Chapter 337: Chapter 337

"How many Dementors in total have left Azkaban?"

That Dementor remained silent for a moment before answering with a rattling clack-clack.

"Seven stacks..."

Lynn’s mind spun rapidly.

Sixty-four in a stack.

This number was etched into his brain. Every time he heard the word "stack," it would automatically pop up.

Probably from playing too many games.

All those years of staying up late mining had carved that memory into the depths of his marrow, along with game-world common sense like "one stack equals sixty-four."

Lynn blurted out instinctively, "Four hundred and forty-eight!"

Dumbledore was stunned.

"I recall that Azkaban shouldn’t have that many Dementors."

Only then did Lynn realize what he had just said.

"Uh, well..."

He scratched his head.

"You misheard. It’s seven groups."

Dumbledore gave Lynn a suspicious look but didn’t press further.

"Seven groups."

Dumbledore repeated, breathing a slight sigh of relief.

"That would be one hundred and forty."

Seeing that Lynn was still full of questions, Dumbledore explained, "Azkaban was divided into several sectors when it was first established, housing criminals of varying degrees. Each sector is guarded by twenty Dementors. For ease of management, the Ministry of Magic established the rule of twenty per group."

Lynn nodded, indicating he had learned something new.

"One hundred and forty."

Lynn repeated the number, his brow furrowing.

"That’s still quite a lot."

Dumbledore also let out a sigh.

"Starting tomorrow, I will be away for a while."

After a pause, he added, "I will be taking Fawkes with me as well."

Lynn’s eyes widened instantly.

"Wait. You don’t actually think I’m going to poach Fawkes, do you?"

This time, it was Dumbledore’s turn to be embarrassed.

"No. Of course not."

Lynn looked at him, waiting for what came next.

"If you have an urgent matter and need to find me," Dumbledore said, his tone returning to that unhurried pace, "go to Professor McGonagall. She knows how to contact me."

"Just to deal with the Dementors?" Lynn asked. "There’s only a hundred or so of them. It shouldn’t take too long, right?"

Dumbledore shook his head.

"It’s not entirely because of the Dementors... In any case, just stay at school and behave. Don’t go anywhere."

"Don’t you worry."

Lynn’s answer was incredibly blunt.

Dumbledore looked at him and said nothing.

The more bluntly you agree, the more worried I am.

This thought circled Dumbledore’s mind again and again, but in the end, he didn’t say it aloud.

He knew Lynn too well.

Saying it would be useless.

Dumbledore set down his teacup and stood up.

He walked over to Lynn and reached out.

Fawkes hopped off Lynn and landed on his shoulder.

The next second, a burst of red fire ignited.

Fawkes’s wings spread, and the light enveloped Dumbledore, Fawkes, and that Dementor.

Lynn was once again left alone in the office.

...

Leaving the office, Lynn once again set out on the path toward the Forbidden Forest.

He muttered as he walked, "I don’t believe it. Is it really this hard to just go collect some materials in the Forbidden Forest today?"

But sometimes, luck was just...

Speechless.

Lynn had just reached the entrance to the Great Hall—

BANG—!

The castle’s main doors were violently pushed open from the outside.

A crowd of young wizards came rushing in from outside in a chaotic swarm.

They were running frantically and messily, with snow clinging to their robes, hair, and eyelashes.

Someone had even lost a shoe while running, stepping on the cold stone floor with one bare foot, yet they seemed completely oblivious to the cold.

Lynn reached out and stopped a young wizard running past him.

It was a Gryffindor boy, a third-year with several freckles on his face.

When Lynn stopped him, his whole body jerked violently as if startled by something.

He looked up, and seeing that it was Lynn, the fear in his eyes receded slightly.

"What happened?" Lynn asked.

"De... Dementors! There are so many Dementors in the castle!"

Lynn’s brow furrowed.

He was just about to go out and see what was going on when he heard a shrill scream explode behind him.

"Everyone be quiet!"

The voice was high-pitched and thin, coming from the other end of the Entrance Hall and drilling straight into Lynn’s ears.

Lynn turned his head.

Umbridge, dressed entirely in pink, was standing there pointing fingers at the young wizards.

"It’s just one Dementor! To think you’re all scared like this!"

She strode toward the castle gates, her high heels making a click-clack-click-clack sound on the stone floor.

Lynn just watched her walk past him without saying a word.

Respecting others’ fates and letting go of the urge to help.

This perfectly described Lynn’s current behavior.

Umbridge walked to the castle gates and stood still.

When she saw a single Dementor flying toward her from the distance, she immediately sneered.

"Pfft! Just one Dementor, and look at how scared you are."

She raised her wand, pointing the tip at the approaching Dementor.

"Who allowed you to come to Hogwarts?!"

The Dementor was actually taken aback for a moment by her bluster.

It hovered in midair, its hood tilting slightly as if sizing up this human who dared to give it orders.

Seeing this, Umbridge became even more arrogant.

Her chin lifted higher, the curve of her mouth widened, and the finger pointing at the Dementor jabbed twice in the air.

"I said—get back to Azkaban immediately!"

But this time, the Dementor was not to be intimidated.

It tilted its head and stared at Umbridge for two seconds.

Then its body moved.

It drifted toward Umbridge, opening its mouth to emit a long string of rattling sounds that were meaningless to Umbridge.

"Clack-clack-clack..."

Come quickly!

There’s a huge pile of food here!

Lynn heard it clearly.

He silently walked to the castle door, reached out, grabbed the handle, and pulled hard.

BANG!

The castle gates slammed shut.

Umbridge was startled by the sudden sound of the door closing and took half a step back.

"Why are you closing the door?!"

Umbridge’s voice pitched higher again.

"Didn’t you see that the Dementor has already been—"

Her voice jammed.

Because she saw at least dozens of Dementors on the horizon rushing toward her.

They were flying from the direction of the Forbidden Forest, from the direction of the Black Lake, and from the wings of the castle.

Flying in from all directions.

Umbridge’s face changed at a speed visible to the naked eye.

"Open the door! Open the door quickly!"

She yanked on the door several times, but it remained motionless as if it had been locked.

Lynn stood behind the door, one hand in his pocket.

"Professor Umbridge, we’re afraid of Dementors too."

...

In the end, Umbridge did not die at the hands of the Dementors.

This was probably the most disappointing news Lynn had heard all day.

He even felt that if Umbridge were simply taken away by the Dementors, the corridors of Hogwarts would probably be much quieter, the atmosphere in the classrooms would probably be much more relaxed, and even the air would become fresher.

That pink toad actually survived.

Just as she was about to be kissed by a Dementor, a beam of silvery-white light shot from the distance.

Then—

The Dementors scattered and fled as if they had been burned by something.

This caused Lynn, who had been peering through the crack in the door to watch the live broadcast, to feel quite regretful.

Why couldn’t they have sucked this pink toad dry?

He sighed in his heart.

"Open the door. The Dementors have been driven away by me."

Professor McGonagall’s voice came from outside.

Lynn shrugged, waved his wand, and lifted the Anti-Alohomora Charm placed on the door.

It was a very simple spell, but its effect was excellent.

So excellent that Umbridge couldn’t pull the door open after a dozen tries.

Lynn felt this spell deserved a Special Contribution to the School Award.

The door opened.

Cold wind surged in from outside as Professor McGonagall walked in, carrying the heavier-than-a-pig Umbridge over her shoulder.

As Professor McGonagall carried her, her entire being radiated a low-pressure aura.

When she saw Lynn, she was momentarily stunned.

"Mr. Lynn..."

"Professor. I’m afraid of Dementors."

Professor McGonagall fell silent.

Who?

Lynn?

Afraid of Dementors?

The same Lynn who chased Dementors all over the train in his third year?

The same Lynn who skilled Giant Kraken at the bottom of the Black Lake and dealt with three champions controlled by the Imperius Curse at the maze entrance?

He’s afraid of Dementors?

Professor McGonagall looked at Lynn’s innocent face and felt that she might be getting old, unable to keep up with this child’s line of thinking.

She couldn’t understand how someone who could chase Dementors away would be "afraid" of them.

She couldn’t understand even more how this child could say such nonsense with such a calm face.

What was his face made of?

Dragon hide?

"You..."

Professor McGonagall opened her mouth to say something, but Lynn didn’t give her the chance.

"Professor!"

Lynn’s voice suddenly rose, carrying a hint of urgency.

"Umbridge is about to expire! You should hurry and take her to the Hospital Wing!"

He pointed at Umbridge floating in the air.

At this moment, Umbridge’s head was lolling to one side, her face deathly pale, her lips purple, and her whole person looked like a corpse that hadn’t quite cooled yet.

Her eyelids were twitching slightly, her fingers were jerking unconsciously, and her mouth was making indistinct sounds.

She really was about to expire.

Being surrounded by dozens of Dementors wouldn’t be pleasant for anyone.

Professor McGonagall gave Lynn a look that said, I’ll settle the score with you later.
