There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!
Chapter 178 - 44: An Easy OpponentThe moment the evil creature was destroyed, Uncle Peng, who was out for a run, came to a stop.
Lifting his shirt, he saw one of the Earth Puppets he was carrying had crumbled to dust and immediately understood what had happened in the basement.
’I thought he was just some guy who knew a little Qi Gong. I can’t believe he killed the evil creature I’d placed inside right after he went in. It seems he’s got some real skill.’
He pushed back his hair and took off his Glasses. The once neurotic-looking Uncle Peng now appeared perverse and ruthless, and the smile on his face turned sinister.
’So be it.’
’I had planned to use Sun Jianguo to get rid of the others and use them as sacrifices to raise the grade of my evil creatures, but two outsiders ended up interrupting everything.’
He had wanted to escape as quickly as possible, but seeing the snowstorm outside grow heavier, he knew that escape was likely impossible.
But that was fine. He still had another trick up his sleeve.
He opened his coat to reveal over a dozen Earth Puppets lined up, each one emanating a foreboding aura.
Grabbing one of the Earth Puppets, Uncle Peng said fiercely, "Get to work for me, and do it properly. I have all of your ashes. If you don’t want to be wiped out completely, you’ll listen to me. Now, prepare for Possession. You must take control of one of them for me."
The seventeen Earth Puppets began to tremble slightly, indicating they understood.
"Good. ’Duan Someone’ and ’Jing Someone’... those are obviously fake names. Looks like those two are pretty experienced. I’ll go back to the infirmary first and take control of the others. That way, I’ll have some hostages."
Quickly returning to the infirmary, Uncle Peng had just stepped inside when he saw Jinghong sitting directly opposite the door, engrossed in a comic book.
Seeing Jinghong, who looked like an Ice and Snow Goddess, Uncle Peng’s heart skipped a beat. But he quickly calculated the time and hurriedly asked, "Jing Someone, you didn’t go down to the basement with Duan Someone?"
"No. I came back as soon as he went in. He told me to stand guard here."
Uncle Peng was about to ask another question when Jinghong placed her comic book face down and flicked her wrist.
A Yo-Yo shot out. Its heavy body grazed past Uncle Peng’s earlobe before bizarrely changing direction and wrapping once around his neck.
The sharp string dug into his throat, slicing through the thin skin and drawing blood.
Staring coldly at Uncle Peng, Jinghong said, "I have a few questions for you. I’d appreciate it if you’d tell me the truth. Who are you, really?"
Uncle Peng didn’t speak. He just shook his head and smiled.
Then, she yanked hard. The steel wire sliced across his neck, severing an artery. Uncle Peng knelt on the ground in agony before he stopped breathing.
The moment he died, his body turned to dirt and collapsed onto the floor.
Looking at the pile of dirt, Jinghong opened her messenger app, took a screenshot, and sent it to Duan Fei with a message: "He got away. Left a pile of dirt behind. What’s the play?"
"You go back to your comic. I’ll take care of him."
"Okay."
Sitting back down, Jinghong opened her comic, ready to continue reading, when she heard the sound of a soda can being opened next to her.
Turning her head, she saw Xiao Wang opening a can of cola. Sun Yu took it and offered it to her with the utmost respect, then asked, "Ma’am, are there any other orders?"
"What’s gotten into you two? I just killed a guy in front of everyone, that’s all."
"Just based on how casually you’re treating this, I’m definitely calling you Boss," Xiao Wang said respectfully. "Boss, you can order us two around however you like. We’ll do anything."
"Help me find volume thirty-nine."
"You got it!"
With Jinghong standing guard, Xiao Wang, Sun Yu, Sun Jianguo, and Uncle Zhao were completely safe in the room.
Currently, the only person left unguarded was Granny Liu in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, the frozen meat in a freezer began to re-form on its own. Before long, Uncle Peng, resurrected by his evil creatures, kicked open the freezer door and crawled out, shivering.
He threw on a work uniform from behind the door, his heart aching as he saw that another five of his Earth Puppets had shattered.
Excluding the one Duan Fei had destroyed earlier, the ones consumed for his resurrection, and the one left inside Sun Yu’s mother, he now had only eleven left.
Every single Earth Puppet was hard to come by, each one requiring a human life to create.
He had gone to great lengths to create eighteen of them, only to lose six today. The loss was truly agonizing.
Grabbing a Sharp Blade from nearby, he prepared to slaughter Granny Liu to recoup some of his losses. But the moment he stepped out, someone smashed him in the arm with a crowbar, sending him painfully to the ground.
Lifting his head, he was shocked to see his attacker was Duan Fei. He couldn’t help but yell, "Duan Someone, how did you know I’d be here?"
"It was an easy guess. You can’t touch the other four people, so Granny Liu was your only option. I just gambled that you’d go after her. It seems your thought process is pretty much what I expected."
"Heh heh heh. You’re a clever one, kid. Go on, do it. It doesn’t matter anyway..."
"It doesn’t matter because you’ll just resurrect again, right?"
Meeting Uncle Peng’s astonished gaze, Duan Fei said, "These evil creatures of yours are Household Spirits. They come in a set of eighteen and need to be slowly refined with human lives after they’re formed. But even after reaching Great Success, they’re only on the same Level as the Five Ghost Transport Technique. This thing of yours is just some third-rate Evil Magic. Why do you value it so much?"
This was all information Bald Qiang had analyzed after seeing the screenshot. Now was the perfect chance for Duan Fei to act like an expert in front of the Black Hand and see if he could fish for some intelligence.
"What do you know! If you had seen those miraculous things... No, wait. You’re a legend yourself. That method of restoring someone’s health wasn’t Qi Gong, it was an Immortal Technique! Are you an Immortal?"
Staring intently at Duan Fei, Uncle Peng’s gaze looked like it could devour him, the emotions within it incredibly complex.
There was the excitement of meeting an idol, the regret of unobtainable desires, and an even deeper jealousy, as if he resented Duan Fei for possessing such profound abilities at such a young age.
But Duan Fei just shook his head and asked, "So what is it you’re really after?"
"What am I after? I’m just seeking eternal life! The lives of mortals are full of suffering. What’s so wrong with me trying to achieve immortality through my own means?"
"And so, you were planning to kill Sun Yu’s entire family?"
"The people of this world are livestock, and we are the masters. What’s wrong with slaughtering livestock to plunder their lifeblood?"
Looking at Uncle Peng’s twisted face, Duan Fei said with a sense of resignation, "So you’re saying that to the strong, the weak are nothing but livestock?"
"That’s right!"
"Then in front of me, does that make you livestock?"
Turned against by his own logic, Uncle Peng was struck speechless and couldn’t say a word.
Sighing, Duan Fei felt like he was just bored out of his mind, wasting time on a guy with such a warped worldview.
Tapping the crowbar in his hand, Duan Fei decisively smashed the man’s head in.
Watching Uncle Peng’s body turn to dirt, Duan Fei hummed a tune as he walked toward the basement, ready to kill him one more time.
’This guy’s thought process is just too predictable.’
’Next up is to slowly back him into a corner, force his hand until he’s dead for good, and finally clear this instance.’
