Chapter 314: Chapter 314
"Horcrux? What’s that?"
Lupin was a bit dazed when he suddenly heard this term.
Having been a Wizard for so many years and being a member of the Order of the Phoenix, he didn’t consider himself a stranger to the Dark Arts, but he had truly never heard this word before.
Lynn opened his mouth, just about to explain—
"Forget it!"
Sirius’s voice suddenly exploded, giving Lupin a start.
Blood was still seeping from the knuckles of his clenched fists, his eyes were bloodshot, and the expression on his face kept shifting, as if he were in a final struggle with something.
"I’m going to bring him back."
These words were spoken heavily, each word carrying an unquestionable determination.
Lynn and Lupin suddenly turned their heads.
Sirius didn’t look at them.
He stared at the locket in Lynn’s hand, his voice hoarse. "No matter what, I’m going to bring him home... He should be home, not staying at the bottom of that damn lake."
After saying this, he suddenly turned to Kreacher.
The House-elf was still curled up on the ground, tears blurring his face, his whole body trembling.
"Kreacher! I command you to take me to that Cave! Bring Regulus home!"
Kreacher’s body gave a violent jolt.
"Kreacher..." His voice was high and thin, shaking terribly. "Kreacher is willing to obey the young master’s orders!"
"Then let’s go!"
Sirius strode forward, reaching out to grab Kreacher’s shoulder.
His movements were fast, but someone was faster.
Lupin suddenly wedged himself between him and Kreacher, spreading his arms to block his path.
"Remus!" Sirius’s voice rose. "What do you mean by this?"
Lupin waved his hand, the expression on his face very calm.
"Don’t misunderstand," he said. "I’m not trying to stop you. But going like this is too reckless—don’t forget, that’s the place where You-Know-Who hides things."
"I don’t care, Remus." Sirius’s jaw was clenched tight. "I don’t care what’s in there, I don’t care what traps he left behind. I only care about one thing—"
"I know." Lupin interrupted him. "What I mean is—I’m coming with you."
Sirius froze for a moment.
Lupin didn’t say anything more; he just stepped forward, grabbing Kreacher’s shoulder with one hand and placing the other on Sirius’s arm.
Sirius glanced at him.
The two of them locked eyes for an instant; no words were spoken, but it seemed as if everything had been said.
"Are you ready?" Lupin asked.
Sirius nodded.
Kreacher reached out a trembling hand and grabbed the hems of their clothes.
Crack—
A loud bang exploded in the room, and the three figures vanished instantly.
In the vast room, only Lynn was left standing.
Lynn looked down at the locket in his hand, then at the spot where the three had disappeared.
He clicked his tongue, stuffed the locket into his pocket, and his wand slid from his sleeve into his palm.
"Levi."
Clang—
A gold-red light brightened beside him, and warm sparks of light scattered on the floor. Levi poked his head out from the light, tilting his head to look at him.
"Master, are we going to fight?"
Lynn: "..."
"Catch up to those three in front."
Levi flapped his wings, the gold-red light enveloping the two of them, and they vanished from the spot in the blink of an eye.
—
A dizzying sensation followed.
The moment Lupin’s feet hit solid ground, his stomach churned.
A House-elf’s Apparition was even more jarring than a Portkey, like being stuffed into a drum, spun a dozen times, and then thrown out.
He shook his head, forcing himself to steady.
The air was salty.
Very salty.
Sirius shook his head, frowning as he looked around at the jagged rocks, then glanced at the gray sky behind them, muttering in a low voice, "A House-elf’s way of traveling really isn’t great."
"Is that so?"
A voice drifted over from the side, carrying a hint of nonchalance.
Sirius replied offhandedly, "Try doing it from—"
His words caught in his throat.
He whipped his head around.
Lynn was standing right next to him, leaning against the rock wall with his hands in his pockets, looking completely unbothered.
Lupin also turned his head, his eyes wide. "Lynn! How are you here?!"
Lynn spread his hands. "It’s all Apparition; is it that hard for me to follow?"
The two men’s eyes grew even wider.
Sirius stared at him, his mouth opening and closing.
"You... this..." His voice was stuttering. "How old are you? It’s illegal to do that without a license!"
Lynn looked at him and blinked. "Oh, do you have evidence?"
Sirius was choked up.
He stood with his mouth open, stunned for several seconds, before finally shaking his head mechanically.
"Then I didn’t break the law," Lynn said matter-of-factly, nodding.
Lupin coughed from the side, just about to speak—
"Don’t say anything about it being dangerous," Lynn interrupted him directly. "If something really happens, you two might not be as safe as I am."
Lupin’s mouth snapped shut.
Sirius’s mouth also snapped shut.
The two looked at each other, both seeing the same thing in the other’s eyes—they wanted to argue, but it seemed they really couldn’t.
The two of them combined right now might truly not be as capable in a fight as Lynn.
"Alright." Lynn didn’t care about their reaction; he started walking into the Cave. "Don’t dawdle, it’s almost dark."
Lupin and Sirius exchanged a look and followed him.
The Cave was deeper than they had imagined.
The path beneath their feet grew narrower, the rock walls on both sides drew closer, and the daylight above had long been left behind, swallowed by the thick darkness.
The air became saltier and more stifling.
After walking for about the time it takes to eat a meal, the path ahead suddenly opened up.
Then they saw a wall.
The wall was embedded in the deepest part of the Cave, bare, without any decoration, and showing no signs of artificial carving.
But its presence here was telling enough—a natural Cave wouldn’t grow such a flat wall.
"It’s here!" Kreacher’s excited voice came from behind.
The House-elf had somehow scurried to the very front, pointing at the wall, his whole body trembling.
After speaking, he produced a table knife from somewhere.
Sirius frowned. "What do you want that for?"
Kreacher didn’t answer. He gripped the handle tightly, aiming it at his own wrist.
"Blood is needed to open this place; Kreacher’s blood is enough."
Just as the blade was about to fall, a hand suddenly reached out and snatched the table knife away.
Sirius gripped the handle and rolled up his sleeve, revealing his forearm. "I’ll do it."
Before the blade could touch his skin, it was snatched away by another hand.
Lupin hid the table knife behind his back, looking at the two of them expressionlessly. "Both of you, settle down."
"Remus—"
"I said, I’ll do it."
The three of them began to argue in the Cave, each louder than the last, each with a more valid reason.
Sirius said he was Regulus’s brother and should be the one; Lupin said he was the most experienced and could handle any traps; Kreacher wailed that it was his fault and he should be the one to atone.
Lynn stood to the side, watching this scene, completely stunned.
He stared at the wall for a long while.
From his level of magic, this wall was just a door that needed blood to open—it wasn’t a Portkey, nor did it require specific blood authentication.
One could only say that the Socket Spirit had a rather sick sense of humor.
Lynn silently took a few steps back and raised his wand.
"Confringo!"
Boom—!!!
An Explosion Charm, with power far exceeding what an ordinary Wizard could release, shot from the tip of his wand and slammed heavily into the bare rock wall.
Rocks shattered, and dust filled the air.
The entire wall was torn apart from the middle as if by a giant hand, cracking into countless pieces that flew in all directions. Dust covered the three men from head to toe, making them cough violently.
The dust cleared.
A doorway was revealed, its edges jagged, with rubble scattered all over the ground.
On the other side of the hole was an even deeper darkness.
Kreacher was the first to react. He screamed and rushed into the doorway, "It’s here! It’s here! Kreacher won’t remember it wrong!"
Lupin and Sirius stood where they were, looking at the blasted doorway, then at Lynn, and fell silent.
They were just arguing over who would slit their wrist, getting red in the face as if they were going to an execution ground. In the end, the other guy solved it with a single Explosion Charm.
This feeling was quite...
"Let’s go, what are you standing there for?" Lynn had already stepped over the pile of rubble, walking inside without looking back.
The two looked at each other and followed.
Behind the doorway was a massive Underground Lake.
They stood on the shore, the slippery stone slabs beneath their feet, and before them was a vast expanse of black water that seemed to have no end.
The water was as black as ink, as heavy as lead, without any ripples.
The light from Lynn’s wand tip cast onto the water’s surface, only illuminating a small area at their feet; any further, and the light was swallowed by the blackness, without even leaving a ripple.
In the distance, seemingly in the center of the lake, a faint glow flickered.
Kreacher moved familiarly to the edge of the lake, squatting down, his hands fumbling in the air.
His fingers moved through the void as if searching for something.
Lynn waved his wand and cast a Revealing Charm.
The light fell on the air above the lake, and a thin chain emerged from the darkness.
One end of it disappeared into the lake water, and the other end was connected to something—that thing was at the bottom of the lake, being pulled up by the chain, rising.
The water rippled.
A boat’s prow emerged from the black lake water, dripping wet, with water streaming down the hull.
The boat wasn’t large; it looked like it could hold two or three people at most.
"It seems Lord Voldemort also needed a way to cross the lake." Lynn looked at the small boat, his tone carrying a bit of mockery. "He couldn’t exactly swim across—though with the way he looks, he really is suited for soaking in the water."
