—He Yu, run!

That was the message Siya had wanted to convey. That was the secret Siya had discovered!

The person the killer truly wanted to kill was He Yu.

Silence.

The Transfer Station fell into an eerie silence. No one spoke. For that instant, it seemed as though even their breathing had stopped.

Thump, thump, thump—

They could hear their own heartbeats clearly. They could hear the noises made by the other contestants in the distance, as well as every tiny sound around them.

The silent space was so still that even a falling needle could have been heard.

The viewers instantly felt suffocated, their breathing growing heavy.

[Bullet Screen: “Holy fuck!”]

[Bullet Screen: “Even though the analysis thread in the Chat Plaza makes a lot of sense, I still can’t help following He Yu’s train of thought, and fuck, it makes perfect sense too.”]

[Bullet Screen: “Aaaah, so the killer was actually trying to kill He Yu?!”]

Qiong opened her mouth. It took a long while before she finally spoke softly. “So Siya discovered that someone wanted to kill you. She sent you a message telling you to run, and the killer killed Siya first...”

Someone intended to commit murder, but before they could make their move, another person happened to discover them.

So they simply killed the person who had exposed them first.

—The secret could not be allowed to leak.

—Only the dead could never reveal secrets.

Eugene took a deep breath and slowly nodded. “I understand. Someone Siya wasn’t wary of wanted to kill He Yu. Siya died because she accidentally discovered the truth and was silenced.”

His mechanical face, framed by silver hair and black eyes, swept across everyone before finally stopping on Qiong.

“That person might be among us.”

Right now, there were no specific suspects. As a rational person from Mechanical Planet, Eugene could only temporarily place Qiong, who was hiding a secret, at the top of the suspect list.

Yuan Ze and the others were actually thinking the same thing.

Until they found other clues, Qiong would remain the primary suspect.

Unless she revealed the truth.

Qiong pursed her lips and remained silent.

A mocking smile appeared on Zhen Xing’s lips. “Yeah. Killing Siya doesn’t make sense. Killing He Yu makes perfect sense.”

All of them were devoted to digging out the truth. They could practically be called a group of investigators, with He Yu as their leader.

As long as He Yu was killed, the group could be broken apart and defeated one by one until they were eventually wiped out.

The secrets of <Top Talent Show> would remain buried forever, and so would the secrets of the combat power system and the energy system...

What was at stake was far more than just the talent show.

It involved the entire Federation!

Zhante frowned deeply. “Then why didn’t they attack afterward?”

Eugene replied, “He Yu and I appeared together, and Qiong was also at the scene. We disrupted the killer’s plan.”

Qiong nodded, agreeing with him.

At that moment, He Yu held the whistle in his hand. He looked perfectly calm, but his fingertips had gone slightly white.

“They wanted to attack me, but Siya stopped them. Siya died because of me.”

His voice grew hoarse for an instant.

Siya had used her life to delay that person until Qiong, Eugene, and Wanrenzhan arrived.

Only then had He Yu’s life been preserved.

Everyone looked at He Yu.

Ling Buchen’s eyes held distress.

Ever since Siya’s death, He Yu had seemed unusually quiet. He had been holding the whistle the entire time, and throughout the discussion just now, he had also remained silent.

—He had probably formed this conjecture long ago.

Wanrenzhan frowned and spoke roughly. “If it weren’t for you, would she not have died? Would no one else have died? Would we not have died?”

Without He Yu, they would never have planned to overthrow the system in the first place. They would never have discovered these truths.

According to the original rules, only one of them could survive.

—And no one knew who that person would be.

If they continued down this road and still only one person survived, then at least they would have learned the truth. They were fighting against the rules. If they died, their deaths would have meaning.

If more than one person managed to survive, then they would have already gained enormously. All their efforts would have accomplished something.

They had chosen this path themselves.

They had done so willingly.

Siya had not died because of He Yu.

She had died because of the killer, because of the hand behind the scenes, because of the rules!

Eugene nodded. “Wanrenzhan might be stupid, but what he said makes sense.”

Duan Yuchen looked worriedly at He Yu.

Qiong stroked her little finger and spoke softly. “He Yu, it has nothing to do with you. You don’t need to carry any psychological burden. This was Siya’s choice. The ones who killed her were the killer and the hand behind the scenes.”

Zhen Xing and Ling Buchen stood to his left and right. Neither said anything. They simply raised their hands and gently patted his shoulders in silent support.

After a long while, He Yu slowly raised his head. His rimless glasses rested casually on the bridge of his nose, his black eyes icy. He tightened his grip around the whistle and shook his head.

“Keep analyzing.”

He never showed much grief.

But that did not mean his heart was as calm as he appeared on the surface.

The deaths of Cheng Zhao and Siya were like two enormous mountains that He Yu had carried on his {N•o•v•e•l•i•g•h•t} shoulders all this time.

They also meant that in this game against the hand behind the scenes, he had to win!

They were trapped within the rules, their lives held in someone else’s hands.

Zhen Xing and the others were only responsible for taking action, while He Yu, as the “brain,” bore the responsibility of the one making the moves.

He had received their trust.

So he had to be worthy of the trust they had paid for with their lives.

Every chess piece that died, every spray of blood, made the burden he carried even heavier.

But there would always be sacrifices on the road to breaking the rules.

He led those who remained forward over piles of white bones. Every step was like walking on the edge of a blade. The heavier the burden behind him became, the sharper the blade beneath his feet.

He would proceed cautiously, step by step, bearing pressure beyond anyone else’s imagination as he continued forward.

Ahead lay a bottomless abyss.

He exhausted everything he had to forge a thin steel wire across it.

They would cross that wire, traverse the abyss, and wait for the dawn to arrive.

<Top Talent Show> Production Team Office Building.

The building had been attacked, and Qiu Dao contacted the King.

The King himself was already overwhelmed and had no intention of personally stepping forward to withstand the fury of the fans.

Unable to get a response, Qiu Dao had completely given up as well.

With only one hair left on his head and his mouth covered in blisters, Qiu Dao spoke hoarsely. “It’s obvious that the hand behind the scenes interfered, but we don’t know who the hand behind the scenes is either.”

“You’re the person in charge of the production team, yet you didn’t notice a single abnormality?” someone sneered.

Qiu Dao smiled bitterly. “Of course I noticed abnormalities, but all of you can notice them too, can’t you? Noticing them doesn’t mean we can solve them. This has already escalated beyond anything I’m capable of handling...”

“Qiu Dao, we’re not asking you to find the hand behind the scenes. We’re asking you to be honest. What exactly do you know that ordinary citizens don’t?!”

Qiu Dao paused.

Then, under everyone’s furious gazes, he wore the dejected expression of someone who had completely given up.

“If you’re really that unhappy with me, then let me resign from <Top Talent Show>. You can deal with me however you want.”

—He desperately hoped they would agree.

He genuinely did not want anything to do with this fucking mess anymore.

Either way, he was going to die. Why bother exhausting himself mentally and physically only to die at the end?

Leaving now would be the cleanest solution.

If these people actually had that idea, he would sincerely thank them.

Unfortunately, the person leading them was not stupid. He sneered. “Dream on. If you leave behind a mess like this, who are we supposed to hand it over to? You’d better tell us everything you know. Otherwise—”

At that moment, someone hurried inside and shouted loudly, “District One leader An Xu is here!”

Qiu Dao breathed a long sigh of relief.

He instinctively wanted to touch his hair again but ultimately restrained himself.

An Xu strode inside. His expression was grave, and his voice carried both authority and solemnity—

“I understand everyone’s doubts and anger, but these emotions are useless right now. We still haven’t determined which faction the hand behind the scenes belongs to. We welcome all Federation citizens to provide useful information and help us uncover the truth.

“The hand behind the scenes concerns the future of the Federation. The King, the major powers, and we ourselves have already classified this as a Federation Special-Grade Crisis and activated Special-Grade Crisis Response Protocols.

“The King is leading the Federation’s major powers in investigating the hand behind the scenes. I will remain here and guard <Top Talent Show>, and guard the warriors inside!

“If any of you still have doubts, you may stay here with me and watch over the talent show and the production team. Technicians dispatched by Mechanical Planet and the other major planets have already arrived. We’ll work together and see whether we can discover any abnormalities and drag the hand behind the scenes into the light!”

After An Xu finished speaking, he looked earnestly at everyone.

His gaze was extraordinarily sincere, plainly telling them—

He stood with them.

He, too, was actively searching for a way to deal with the situation.

Everyone exchanged glances and gradually calmed down under An Xu’s reassurance.

The leaders discussed it among themselves. There really was no better solution. Even if they demolished this entire building, they would not be able to rescue He Yu and the others, nor could they bring Siya back to life.

—They accepted An Xu’s proposal.

An Xu let out a long breath.

And so, the building that had previously been sealed because of the fear of attacks was now packed with people.

They gathered around <Top Talent Show>’s largest control console, with An Xu and Qiu Dao standing at the very front.

Qiu Dao had already completely given up.

He did not even care whether An Xu had somewhere to sit. With his single remaining hair still clinging to his head, he simply sat down in a chair and quietly watched the livestream.

An Xu gave him a disdainful look but ultimately said nothing.

—They still needed to keep Qiu Dao alive.

Abier was communicating with countless technicians.

An Xu stared at the livestream, took a deep breath, and murmured softly, “If only we could communicate with He Yu...”

 Transfer Station.

Zhen Xing and the others all looked worriedly at He Yu.

He Yu, however, raised his head and looked into the empty space above, the beauty mark at the corner of his eye cold and striking.

Those Federation higher-ups outside, as long as they weren’t idiots, should also be thinking about communicating with him by now, right?

—But he could not rush.

—There was still one piece missing. It was not yet time.

The closer they came to the truth, the closer they came to the final slaughter, the calmer he had to remain.

One wrong move and the entire game would be lost.

He could not be impatient.

He had to wait patiently.

Everything he carried, Cheng Zhao’s blood and Siya’s blood, demanded that he proceed cautiously and plan every step.

Duan Yuchen and the others exchanged glances, each seeing the same worry in the others’ eyes.

Worry for He Yu.

Worry for the situation they were facing.

Tang Ke tugged at the corner of his mouth and spoke with difficulty. “So there’s a very high chance that a real mole is hiding among us?”

—Not an undercover player assigned by an instance.

A real mole.

—Perhaps the purpose for which they had entered this competition from the very beginning had been different from everyone else’s!

Gedai nodded with difficulty.

Yuan Ze smiled bitterly. “So we’ve still ended up in a situation where we suspect each other and can no longer remain united?”

Duan Yuchen’s expression was solemn. He shook his head. “The killer isn’t necessarily among us. Even if they are, until we know for certain, we absolutely cannot speculate about and suspect one another.”

Every situation they faced required them to remain united.

Even united, they might not make it through.

Under circumstances like these, if they started suspecting and guarding against one another as well, what way out would they possibly have?

Zhante nodded. “I agree. For now, let’s act as though this conjecture doesn’t exist. From now on, we should try to move together as much as possible. We’ll continue following He Yu’s arrangements and advance or retreat together.”

After hesitating for a moment, Eugene slowly nodded.

The others nodded as well.

But even so...

Their trust had already taken a blow.

Things could never completely return to how they had been before.

Wanrenzhan suddenly curled his lips and scoffed. “Oh, forget it. Without He Yu, how could we possibly have become a team in the first place? Even now, we trust He Yu. It’s not like we trust everyone else that much.”

He looked at Zhen Xing and Ling Buchen accusingly. “At the end of the <Health Bar> instance just now, you two were trying to kill me! That was way too fucking much! Heartless! Absolutely despicable!”

It had originally been a three-way fight.

Yet after exchanging only a few words, those two had joined forces against Wanrenzhan.

If Bo Jingshan had not made his move at the very end, Wanrenzhan would already have been gone.

—These two were simply outrageous!

He was obviously very strong too. Why hadn’t either of them teamed up with him to eliminate the other one?

Zhen Xing’s face was expressionless. “If you couldn’t beat us, then you could only die.”

Ling Buchen smiled faintly. “Strength speaks for itself. Even if we hadn’t teamed up, would you not have tried to kill us?”

Wanrenzhan ground his teeth in fury. “At least I was fighting alone!”

“Oh, give it a rest. That’s because no one wanted to cooperate with you.”

“You—”

...

Although they had started arguing, the atmosphere strangely relaxed.

The previously taut air became peaceful, giving their anxiety and tension a moment to breathe.

Eugene understood.

Zhen Xing and Ling Buchen were willing to entertain Wanrenzhan and argue with him because they wanted He Yu to relax a little.

He smiled helplessly and joined the battle. “Wanrenzhan, that’s what you get for being stupid.”

Several of them began talking over one another.

Qiong’s previously gloomy expression gradually relaxed.

He Yu raised a hand and pushed up his rimless glasses, shaking his head helplessly.

Zhante rubbed his chin, somewhat puzzled. “Speaking of which, the production team used to hate giving us time to discuss things. They’d start the next round immediately after one match ended. Why are they giving us so much time at the Transfer Station this time? They’re willing to let us discuss things now? Aren’t they afraid of exposing something?”

He Yu looked at him and smiled slightly. “It’s simple. Because the other side is setting up the board. Ordinary instances can no longer restrain us. The longer they make us wait, the more preparation time the hand behind the scenes has, and the next instance—might become even more interesting.”

Only the final two matches remained.

There was absolutely no way the hand behind the scenes could remain patient any longer.

Everyone: “???”

—Fuck, that was terrifying!!

Zhante rubbed his arms and was just about to speak when the system notification rang out—

[Semifinals, Second Half: 50 to 10 is about to begin. All contestants, please prepare. Teleportation will commence shortly.]

He Yu’s lips curved upward.

Without making a sound, he mouthed—

Here it comes.
