Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Giving Chen Mo the Wealth Code
"That son of a bitch Fang Rulin! He looks so respectable on the surface, but behind the scenes, he’s a conniving, despicable bastard!"
Unlike Chen Mo, who remained silent, Zhao Wan erupted in anger the moment she heard the story and started cursing.
Having started this company from scratch with her husband, she knew exactly who their biggest competitor for this contract was.
Ruilin Innovation. Fang Rulin.
She never imagined that in what should have been a normal business competition, the other party would stoop to the despicable, low-down trick of kidnapping her son.
The man was utterly detestable.
Seeing Zhao Wan curse a blue streak, a look of astonishment crossed Chen Mo’s face.
The Zhao Wan he knew was, just as her name suggested, gentle and serene.
But seeing her like this...
After a moment’s thought, Chen Mo could understand.
’A mother’s love makes her fierce. The man had crossed a mother’s bottom line; reasoning was off the table. Cursing him out was the only logical next step. And even that wouldn’t be enough—the guy definitely had to be sent to prison.’
"His company’s been in bad shape lately, with poor stock performance, and this contract is extremely important."
"The board and shareholders probably put a lot of pressure on him, so he decided to play dirty."
Lu Mingzhe, having cooled down from his anger, began to analyze the other man’s motives.
It might not have been like the driver said, where the boss was the one who suggested making Xuanxuan disappear for a few days.
After all, the boss didn’t know the driver was acquainted with their nanny and her sister.
It was possible the driver came up with the idea himself on the fly and proposed it.
Fang Rulin just went along with it, putting up five million to have the driver carry it out.
"I don’t give a damn if he was under pressure or not! Just throw him in prison! Once he’s in there, he won’t have any pressure at all!"
"And that nanny needs to be fired! Her sister and all their accomplices need to be locked up too!"
Zhao Wan had made up her mind: every single person involved would be going to prison.
"Of course."
Lu Mingzhe didn’t care about the other man’s motives or reasons.
Since the man had kidnapped his son, he wouldn’t let a single one of them get away with it.
"Chen Mo, we have to go back and talk to our lawyer. We also have to fly out of the country tomorrow to negotiate the contract, so we’ll be leaving now."
"Once you’ve looked over that contract and signed it, just mail it directly to my company. You’ll be paid your salary on time every month."
After saying this to Chen Mo, Lu Mingzhe left with his wife.
However, as Lu Mingzhe reached the door, he seemed to remember something and stopped.
"Honey, what was the name of that bastard Fang Rulin’s company again? I seem to have forgotten."
Lu Mingzhe shot Zhao Wan a look and scratched his head as he asked.
"Ruilin Innovation. It’s even a publicly listed company."
The husband and wife were perfectly in sync. Zhao Wan instantly understood her husband’s hint and answered his question nonchalantly.
"Look at my memory. Anyway, Chen Mo, we’ll be going now."
Lu Mingzhe patted Chen Mo’s shoulder, and then they left.
SLAM!
After closing the door, Chen Mo thought about the little act Lu Mingzhe and Zhao Wan had just put on at his doorstep and couldn’t help but shake his head and smile.
’They just handed me the key to a fortune.’
Chen Mo, of course, understood what Lu Mingzhe and his wife meant.
They knew he studied finance and would catch their hint.
After all, some things couldn’t be said outright.
The couple’s meaning was simple: they wanted him to seize the opportunity.
Before Fang Rulin was arrested and the news got out, he should short Ruilin Innovation’s stock.
’I can’t let their good intentions go to waste. Besides, they just transferred three million to me.’
Chen Mo raised his wrist to check the time. The market was about to close.
So he went to his gaming room and deposited the three million, which he’d barely had a moment to get used to, into the Xihe account.
To short a stock, one needed a margin account, which had certain requirements.
Although his Citic account had enough money, it hadn’t been open for the required six months of trading history.
He had no choice but to use the Xihe account.
But it wouldn’t make much of a difference. By the time he finished his trades, the market would likely be closed anyway.
Even if Xia Shiqing found out, it would be too late for her to do anything.
If this were his own key to a fortune, he wouldn’t have minded letting her in on it to make some money.
But this was a tip from Lu Mingzhe, so the fewer people who knew, the better.
He found Ruilin Innovation’s stock and saw that it had already dropped a bit recently due to the company’s poor performance.
But it hadn’t plummeted yet, which meant the news wasn’t out.
He checked the price: Ruilin Innovation was currently trading at 26 yuan per share.
Once the founder and chairman of Ruilin Innovation was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, the stock price would absolutely tank.
’Getting cut in half shouldn’t be a problem.’
Chen Mo stroked his chin, mulling it over.
’I think it could drop to around 10 yuan.’
Chen Mo thought for a moment and made his assessment.
Previously, Fang Rulin’s plan was to use Lu Mingzhe’s son to distract him so he wouldn’t have the state of mind to go abroad and negotiate the contract.
That way, the contract would basically go to Ruilin Innovation.
But now the tables had turned. Lu Mingzhe could go, but Fang Rulin couldn’t.
Ruilin Innovation would most likely lose this crucial contract, causing its stock price to plummet again.
With this double whammy of bad news, Chen Mo estimated that Ruilin Innovation could fall to around 10 yuan.
Ten yuan would be near the bottom. He had heard of Ruilin Innovation; it was a decent tech company.
Even with its recent poor performance, it still had some core technology.
Besides, at that point, the company’s shareholders and management would definitely start buying up shares to stabilize the price.
So 10 yuan was probably the floor.
With the market about to close, time was tight. He didn’t hesitate any longer and started making his moves.
Shorting means you borrow shares of Ruilin Innovation from a broker and sell them at the current price, which was 26 yuan per share.
If the stock price goes up during that time, you lose money.
You lose however much it rises per share.
If the stock price goes down, you make money.
You make however much it falls per share.
It’s the complete opposite of buying a stock and hoping it goes up.
Shorting requires you to post collateral, or margin. The amount of margin you have to put up is equal to the value of the shares you borrow.
The margin ratio is 100%.
If, instead of falling, the stock actually rises, and your losses eat into your margin to a certain point without you adding more funds, you’ll be subject to a margin call and your position will be liquidated.
That would mean a huge loss.
But Chen Mo knew Ruilin Innovation was only going to plummet. It wouldn’t go up by a single point.
’Might as well go big!’
Originally, Chen Mo had only planned to use that three million to short the stock.
But on second thought, an opportunity this good couldn’t be wasted.
So, he deposited another 2.2 million into the account.
This money was originally set aside in case one of his stocks activated its "constitution" and he needed to buy in.
But for now, he’d use a portion of it. He could just sell the nine stocks he bought last time, worth 2.7 million, to replenish the funds later.
Anyway, those nine stocks were only rising by about 1-2% per day on average.
With the money in his account, he directly borrowed 2,000 lots of Ruilin Innovation stock from the broker at 26 yuan per share.
He posted a total of 5.2 million yuan in margin.
If Ruilin Innovation rose to 40 yuan per share, his account’s maintenance margin ratio would drop below 130%, and he would be force-liquidated.
Not only would he not make any money, he would lose 2.8 million yuan.
But that was obviously impossible. Ruilin Innovation wouldn’t rise one bit.
If Ruilin Innovation fell to 20 yuan per share, his profit would be 6 yuan per share.
For 2,000 lots, that would be 1.2 million yuan.
If Ruilin Innovation fell to his projected 10 yuan per share, his profit would be 16 yuan per share.
For 2,000 lots, that would be 3.2 million yuan.
Of course, he would still have to deduct the interest for borrowing the stock, as well as various stamp duties and other fees.
But the returns were still extremely high.
It was safe to say that Lu Mingzhe and his wife had given him the key to a sizable fortune.
After completing all the trades, Chen Mo went to pour himself a glass of water.
After drinking it, he checked the time. It was exactly 3:00 PM. The stock market had closed.
After the market closed, Chen Mo sat in his chair and scrolled through the news, looking for any updates on Ruilin Innovation.
About ten minutes later, Chen Mo finally found the news he was looking for.
"Breaking News! Ruilin Innovation’s Founder and Chairman Taken from Company Headquarters by Police for Investigation, Possibly in Connection with a Kidnapping Case!"
Seeing this headline, Chen Mo smiled.
Ruilin Innovation was bound to crash when the market opened tomorrow!
