"My luck has been insane today," Duan Fei remarked.
"This is beyond lucky," Lone Ranger said. "It’s my first time seeing someone get a gold Legendary drop. I’d believe you if you said you were one of those pop-up ads for legendary gear."
Nemo’s body pixelated again. The group, however, just treated it like a dead fish and dragged it to the side, turning their attention to the Contract Scripture.
After landing on the ground, the Contract Scripture shimmered with a golden light. It was obviously a Legendary-quality item.
In "Abyss," the difference between items or Skills of varying quality was immense.
A Legendary Level item could bring about a world-altering change to a player’s power.
Take Duan Fei’s [Spiritual Armor], for example. After activating it, slicing through a player like Nemo for 20 seconds was child’s play. Moreover, it would only grow stronger as Duan Fei’s Attributes improved.
Picking up the golden Contract Scripture, Duan Fei saw it was a rolled-up piece of parchment. Unfurling it revealed an agreement signed between the mayor of Love City and Nemo.
According to the agreement, the Icefield Walker guild was required to provide Love City with a large amount of Romantic Energy in a short period, as well as eliminate a fixed number of Anomalies, among other things.
The amount of Romantic Energy was massive. The goal was to accumulate a large quantity of Energy in a short time to generate a huge energy bubble, which would push Love City out of the Void and stop it from wandering.
Only by leaving the Void could Love City become a logistics base for the Icefield Walker guild.
The back of the parchment detailed the various benefits and perks of it becoming a logistics base. It was enough to make even Duan Fei a little green with envy.
’The benefits for this logistics base are a little *too* good.’
No wonder every guild wanted a logistics base. These perks were truly fantastic.
"Mm, I get it now. This is an epic quest for Love City. No wonder Nemo was hiring people. So this was the reason."
After reading it carefully, Duan Fei noticed that the final signature line only had the signature of Love City’s mayor; Nemo’s was missing.
Little Fatty, who had crowded over to look, also noticed the missing signature and asked in confusion, "Weird, why didn’t Nemo sign it?"
Duan Fei thought for a moment, then chuckled. "This contract can only be signed in the name of a guild master or vice master. Once signed, it’s locked in by the game system. If he had signed it, he would have done so as the vice master of Icefield Walker. However, if he waited until *after* completing the quest to form a new guild, all the credit would have been his and his alone."
"So you’re saying Nemo was already planning to abandon his guild members and take the reward for himself? That scoundrel!"
"He had some petty cleverness, but no real vision."
"So, Duan Someone, what’s your plan?"
"Hmm... let me think."
To be honest, Duan Fei was very satisfied with Love City.
There were tons of Anomalies here, and his Talent could attract their affection, letting them help him grind mobs and gain experience.
Money, experience, and a limitless future—no matter how he looked at it, this was a great deal.
The only problem was, this thing had to be signed in a guild’s name, and the quest had to be completed in a guild’s name.
But he didn’t really want to join a guild. He disliked being tied down by rules and preferred to be free and unfettered.
Seeing Duan Fei struggling with the decision, Jinghong walked over.
She first recorded a video of Duan Fei’s rare, troubled expression, then glanced at the contract’s contents and immediately knew what he was conflicted about.
"I know what you’re stressing about, but why not just create your own guild? Problem solved, right?"
"But you need five people to create a guild. Where am I supposed to find four people who are unmaterialistic, reasonably strong, and don’t care what their teammates get up to in the game? Wait a minute!"
’Me, Jinghong, Cuihua, Little Fatty...’
’That’s already four people.’
Jinghong was his good bro, Cuihua was socially awkward and a quiet workhorse, and Little Fatty had great computer skills and a personality that suited his tastes.
In other words, he just needed to find one more person, and they’d be all set!
He affectionately ruffled Jinghong’s hair. Flustered by the head-pat, Jinghong immediately leaped out the window and fled, rushing off to the Black Tower to release her energy.
While waiting for Jinghong to return, Duan Fei told the others his plan, then asked excitedly, "Who else do you guys know? We just need to find one more person."
"I..." Cuihua hesitantly raised her hand, but Duan Fei immediately cut her off. "Alright, I know you don’t know anyone. What about you, Little Fatty?"
"I know plenty of people, but they’re all doing time in the slammer."
"...So how are you the one that got away?"
"My skills are just that good!"
"...If you ever get caught, don’t you dare say you know me. Hmm, who else can we find?"
Lone Ranger, standing off to the side, was starting to get a little anxious.
He hadn’t joined a guild because there were very few people he actually respected.
But if Duan Fei wanted to start a guild, he felt he could do the guy a favor and reluctantly join.
After all, shameless as Duan Fei was, he always managed to pull off some new trick. So, joining reluctantly was acceptable.
But after listening for a long time, Lone Ranger realized that Duan Fei never seemed to mention him, and he grew even more agitated.
His pride wouldn’t allow him to speak up, so he could only let out a cough to announce his presence.
Hearing the cough, Duan Fei looked up at Lone Ranger and said, "Oh, Lone Ranger, you’re here?"
"Yeah."
"If you have a cold, go cough outside. Don’t infect me, thanks."
"...How can you get infected in a game!"
"Beats me, but I just have a feeling you’re contagious. Anyway, Little Fatty, think harder. Is there anyone else we know?"
"What about Bald Qiang?"
The sudden mention of the name made Lone Ranger tense up.
His whole body stiffened, and his eyes, hidden beneath his hood, stared intently at Duan Fei.
Duan Fei was seen pulling up his messenger, contacting Bald Qiang, and then sighing. "No good. Bald Qiang already joined a guild. It was founded by his senior brother."
’Oh, hell yeah~’
"Those Daoists are really slacking on their proper duties!" Little Fatty said, shaking his head.
"He says exorcising ghosts in the game also counts as meritorious service and is a proper path of cultivation."
"What kind of digital wooden fish is that!"
Seeing that Bald Qiang was a no-go, Lone Ranger breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to speak, he heard Duan Fei say, "Darts Guest could also work. I’ll go ask him. If he can’t, then we’re really out of options."
Lone Ranger’s eyes widened, his heart raced, and he watched Duan Fei nervously.
A few minutes later, Duan Fei said happily, "He hasn’t joined a guild, and he said he can come over and take a look. I’ve already told him the address and sent my key over."
Lone Ranger finally couldn’t wait any longer.
He stood up and said, "I’m going to the bathroom. You guys carry on."
Then, he transformed into a shadow and swiftly appeared in front of the high tower.
Seeing the player with "Darts Guest" floating above his head appear, he decisively knocked the man unconscious, hid the body, and returned to the warehouse.
The moment he walked in, he heard Duan Fei say, "Damn, Darts Guest just passed out for no reason."
"Then let’s go look for him," said Little Fatty.
"We probably won’t be able to find him. Right, Lone Ranger?"
Watched by Duan Fei with a half-smile on his face, Lone Ranger broke out in a cold sweat and said stiffly, "Yeah."
"Well, that’s a bit of a problem. To be honest, I barely slept last night, and I’d like to log off and get some rest. But if I rest now, it’ll be hard to get the work done later. So we really need to find everyone quickly, don’t you think?"
"Yeah."
"So, what do you think I should do? Should I wait for Darts Guest, or should I invite you to join?"
Lone Ranger let out a long breath. He knew Duan Fei had another piece of leverage over him now.
Lowering his head, he said sincerely, "Please, you must let me join."
"Good boy~"
