw open the door and saw Sun Yu by his mother’s bedside, talking to her. "Xiao Yu, come with me!" he yelled.

"What’s wrong?" Sun Yu asked, surprised.

"No time for questions! We have to leave, now!"

He yanked Sun Yu to his feet and bolted downstairs, only to find someone blocking his path on the first floor.

The figure wore a security guard’s uniform, but his body was swollen and deformed, like a bloated corpse.

Standing in his way, the figure mumbled something unintelligible. As he spoke, black, foul-smelling blood trickled from his mouth, dripping continuously onto the floor.

Seeing the figure trying to stop him, Sun Jianguo immediately swung the hammer, smashing it down on the man’s shoulder.

With a muffled groan, the bloated corpse collapsed in pain but still managed to grab Sun Jianguo’s leg, trying to keep him from leaving.

He kept trying to speak, spitting out blood and garbled noises.

Watching the bloated corpse try to talk while vomiting blood, Sun Jianguo raised the hammer again and brought it down on the man’s hand until he let go.

Leaping over the body, Sun Jianguo surged forward again, only to be suddenly tripped by a mop thrust from the side.

In mid-air, he struggled to twist his body, shielding Sun Yu with his own as his back slammed hard onto the floor.

Turning his head, he saw the janitor, Uncle Zhao, waiting for him with an ashen face. The old man then walked stiffly toward him.

The mop rained down blows on Sun Jianguo. He scrambled pitifully to his feet, sent Uncle Zhao flying with a kick, and continued to sprint away, clutching Sun Yu.

"Dad, what are you doing!" Sun Yu cried out in disbelief. "Why did you hurt Brother Wang? Why did you kick Uncle Zhao?"

"Son, stop it! Listen to me, they’re not human! They’re ghosts! They’ve been dead for a long time! A guy named Uncle Peng did it!"

"What are you talking about!"

"I saw it all! I found the place! Those tourists aren’t people either, they’re ghosts! This place isn’t clean! Let’s go!"

"No, what on earth are you talking about? Uncle Peng is a bit paranoid, but he’s really not..."

"Stop lying to me! Son, you’ve been bewitched! Don’t worry about anything, just come with me quietly!"

Reaching the entrance, Sun Jianguo saw a familiar figure.

Uncle Peng, wearing his gold-rimmed glasses, was still kowtowing to the apartment building. He turned pale with fright when he saw the murderous Sun Jianguo, but upon seeing Sun Yu in his arms, he immediately said, "Brother Sun, don’t be rash! Put the child down! We can talk this out!"

"Go to hell!"

The thought that the man before him was the cause of everything made Sun Jianguo’s blood boil. He tossed Sun Yu into a nearby snowbank and swung the hammer at Uncle Peng’s head.

The blow was immensely powerful, whistling through the air as it descended, aimed to shatter Uncle Peng’s skull.

Just as the hammer was about to land, a slender figure appeared.

Jinghong’s movements were deceptively fast. Her slender fingers tapped his arm, then smoothly traced a circle, completely neutralizing the force of his attack.

With another tap from her thumb, Sun Jianguo’s arm felt as if it had been shocked. He let out a grunt as the hammer fell uncontrollably from his grasp, only to be kicked aside by Jinghong.

Realizing the young woman before him was not to be trifled with, Sun Jianguo’s ferocity only intensified. He lunged at Jinghong, intending to strangle her.

But Jinghong merely retreated with a sidestep. A Yo-Yo appeared in her hand, and she expertly wrapped its string around Sun Jianguo, binding him and forcing him to the ground, unable to move.

Once everything was settled, Jinghong gestured for Duan Fei to come over.

Stepping forward, Duan Fei examined Sun Jianguo and saw that his eyes were bloodshot and he didn’t look right.

Using his Medical Skill to check the man’s condition, Duan Fei found two abnormal statuses.

"Cognitive Filter" and "Madness."

After reading the description of the first status, Duan Fei understood why the man had been so hostile toward them.

Due to some kind of anomaly, Sun Jianguo couldn’t see them for who they were.

He only saw that something was wrong with his son and wanted to save him.

To any outsider, Sun Jianguo just looked like a madman.

A madman who would harm his own colleagues.
